Thanks

I know what you are saying. I own a 67", but I assume since the thread is named after the 61" that everyone owns a 61", but I know that is not true.

It seems that the 61" and 67" should have just been combined, but I am sure there are reasons they were not.

Ok, I have searched through this thread and online to the best of my ability and have yet to find a concrete answer. Does operating the service menu, or more importantly screwing something up in the service menu, void the warranty? I am sorry if I missed this info in this thread.

Since I rec'vd my 67" a few weeks ago, I have been following both the 61" and the 67" threads. I implemented Lee's settings in the SM the other night and the picture quality is MUCH better. The colors look great. I am not a videophile, but I could really tell the difference. Just wanted to say thanks, and that the settings worked great on my T.V. even though it was the larger model. Many of the settings in the SM were very close to Lee's posted settings as well. If you are concerned about going into the SM and using the settings, don't be. I followed Lee's post, and it wasn't that difficult. The info on this site is amazing.

Funny thing is I am running basic cable (no HD BOX OR CABLE BOX) and the picture on some channels look good really good.

The real icing on the cake was when I connected the PS3 using only S-VIDEO and the picture looks phenomenal.

You guys are probably wondering why I don’t have HDMI cables. Ordered them from monoprice and they haven’t arrived yet.

Also the HD TV cable service being offered in my area is not worth the price there asking for. Especially when they can’t guarantee a full 720p or 1080i resolution; even with the basic 19 HD channel bundle being offered by them.

Quick question sorry if this sounds dumm: the maximum resolution that s-video can push out is 480p or can it go higher?

I have this same spot on my screen, but its on the lower middle. You can't even see it at a certain viewing level. I have schedule repair from Samsung so they can fix this and my convergence issues. Man I wish we had a tech in this thread that could give us step by steps on fixing convergence with these sets.

Also, the first repair vendor that Samsung contacted had a 8 hour M-F repair window. I told they need to find someone because I'm not using a vacation day for a TV repair. Guess what, I'm still waiting to her back from Samsung. I've got to follow up today

Or walk through, step by step(very detailed)

I'd recommended buying the service manual. It's not incredibly detailed but it does list out everything from the service menu and has comments for some options. It will also get you more familiar with the T.V. itself. I bought it over the weekend from www.justmanuals.com for ~10 dollars.

I was waiting to see about my exchange process before I tried to fix the convergence myself (some people have said a ring focus adjustment is what usually does the trick). I got an e-mail today and they offered me an LN52A550 Hopefully the focus adjustment works.

No need to buy it. I have it in a pdf file and it can be emailed to whomever.

I don't really knows what the CCA does...but if its off...you lose control of the basic adjustments eg. LED Control, Color Temp...etc
But it defautls to something...and it does look pretty good...except alittle bright.

There is no "concrete" answer. The question has been asked many times. For various reasons, the concensus is that just entering the service menu will not invalidate the warranty but a service call to fix something you "broke" by entering the service menu is not covered in the warranty.

I have not seen any written documentation of Samsung's policy in regard to the service menu. If you call tech support and ask the question directly, you will likely receive a response that it will invalidate your warranty. The experienced folks around here believe that's just an easy answer for tech support and is not enforceable. Think about it -- a professional calibration would invalidate the warranty! I have not seen a post where someone has had a warranty invalidated due to entering the service menu. Regrettably, can't get any more "concrete" than that. FWIW

The CCA is a CMS(Color Management System). The idea is to be able to take a set of readings of white and the primary colors, enter them into the CCA, and let it calculate out the levels of the primary and secondary colors. On these Samsungs, the closer you get the CMS set, the less adjustments have to be made to the grayscale.

It should normally always be set ON.

What are people finding for prices and availability for the 61A750?
Lee Baily, you are a genius GOD!!

Mama Mia had a too much orange cast to the skin tones and too much cyan in the sky and water and making the movie colors look artificial...So I tried your SM tweaks for kicks (writing down the original settings of course)

Now .....Wow! all natural!! like literally looking through a window !!!!!!and like the other poster said, the golds and yellows are now noticeable - and beautiful

I accidentally edited with CCA on rather than off as you suggested, but then toggled it ...I take it that it did it's job after the toggle.

I also did all that on HDMI-2 I suppose I have to toggle through the other inputs and re-enter them for use with those.

anyway thanks a bunch..these settings are just about perfect regarding shadow detail and colors..blacks are a little lighter than before..but otherwise a far more realistic movie experience than before.

Looks like a reflection from inside the TV shining a baseball on the screen, a few people have swapped out their TVs cause of it, some people think it's dust, but the prep guide leads me to believe that it's normal and refers to it as an oval.

I'm surprised more people have mentioned that top bar reflection issue more than this spot.

My 67 has the top-bar reflection, but it doesn't bother me at all. I have not noticed the baseball reflection issue, but then again, I have not been looking got it either.

Are you suffering from screen-size envy?

Mike_pro's first post on page one is: Samsung 61" HL61A750 and 67" HL67A750 LED DLP Owners thread/FAQ

I'm a 67a750 owner, and I've been "living" here since a few months before I took ownership last fall. This forum rocks. I even lost my Service Menu virginity today (thanks to Lee's post). While Lee seems to have the spotlight currently (and deservedly so), Mike_pro really created a great home for Sammy LED DLP owners.

I ordered the 61" on a wim after reading all the great revs. It will be here tomorrow. I went into best buy tonight and saw it for the first time with my wife. I was sad to see how dark it looked next to the lcd and plasmas. Now my wife is pissed cause i sold our 47" philips pfl475030 to get this and it doesnt seem like an upgrade. Please reassure me i made a good move. Tell me i can convince her this tv is everything i read it to be.

For a start, you can try my settings in the user and service menu. The post is in my sig below.

Your wife appears to be suffering from Demo-mode-popitis. There have been several intermittent posts about this in this forum. Don't worry, it's going to rock. Just follow the recommended user settings. Maybe wait on any service menu settings until all seems well and you are comfortable.

OTA HD: Rocks!
HDMI Blu-Ray: Rocks!
PS3 Games via HDMI: Rocks!

Thanks for the replies guys. (Hey I was a poet and didn't know it. . . no? ok). But seriously. I'm just really looking forward to the size upgrade and I think I've made a good choice, especially at a great price (1220). I'm sure a lot of what I ponder is answered in this thread, however it's very hard to find the time to read through 300+ pages of information.

Now. . . are the settings I should use in your sig Lee? Can you all direct link me to everything I should do upon setup?

Thanks! This forum rocks!

Alright folks ... please help out a novice here. I am going to venture into changing the Service Menu Settings as per Lee's post. Here's what I plan to do.

1) Watch my cable feed on HDMI2
2) Turn OFF the TV using the remote
3) Get into the Service Menu following instructions on first page
4) Note down all the settings that is on there
5) Change the settings as per Lee's post
6) Hit Menu button to get out of the Service Menu
7) Turn OFF the TV
8) Turn it back ON again and adjust the recommended settings for Movie Mode on HDMI2
9) Sit back and enjoy the awesome picture

10) Switch input to HDMI1 (Sony Blue-Ray)
11) Turn OFF TV again
12) Go into Service Menu and tweak it now for HDMI1 as above

Please let me know if I am doing this in the right sequence.

Thanks,
fljoe

I've been watching my TV in awe for the past few months, but I just have one little niggle that persists.

I have the following:
HL61A750
PS3
DirecTV HR21-100 receiver (no DVR)

I've setup the TV to the options on page one, specifically for the PS3 and such.

I've extrapolated that to include the DirecTV receiver, and normally use "Just Scan" for normal viewing.

Normally, everything is great, particularly on the HD channels, but I don't have the major stations (Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS) in HD, just normal. Now, when a show (like 24) is shown in widescreen format, "Just Scan" stretches the picture horizontally (like 16:9 does), but not vertically, resulting in black bars on top and bottom. Watching it in 4:3, I have bars all the way around. Attempting to use "Wide Fit" vertically fills the screen, but it also stretches it horizontally, cutting off parts of the picture.

Is there any way I can tell the TV that it's in 4:3 mode and stretch horizontally and vertically at the same time? So I fill the screen, even though it's not HD?

PS, the TV is awesome in every other way.

Besides, writing all the changes down on paper. You can also take pictures with your digital camera. Just in case you loose your notes. That's what I did with my plasma before I messed around in the SM. I will be trying lee's settings out tonight.

I'd appreciate if you could post your thoughts on my geometry. I notice the distortion even with 16:9 programming. Is geometry like this typical, or is mine any worse than the average HL61A750? Thanks.
