Do you or anyone else have a picture of this happening?

I just bought the HL61a750 at HHGregg. The picture appears uneven along the horizontal bottom of the TV (wider stripe on ESPN bottom line on the right than on the left).

I'm still within my 10 day window to return the TV if I'm not satisfied. Dumb question...should I return it or call in a claim on the warranty?

Also, I'm thinking about returning it anyway for the 67 inch model. Any thoughts on whether I should do that?

I agree it handles SD very good. I meant that it looks like crap compared to HD stuff. SD DVDs looks excellent as long as they were made before like 1990. Anything before that seems to look excessively grainy. I was referring to cable, MSNBC specifically.

I have no discernible tilting or bowing, but I haven't measured for it either. It is not visible from my viewing distance so I'll leave well enough alone. The question for you is how much 4:3 stuff do you watch, and how much does your issue bother you when you do watch it? For me, I would exchange it if it was visible at my regular viewing distance. But then, there is always the chance you could end up with something worse after the exchange, too.

Just wanted to thank everyone who answered my concerns about the upconverting abilities of the set, and just to clarify, I would rate the SD PG of my 67 as very good.

Well, of course an hour later curiosity got the best of me so I plugged it in and connected it via coax to Direct TV. I have a separate DTV receiver in the lower level where the tv will end up, but I also have one in the master bedroom that has a splitter that feeds a small tv in the kitchen. That's the one the 67" is hooked up to now.

When turning the set on I immediately noticed a very obvious band of sparklies about 4" in height that runs across the entire screen. It starts at the bottom and moves vertically to the top, then starts at the bottom again. It probably taked 6-8 seconds for it to go from bottom to top. Bare in mind that I haven't touched any of the settings what-so-ever. Do I have a problem tv or do you think it's likely that it's the fact that it's on a splitter. I will say that this band of sparklies doesn't show up on the 15" tube tv that is normally connected to this coax.

So what do you think? Ultimately, I'll probably have to wait til it gets to it's final resting place and is completely hooked up before I'll know anything for sure, but would like your opinions as to whether I got a bad set or not. Thanks.

I can only conclude that the splitter in the Direct TV coax was the cause of the rolling sparklies because as soon as I hooked the display up directly to the DTV box, all the picture issues went away. Just wanted to post this for the benefit of anyone who might be considering the HL67 Sammy. Now I'm just waiting for my Pioneer SC-07 to arrive so I can hook it, my Pioneer BDP-51fd blue ray player and the Sammy all togther by HDMI and I'll be in 'high def fat city'. Now if I can get the room finished in teh next couple weekends my wife will be happy and then I'll really be in fat city!

I could be mistaken, but it looks like your whole sd frame is tiled to the left some. Is the start of the SD picture the same distance on both sides at the top?

So decided on the 61 from vanns, they will throw in a Logitech Harmony 670 remote for 29 bucks, dont know much about anything with universal remotes. This a good deal. I see it going for 150$. Right now just need to run the cable box/dvr/and TV. Audio on the way not sure what yet along with a blue ray. This will run it all?

Thanks again

Yes. The Harmony 670 will run them all.

It's not clear from the photo whether the entire top of the SD image is on the screen or whether the tilt brings the top left down below the set frame.
It seems so from pics 2 and 3...

Though I get the entire SD image on the screen of my 50A650, it is also tilted/skewed a 1/2 inch, like yours, on the right side...
...1/4" to the left of mid-pic of a plumbed line at the top, and 1/4" to the right of mid-pic at the bottom of the plumbed line...I've considered calling Sammy on it, but for now just ignore it as everything else is nigh on perfect...incl. little of any bowing/tilting at the top (a bit at the bottom, probably related to the above tilt/skewed pic)...
Please let us know what you decide to do...I'll do the same...

The harmony will not run the PS3 with out a dongle connected to the USB port, due to the fact the PS3 is Bluetooth

yup, that's my issue although i would say not as severe as that, yours begins to taper almost immediately whereas mine starts about 2/3rd's of the way down it still ends up being about 3/8" or so from the top off. i'm assuming this is do to the weak frame/screen combo correct??

i guess i'm just puzzled as to why some have the issue and others dont, i mean the frame/screen can only go on a certain way when in production right? is it the torquing of the frame screws causing this perhaps??

so try disconnecting the hdmi, run the optical from the cable box to the receiver and see if the problem is still there.
The left side of the picture is almost dead on correct. It is the right side that tapers down, going from about 6' on the top to a little under 5 1/2" on the bottom.

It is very noticeable on the bottom of the DTV guide in both HD and SD. You can see where it tapered big time. Also on channels where there is a ticker.

Had the Sammy tech come last Saturday he played around with the tilt some. He used something from the service menu and a channel on. It had the green, red , blue lines around the frame and a red X across the screen. Then he used a grid. Tried for about an hour and was perplexed to say the least. He said something about the frame but everything is square on it when he checked.

Amazon is amazing. We called them about the problem ( we had the TV delivered on 9/12 and didn't set it up for about 2 weeks so we never checked anything - dumb on my part). After reading this thread and giving it a liitle time to settle was when we called Amazon. I told them I called Samsung for a repair call and they told me to call back after he came to see if I wanted an exchange. So now a new one is on its way.

I have the grid from one the posts on here to plug in and see when it gets here.

I love this TV . It is awesome and well worth it. Amazon has been awesome with all of this. I am sorry if it sounds like a advertisement.

Set the replacement up as soon as you get it and let us know how it goes.

What is your TVs date of manufacture? Mine is 5/08 with the 1004 firmware.

Might be reaching, but thinking it might be certain production runs.

That's a good point, but he did not list the PS3 as one of the items he wanted to control.

Never said he did. I was just trying to inform him if he goes with a PS3 as his blu-ray player (and IMO why wouldn't you)that the harmony would not work without a usb adapter

Something strange. CC had increased 61A750 from $1699 to $2099. A warping increase of $400 and $200 above the MSRP. Hot item?

that's the standard price CC has had the tv at for some time, it's thier weekly sale that had it at 1999 or under. Of course that weekly sale has been running almost nonstop for about 2 months now....

Seems like this would have something to do with the projection of the image itself. It's either something with the hardware or the software causing it, I can't see it being a frame issue if it's square in 3 of the corners. Make me wonder what controls the image size being projected software or hardware.

I'm more inclined to say it is probably damaged during the shipping process rather then certain production runs. Some dude(s) might accidentally or intentionally drop the package during the shipment transfer; or a truck ran over a pothole and jumped the package. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My 61A750 looks perfect to me with my naked eyes; though I cannot claim it is 100% perfect. However, I cannot discern from any imperfection whether it is ticker or 4:3 materials. Mine comes with 1006.1 firmware; manufactured on 06/30/2008 per serial# identification through registration process.

I picked up mine during the sale, with an additional 10% online coupon, walked out at $1664, after taxes, and CRV @$10.00(in California).

Repair shop to be out tomorrow to handle my bowing problem along the top, said they had to order 2 boards.
