2008 Samsung HL61A750 LED DLP owners thread and FAQ - Page 320

I hope I'm not violating the forum rules but I know that many of us are looking for good deals on the Samsung HLXX750a.

The Modia clearance center in Houston at 6808 Hornwood Dr. (off Hwy 59 feeder between Bellaire & Hilcroft) has the 61" for $1,119 and the 67" for $1,799. The store is open from 10 to 6 today and the phone number is 713-772-6500.

I'm not 100% sure that these are the 750a models. The only description is that they are new, full 1080p, and DLP.

I haven't gotten anything from Modia and I'm not affiliated with Modia in any way. I just saw their ad in today's (02/28/09) Houston Chronicle.

My family really loves the 61" model we just got. If I could afford it, I'd pick up the 67" model for viewing programs and use the 61" model primarily for gaming.

Looks like the end is upon us for these XXA750 models, 6th Ave is also clearing out their 67" models (from an email I received this morning).

I'm not going down the price talk route, but more of a purchasing experience story; I inquired upon how much stock HH Gregg had in inventory before I made my 61 purchase three days ago, not wanting to get stuck with bowing or geometry issues... plenty of the 61's and 67's according to the sales guy (im not quite exactly sure what 'plenty' equates to in today's terms), but selling the Sammy's at a faster clip than the larger and DC4 equipped Mitsu's lined up facing the Sammy's lol... terrible display of all the DLP's in general, but oh well.

I happen to live in Indianapolis, about a couple of miles from their national HQ store where I purchased the set and they dispatch quite a bit of their stock from. They are very flexible on pricing if u come equipped with research in hand (theyll check your print outs or claims, authorized dealers only and they look at shipping, including amazon pricing+ship) and being prepared to pay sales tax. Very friendly and pleasing experience when dealing w/ someone who knew the in's and out's and wasn't afraid to mention the off angle viewing compared to my currently boxed up and headed to the parents LN46A650.

As I mentioned before...was quite amazed and pleased with the DLP out of the box , the Sammy LCD took some def tweaking before becoming acceptable for SD or HD pics to my eyes ... once again, cheers to Samsung and the fellow members.owners of A750's here on AVS for helping me get the most out of this set (w/o prof calib)... a shame the dlp production by sammy ends here.

I purchased mine from the same location last August.

Has anyone purchased one from www.amazon.com (direct from amazon.com not a reseller listing on amazon) in the last few weeks? I've been checking every few days and I don't believe amazon has stocked either of the A750 models in few weeks.... Not a good sign.

1439 = MCDXXXIX

Will CC let you inspect the TV before you bring it home..

Due to the fact there's 'No returns'

Or is the deal for a 'Sealed box sale'

I've seen both of them stocked most of the time, but sometimes amazon.com isn't the low price so they show somewhere else (vann's, 6th avenue, etc.). They showed the 61" (but not the 67") in stock at amazon.com a few minutes ago; a few days ago the reverse was true.

I think the whole supply chain runs very lean nowadays, so it's not like there's some stash of 50,000 TVs they have to sell. The ones being sold today were assembled in Mexico within the last few weeks, and they may keep making them as long as there is a reasonable level of demand (assuming that basic parts like the DMD and LEDs remain available also).

Just received my HL67A750 form amazon (not a reseller) this morning.

I saw one in stock one week ago and I pulled the trigger.

The CEVA guys were great, quick and helpful.

So far, the unit is perfect. No bowing, no buzz...
Great picture even if my current living room isn't the best place for it.
In a couple of months it should go in my new media room.

Do you know if there any physical damage, you can't return it and it's not covered by manufacturer warranty ??

you're going to drive up to boston to pick it up?

I called Samsung direct and was told they will keep making the 67 as long as the demand is there which it is. THDS advertises 7 to 10 day service which means they keep reordering them. I was told by a local store they can order also when they checked with Samsung.

to the guru's of this thread

i've done lee's tweaks but would like to notch down blue just a hair (maybe i should just let my viewing adjust/adapt for a week and hold off, but would still like to know) ... is there a simple way to accomplish this w/o going into the system menu ? I see the Green/Red Tint adjust but nothing as clear cut as what my lcd had in terms of blue tweaking inside of the normal menu.

Thanks in advance

If it is an overall blue tint, then adjust the White Balance in the user menus to the left, toward red.

Which set do you have, the 61" or the 67". The 67" does not respond to the settings like the 61" set does, that's why I'm asking.

Amazon has these in stock (sold and shipped by Amazon). You have to look to the right for other sellers and Amazon is listed there...I believe they are not the primary seller listed because Electronic Expo is cheaper including the shipping but I would rather buy mine from Amazon directly since I have never had one problem with a return or price adjustment from them. I just ordered my replacement set from Amazon yesterday...Samsung is buying my 61" back because they don't have any stock to replace the set.

I have the 61" ... and not to get on the praising lee soapbox once again, but thanks for your website link in your sig... I always enjoy great tutorial, breakdowns that I can refer friends, family, associates to instead of having to give some border-line geeky spiel/speech about audio/home theater setup and facing mostly blank stares or falling upon deaf ears.

I just applied your settings as well to my new 67" (purchased this week as well) and wow - tremendous improvement! Is there anything specific to change in the 67" vs. the 61"?

Thanks,

Jeff

Thanks to EVERYONE on this thread and AVSforum for hosting such a wonderful arsenal of info.

Got mine yesterday. After calling THDS and being told there would be a 3 week wait, possibly longer, for the 67", I went to Circuit City and low and behold, they had one for $1430 out the door.

I walked in, shoo'd the human flies away from that 67" pile I was about to examine and commenced to looking it over. I left my fine-tooth-comb at home and the lighting there was quite lacking, but I was mainly concerned with cracks, scratches and physical damage. The picture looked great (hooked her up for a minute) so I bagged it. No remote, so a stop by Sam's Club yeided me a new HDMI cable and a Harmony 659 remote.

Being tapped out of $$$$$, we were stressing about a stand. I hit every local shop looking for something to 'tide us over' until we got the cash to get a more elaborate stand, but after seeing the end-results of our alleged temporary fix, we think we're going to stay with what we got.

I'm not very steeped in forum posting knowledge, but I'll attempt to post some pictures in this post. Bear with me if I screw up.

Now, I'm off to do some firmware updates and do a little adjusting from the factory settings.

***** Do I NEED to buy a stock remote to do in-depth adjustments??? *****

Bought 3 TV Carts (picture below) from Wal-Mart for $16 each ($48 for those that have been awake TOO long). Built them, set them flush and level then screwed them together near where the shelf-pegs go. Works great and is quite sturdy.

(need to clean my lens or whatever.. I hardly use my dig camera if you can't tell).

Which settings? All of them? I'm still a little gun-shy about all of this, especially since I don't have the stock remote. All I have is the Harmony 659, which I'm still learning. I can get the stock remote for around $50ish but if I don't need it, I'd rather not drop the loot on it.

(please advise)

Nice job on the stand! Even cheaper than my LACK.

You should be able to do everything you need to with your Harmony. I use an 880, and I haven't even put the batteries in my Samsung remote yet...

Have you tried getting into the service menu with the Harmony? Seems like you might need/want the stock remote for that.

Hello guys, I am having a problem getting Samsung to honor my warranty, I had this set delivered to my home brand new on Nov 28th. I immediately noticed 2 dark spots on the screen, one the size of a tennis ball and they would only be noticeable during dark scenes or dark eerie video games. I contacted Samsung, and they sent a local repiar guy our on Dec 19th. He saw what I was pointing out, but could not diagnose it in my home. They took the set to the shop, where it has been to this day..... I was contacted by the shop and told it was fixed. I stopped by the shop to check the set out and it was not fixed, I pulled up a dark scene and there were the two dark spots. The guy had the audacity to say "Well, this is a TV and you're trying to hook xboxes and things like that into it". I was polite and said that the xbox had nothing to do with it, it had the same issues while watching tv at night or a dark scene. I went home and called Samsung, and when the rep saw how long it had been he scheduled an exchange. I called this past monday to see when to expect the new set...and they had no record I was authorized and exchange, they only had a confirmation the set had been repaired. I was obviously fired up at this news. The person only offered to submit my file for manegerial review, and I've yet to hear back. I went to the shop and asked why they still have my completed repair on file if they could clearly see my set had the issue it originally had. The answer I got was "Samsung asks us to cerify it works under normal operating conditions". I feel that is your set has 2 large grey spots in the viewing area while wathcing tv after dark or wathcing dark/black scenes, that would be an abnormal occurance during normal viewing. I'd like to know if anyone has any input for me. I am going to the repair shop monday to take pictures of the issue and force them to document seeing it.

I got an 61a750 recently as my last DLP screwed up and Samsung upgraded me a replacement.

I've only had the TV a month and recently it's started doing some odd things. I have the HD cable box connected via HDMI and sometimes the screen will go black and then pop back up. The info box pops up for the TV which leads me to believe that the signal failed for some reason.

Anyone seen something like this?

I just looked again and Amazon does not have any of the 61" or 67" units in stock...they are all from affliated re-sellers.
I am inclined to believe that Amazon has sold out of this TV in both sizes and will not be getting anymore due to the end of production.
