2. Had a LFE problem until firmware 1.6. Major problem that was finally fixed and impacted most discs.
3. Slower disc access. Minor, but still annoying compared to the 1500

There is no perfect player, but between the BD-30 and the 1500 I think the 1500 is clearly superior. Panasonic does have a stellar reputation with firmware updates while Samsung leaves much to be desired in that regard.

It looks like the only player without glitches from these newly released models is the Philips which is 1.1 and not upgradable to 2.0--has no USB. I wonder if there are enough users to really judge that this player is glitch free and doesn't have other things such as an LFE issue.

I thought this would be an easy Father's day decision

Welcome to the bleeding edge.

Just got a 1500 last night and so far so good. Movies look better then they did on my BD30 (just personal opinion). No problems so far watching about 7 movies (Enchanted, Sunshine, Ice Age 1 and 2, Ratatouille, FF, FFROSS) with my Onkyo 606.

No loading issues, player is pretty fast as previously stated
No Audio drops bitstreaming in either mode

One thing I noticed others saying is the player has no way for airflow underneath, but I want to report my 1500 has 4 rubber pads underneath, giving me more clearance than my BD30 or even my HD-DVD players have. I watched 2 movies FF FFROSS back to back, no heat build up, just warm like most DVD players get. I have my 1500 on a glass shelf by itself (like all my other components) in my HT setup.

Anyways, I'm liking what I have seen so far, I think it was a good move for me to take the plunge on the 1500 to get 2.0 features down the road. (Gosh, I hope samsung comes through)

Good luck!

Good idea I will check tonight at BB if they one hooked up, and check that noise it is not really bothering me but I could get something quiter with the same unit I will take it.

I did not realized that the heat they are talking is at the bottom of the unit which I stated I don't have problem, but I will check the bottom later.

Goodluck for those who just purchased the 1500, please keep your findings or share your thoughts here in this thread. Thanks

It is said that these people often read from a book or do not listen. They have no clue about what you are talking about. I have put these CS people on the spot many times and I have a few even disconnect me on purpose. The best place to
find information is on the fourm. Everyone with issues should also call CS and ask for a case number. The reason to put things on record is that if you have the issue in the future and your warranty runs out you can claim that they never fixed the issue. I also believe that with a case number they must refer the problem up the ladder. I am still wondering if the drop out issues with this player are being caused by the disks themselves. I will do more testing myself.

Look soon for a reenactment of the call to be done as part of my Zero Budget series. This is gonna be good. Doing it Shatner style.

Using the Antec laptop cooler hooked up to the USB port there is a big difference in cooling. Without it the unit was getting warm after 3/4 of the movie. Now it stays cool.
This could be a good tweak for people who have space issues in cabinets.

For those still looking for the 1500, I just got an email from Circuit City saying that they have them back in stock.

AdmiralJoker, please post the link to your reenactment when you do it.

When i got home last night i noticed that i had the notice in my email and wasted no time in snapping one up myself. If anyone else has been looking for one, i wouldn't waste any time ordering from CC because i don't think the 1500's will be in stock very long.I was just about to give up and buy one of the new Mag's from Walmart but thank fully decided to wait a few days.

Moral of the story? 48 hours of patience pays off, but waiting too long can cost the bird the worm.

Does CC have the info wrong about the 1500? CC states that it can play jpeg and mp3 encoded discs, but I thought it couldn't. It also states it has a media card slot. I know it has a USB.

So last night after about 2 hours of use, I checked the bottom of my player and it was pretty hot, and I don't think more ventilation would have helped with this. It makes me wonder if maybe there's a heatsink internally that came loose, and maybe that's why some folks are getting this heat and some aren't. Anybody take their unit apart? Anyone exchange it and not have "excessive" heat?

So, it appears to be either A)An issues that has to do with the DTS decoding with the player or

I also got audio drop at the same spot !!

Why A? given that the player doesn't decode DTS-HD MA.
Not only does the bottom of the player get hot, but since heat rises, the disk itself, which is toward the top of the unit, gets warm as toast as well.

The unit does need good air flow as others have stated because there is no fan in the unit. I have tried the Antec laptop cooler as I already posted and it works great. They often put it on sale for a very low price. It is powered by the USB port on the 1500.

The unit might get hot to the touch, but I dont see a correlation between people having audio drops (usually the same movies and in the case of Rambo repeatable in the same spot) with the 1500 and heat issues.

It sounds like there might be a firmware update needed in the case of a few discs. Now if people start reporting drops across a wide variety of discs (which I dont think is the case), then maybe heat would be more of a concern?

No problems either with over 10 discs watched although I think Rambo will be a problem because it seems to have an audio drop for most people at the same spot.

+1 No audio drops for the 12-15 blu-rays I've watched on it.

My "drops" haven't been strictly audio. The first time it happens, it appears like a layer change on a DVD, but it seems like a problem when I get another in a short period following the first.

I acknowledge that heat may not be causing any of the audio drops - I'm going to do some experimenting. However, the level of heat building in my 1500 cannot possibly be heathly for the player or discs. When I pull a disc out, it's extremely hot to the touch. I need to better ventilate it just for longevity, if for no other reason.

Dave

Sounds like a defective unit to me. I dont think anyone else is reporting this issue.

Andrew, I know you have an Onkyo receiver. Have you had to make any lip sync adjustments with this player? I had a little hiccup last night with mine. I have never had to mess with that adjustment but maybe I should. I'm not ready to blame it on the player until I check out the Onkyo first. Pausing and restarting the disc seemed to improve things though.

I have an Onkyo 805. No lip synch problem that I have noticed although I had that problem with my HD DVD player and BD-30. Not sure the cause, but generally a pause should fix it.

I have an Onkyo 875, and Battle of Britain has a lipsync problem.

Strange, they claim this movie isn't available until June 3, but I rented it last week from Blockbuster.

Well, that explains the lip sync problems. You're playing it before it's available to be played. That's bound to get things out of sync.

If you are experiencing audio or video drops please also describe how your unit is connected. Are you using HDMI and how are you outputing the audio?

Hope someone can help me out I picked up the BD-p1500 (waiting on the new Pioneer 05fd and loved my 1400 which is now in my bedroom)today and when running Golden compass(only movie I have tried) I get no words (when the people talk in the movie) in Bitstream (audiophile) mode just background sound. Which is VERY high volume. I have it hooked up to a Denon 5308CI if I set it to Bitsream re-encode it works fine but gives me DTS surround mode not HD

Any help what I may be doing wrong here?

Thanks in advance

Have you bitstreamed audio before the 1500? Maybe you need to select a special menu item in the Denon? If not, I would power off the player and your receiver. Unplug the HDMI cable and then restart. I would imagine this would fix the problem. It could be a bad HDMI cable. I would also try another disc if that doesnt fix the problem.

Good luck!

Agreed and also let us know if it is random or repeatable (time as well) if possible!
