2008 Samsung HL61A750 LED DLP owners thread and FAQ - Page 114

I remember looking at target for TV Stands prior to buying the one i have. I was looking for at least a 55" stand. That one is too small for the 67" (or 61") IMHO.
Brian, I only bring it up because the one floor model I looked at had the problem, and you could still see it 8 feet away! I understand if there is a fine line at 3 inches it doesn't matter.

This is the one I have. It occassionally drops to 250 online or in-store.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1165609791326

Put it together with this coupon. 10% off BB

http://a.slickdeals.net/attachment.p...7&d=1222150770

I have my 67" on it. The top shelf supports up to 300lbs and the other 2 support 150 and 100 I believe. Very sturdy. Not as much wire management as I'd like but it's still better than nothing.

Thanks for the responses guys. Thanks for the honest responses and the links.

I know that I should stop being such a tightwad about these things, but currently I'm a student (ie have expenses) and while I did earn decent cash over the summer, I do not have a income stream currently, and as such, I have to stick to a pretty strict budget. Now obviously I've budgeted some of that for toys , but spending more money on a here on a stand means that I specifically will have less money for speakers, for example. I will be earning money once I graduate in the spring (already have an offer) but till then I'm on my own.

Amuzeme--assuming I could fit a receiver on one shelf, a center on another, I think I would have enough room for everything; my roommate runs a Myth box that will go by it's side and thus frees up some space.

Tekademic: How wide is that stank? Looks like it might be too narrow for a 61" model..

BiggieStuff: nice find, looks pretty good and aint much more than the rest if you can pull off the coupon (I've had spotty success with those, myself). I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

I look forward to any future suggestions/feedback, and will continue to resist the urge just buy cinder blocks, mdf, and black spray paint .

the coupon definitely works. I've used it. It says in the coupon itself you can use it on home theater furniture. It's a valid coupon to. YOu get it when you go to the USPS and get a mover's package at the post office or do it online. I had a 10 dollar GC to make the deal a bit sweeter though. Came out to 228 total. Just have to hope the price drops down a bit further. That stand went for 199 at last year's black friday.

Hey guys...just ordered my 61A750 on Sunday, and it looks like it should arrive on Thursday...fingers crossed. I'm upgrading from a Toshiba 57HX83, which is a RPTV.

For those of you looking/price shopping, I was able to pick mine up from www.hometheaterstore.com, based out of Houston. I paid $1469 shipped, but it looks like they just raised the price to $1599...as of yesterday, Crutchfield had them for $1799 but were including a free Bell'O stand, and they had a scratch and dent for $1529 (with the stand, too). Crutchfield is also offering 18 months no payments/no interest...so if you want to give it a shot, their scratch and dent with the free stand and financing is probably the best deal going.

I'll post when I get my tv and test it out. I have a Dish ViP622 routed through a Yamaha HTR-5990 receiver to handle the conversion of everything to HDMI.

I've pretty much decided on getting this, but I'm gonna be waiting just a little while before I pick it up; I'm hoping that there'll be a price drop in the next few weeks due to the economy, or around black friday. But what I realized is that it just wouldn't do that have the tv delivered with no stand for it to sit on!

Can you guys give me some recommendations to work off of? Honestly, it doesn't have to look great, just fit a center speaker and have some decent airflow (I'm taking stability as a given). My biggest factor is the price; I'd ideally like to spend as little as possible. So far, my research has yielded these results, but I would love to hear any other ideas!

Costco

Sam's club

Ikea

Target/Amazon

I'm sure that a few of these are inappropriate for the TV; please feel free to point out which and why.

Thanks in advance!

I bought this one Shaker TV Stand at Target. It's just wide enough for the entire stand, can handle 175lbs. Has room for a center channel if needed. For me, I've already got a media center that encases everything, and my center channel speaker is mounted to the overhead section of it. Just would have been nice to be able to have it in matching light oak, but I needed something that worked, and was not going to cost me a lot more money. And now I see it is on sale!

I almost fall off the chair laughing. Good one! If anyone does this, it is beyond extreme fanatic. One can take any objects exist in this world, if one determines to find a problem they will find the problem.

Here's the stand I bought from BB for my HL61A750:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1138085296252

Its well made, looks great with the TV, and rock solid. I didn't install the middle shelf and that left plenty of room for my large Klipsch center speaker. The rest of the gear is in another rack off to the side. There's no sort of backpanel, so you may need some wire ties to organize the cords (although it could be as simple as one hdmi cable and the power cord, depending on your set-up).

Check out the FAQ, a user has provided a nice dimensional drawing that should help you.

Finally placed my 2nd order for the 61A750 on Saturday night via Big River. Shipped on Monday. Priced dropped by $40 last night. The level of service is impressive as they are refunding the difference.

Looking forward to delivery.

I hear ya - I'm in same boat but I'm on other end of the game.....a Senior on limited income. I shop for a good used one daily on Craigslist and have went to Home Depot to try to figure out what to use and how much it would cost to put something together that would not look all that bad....it's dark where in my LR anyway.

PS - - - http://www.thehighdefinitionstore.com/ This place has the 61A750 + Samsung 61" Stand + FREE Shipping for $15xx.

Thanks again for the continuing responses!

cfilkins--good prices on both sites, especially with that stand....Tempting!

Lee--good and cheap, but I don't think I could fit everything.

hawkster--I was looking at that myself, good to hear that it's sturdy.

cyberized--Glad that I'm not the only one in the boat; misery loves company . The way I see it, people will be so amazed at the TV itself they won't look at the stand, right? Right?

Between the time I read your post and responding I would have bought the set from your link if I could find the deal you mentioned, but while the shipping is indeed free on both items, the combined cost is $1945 . Is there a link you can provide to the deal? Thanks!

Hey guys,

Soon to be owner here. Samsung has been gracious and has offered to replace my ailling HLS5679W with the HL61A750. I was very excited at first because of the larger screen, better blacks, and most of the same functionality. Now I'm leary. After reviewing the bulk of this thread I have real concerns about the geometry and convergience issues. As I'm dealing with the manufacturer, I really hope the set I recieve does not have to be returned. Is there a way to poll how many of the owners here have experienced these problems? I'm not savvy like most of you here, but when my set arrives I'll post some of my impressions.

I recommend you relax and smile at the good fortune that Samsung will soon be delivering to you. I've had this HDTV for several months; soon after it first hit the market. The only adjustment I've made, since taking it out of the box, is to slightly push on the upper right corner of the set 1 time to adjust a minor tilt issue -- THAT's IT! Last night I smiled while watching Monday Night Football in awesome HD. For me it's perfect, and I'm confident you'll love it too!

Three things to ease your concerns:

-Bear in mind that if people are happy with a product, they won't usually tell that many people, but if they're unhappy with something, they will tell a lot more people about it, and are more likely to complain online about it. I'm willing to bet that the # of complaints online are not representative of the actual % of consumers that have had problems with this TV.

-Also bear in mind that the people on avsforum are here because they are REALLY into their home theater stuff, and thus also likely to be perfectionists about their equipment, and thus a lot more picky about small problems that most people wouldn't even notice.

-Last, even if your TV has a slight problem, it's likely you would never even notice it during regular use. Only when you load up a test image and actively search for tiny flaws would you see them. My set has a very slight uphill slant to the right, but I couldn't detect it until I really looked for it with a grid pattern on the screen, and even though I know it's there now, I STILL cannot see it while I'm playing games or watching movies. I don't sit and watch test patterns, I watch games and movies, and it looks perfect to me while doing those things, and that's what matters IMO.

Nicodimus22: Sage words to live by. I didn't notice the convergence "problem" until weeks after I bought mine--which is to say I cannot see it from 7 or 8 feet away.

Post some more pictures of content on this TV. I am debating between this TV in 67" and a 73" Mistu Diamond Series TV.

If someone got one and the issue was that bad, an exchange would certainly be in order, but people flat out look for problems on this set. There is a fine line between being concerned about thourough, and being obsessive.

I made a stand for my HL61A750 from a kit from Lowe's. They sell shelfs that connect using steel supports. The whole thing cost less than $50. I needed something that would fit inside an entertainment amour that I had and be around 18 inches tall and it is 4 feet wide.

Got my TV yesterday and WOW. I love it I'm so glad I research all this and didnt just go buy a TV. My neighbor has a 42" LCD that he paid like 1900 or something for. Needless to say he is pissed. He helped me get it in the house and after I got it set up he said the picture might be better than his. And its 21" bigger. I love it and am still tweaking it a bit. Quentins settings are pretty close for me, I think anyway. I do have to go to standard during the day but as soon as it gets dark I can switch to movie and its great
I am also glad I got the 61" and not the 56" Whoever said "decide what size you want and then go up a size" "you have never heard anyone complain about there TV beeing to small" THANKS thats very good advice and the 61" is perfect in the room.

Nice deal for it to come with the stand, but the reviews for the Samsung stand turned me off from it. It's an adjustable stand, and 61" is the upper limit. The glass shelves are narrow enough for the 51" model, and it'll leave quite a bit of space between the edge of the glass and the supports On top of that, people have said it wasn't the most stable of stands they've ever had, either.

I got bluray player last night, connected via hdmi. But now the film mode is grayed out. The tv is no longer auto switch to 'movie' mode. I have to switch manually, what a pain.

Oh I notice a red convergence (bleeding) on the 4:3 bar when using bluray via hdmi. It's so bad that I get bothered by it. My dvd player connected via components doesn't have this issue. I wonder for people who have convergence issues, their video sources are connected via hdmi?

Obviously, each of us will have an opinion on what we think is 'acceptable' performance of a TV (or anything else we buy). If you spend around $2k for a piece of gear, it should have as little flaws as possible. If there was some way for the average consumer to fix convergence on their own, like you could on most CRT RPTV's, it would be a big help. Unfortunately, we cannot.

Personally, I love the picture quality of this set, but as I've pointed out earlier, my convergence and bowing is evident even back at the 14ft seating area. The TV is still in the shop, and the light engine did not resolve the issue. The techs are now suspecting the mirror. I'm hoping to hear from them today.

So, meanwhile, I'm still able to use my 57" Hitachi CRT HDTV, so I am not without a means to watch anything.

Maybe Samsung should start building these in the USA. I know we have enough workforce to handle it.

Can you give us a picture, or a link to it at the Lowe's website? Sounds interesting.

It's not possible to play Blu-ray discs in 4:3 as far as I know, since their native resolution is 1.85:1 to 2.40:1. Are you sure it wasn't a full screen DVD?

I've had my unit since August and it's been doing the buzzing after about the first month. It only does it in bright scenes and it's fairly loud. It's actually gotten a little bit louder and has become unbearable. I called Samsung today and the girl started searching her articles tried to tell me it was the cooling fan, but I insisted it was not based on the other reports on this forum. She agreed to schedule maintenance but added that if "there is no mechanical defect found, I will be responsible for charges". Thanks, Samsung.
