I agree. Samsung should not take the heat for a disc authoring issue. Since the movie plays on my PS3 I am content with waiting for a firmware update for now. If Fox does have replacement discs I may go that route since my PS3 could die and then I would be stuck with a movie that does not play on my player, or waiting for a firmware update that may never come. And at some point Samsung may put their foot down and force the studios to address the issue (like the CE's do with DVD).

That means you can decode internally and pass via HDMI to a receiver that may not decode internally, or you can decode internally if you prefer not to bitstream.

Samsung seems to have stepped up lately..

When this thing becomes a reality do we need to set our sammy 1500 audio to PCM? should be right?

I was watching U571 the other day and everytime I started the movie it had a "Box" icon in the upper left hand corner. I went through the menus and didn't see an option to shut it off, and checked to make sure nothing was selected. It eventually goes away but I don't now how it does. I am not at home but I am pretty sure it says "box" I might be wrong... Anyone else have this happen. I don't think it is a problem just need to learn the function to turn it off. I am using my Harmony One which is still programmed to my 1400 so I don't have all the options on it yet but I can roll through the players menus no problem.

If you want the Samsung to decode the codecs and send to your receiver, yes. If you would prefer to bitstream, you can still do that. If you are sombody that has an HDMI receiver, but not one that supports HDMI 1.3 and can decode all the lossless codecs, you can now get DTS-HD-MA and enjoy 100% of the lossless tracks.

Also, if you like the advanced extras (PiP) you are not forced to change your settings (if your bitstreaming audiophile) to get secondary audio.

I am sure some people will still prefer bitstreaming, but it is nice to have choices And I am pleasently surprised to see Samsung update this. I wrote DTS-HD-MA decoding on the player off well before I bought it. Since this is going in an upstairs room (still use the PS3 as my primary player) I can now consider getting a used HDMI receiver for the audio and save some money.

Try this:
In Setup->Display Setup->Screen Message (set it to off). That should fix your problem (I would think).

Or you can hit 'info' then 'menu' and it goes away until you pause. This way you get to keep your screen messages like time remain, etc.

The Samsung Blu-ray player problems have been numerous with many discs that don't play over the last couple of years. I would rather Fox not be forced to expend more money replacing discs if the discs play in all other Blu-ray players. Sony seems to be able to get their players to play everything timely and with Samsung, we wait and wait for a fix and when it comes it often causes more problems than it fixes.

Ok is says Bonusview not box lol. I can't get it to go away. I even whipped out the oem remote and was trying to get it off. I hit the bonusview button the remote and it brings up a menu and says bonusview vid off.... I eventually get it to go off but I still don't know how. I will try what some have suggested when I get home tonight. Thanks for the suggestions Ack and classico.

Chris

My Sony S-300 needed Firmware update 4.3 to play For Your Eyes Only. It was released just for this disc.

It's been confirmed by an insider in another thread that it's an authoring problem on the disc. Authoring mistakes need to be taken care of by the studio, not the hardware manufacturer. The only way fox is going to learn their lesson about putting out bad discs is if it hits them in the pocketbook.

I, for one, would rather have Samsung spend time developing new features like the before mentioned DTS-HD MA rather than expending resources fixing Fox's screwups.

I had the same thing happen while watching The Hulk.

I don't remember exactly, but here's what I did. Go into the setup menu. I believe the setting was under the video section. Find something about turning on/off "on screen menu/messages"

Yeah, I already recommended that to him. Not sure if he tried it yet. I disabled the screen messages on day 1 and have watched 30 movies and have never had an issue.

Just updated firmware flawlessly over Ethernet. Speed Racer's PQ looks amazing in 720p with my Samsung 720p LCD.

I must be one of the lucky ones. I purchased my unit from CC, Oct 13th, included was the "Ultimate Matrix Collection" Blu-ray (valued at 109.99) total cost of 248.00. I have the latest update from Samsung, via Ethernet. This unit is working like a charm.

Me too.
Got mine at C.C. with the Matrix Collection. Zero problems. Haven't updated firmware.

The one and only problem I have is fighting the urge to go out and buy a 1080P display.

This is how you read the System Software Version Data
The firmware version can be indentified by it's date of the SW version displayed
when you check the system information.

example:

S/W: XXXXXX_XXXX
Region: A/1 (BD/DVD0

Where the 1st set of X's would represent the date
i.e. yymmdd_XXXX

Here are the Software version dates
Ver 1.1 - 080621_XXXX 2008 June 21st
Ver 1.3 - 080808_XXXX 2008 Aug 08th
Ver 2.0 - 080929_XXXX 2008 Sep 29th

Update: The format above was for the older version SW Info Screen.
The new versions have more places in the the format

S/W: XXXXXX.XX_XXXXXXXX_XAA
Region: A/1 (BD/DVD0

Still the 1st set of 6 X's would represent the date
i.e. yymmdd.XX_XXXXXXXX_XAA

So Ver 2.0 looks like this.
Ver 2.0 - 080929.01_04282008_XAA 2008 Sep 29th

RSlack

Mine is;

080822.01 081908B1 XAA

I assume that means the date of Aug 22, 2008. What version would that be?
Uh Oh! I burned the latest firmware update (2.0) to a CD and burned an image. I followed the directions and hit play with the disc in the player. As it said would happen a message came on the screen saying "Verifying Firmware Version".

So far so good I thought but that was over 10 minutes ago and that same message is still on the screen. According to the directions after that message it should have shown me the old firmware rev and the new one and I could choose to update it or not.

I am hesitant to just push stop and remove the disc but I don't know what else to do.
The stop and open functions would not work so I had to power the unit off, wiated about 30 seconds then powered back on. When I hit play again I got an "invalid disc" message but when I opened the disc door and then closed it again and hit play everything worked fine and I was able to update the firmware to 2.0

The unit worked flawlessly before the update so now I am crossing my fingers and hoping it continues to do so!!

LOL, The funny thing is your going to probably to it..

Same here, the Player has been full proof. It play's everything so far, including ripped bluray with Dual DVD+R. All my DVD+R so far.

One thing That happen was I burned a ISO with Nero, the Player would not play it. I then tried it again with the same blank dvd's with Magic ISO. Played fine.

I then tried ConvertXtoDVD with a .MKV file. Had no problems playing. So far nero has been the only problem. I usually only use MagicISO to burn DVD, has anyone else had a problem watching a Nero burned dvd with this Player?

so far, love this player..

Tried to download the firmware update to bd-p1500 blue ray player using usb flash drive and manufacturer instructions----nothing happened----no message on the screen---just nothing. What did I do wrong?

BDLive 2.0 Issues...

My Samsung player is updated to the latest firmware, connected to the internet, and have a 4 gig USB Drive plugged into it.

I have the Forgetting Sarah Marshall disc... when I put it in, it tells me that there is BDLive Content and asks if I want to download... when I say Yes, this takes about a second or two... and then the main menu comes up.

When I select BDLive, it just takes me to the menu screens that tell you about BDLive. Is there something wrong with my setup or player?

Thanks for you help

For Your Eyes Only does not play in the following players:
LG BH200
Pioneer BDP-95FD
Pioneer BDP-51FD (fw 1.08b and below, works on 1.12a)
Pioneer BDP-05FD (fw 1.08b and below, works on 1.12a)
Samsung BD-P1000
Samsung BD-P1200
Samsung BD-P1500
Samsung BD-UP5000
Sharp BD-HP20
Sony BDP-S1
Sony BDP-S300
various PC players

It is an authoring issue, not the player's fault. Some players handle the authoring error better than others.

I got it to work by first turning on the player and plugging in the USB drive. It recognized it and sucked down the firmware. You then have to format the USB drive from the player to get titles like "Iron Man" to work properly. Hope this helped.

Make sure you extract the .ruf (I think it was) file from the zipped folder first and then copy the extracted file to your USB drive. Your 1500 should be able to read that.

Yeah I ended up doing that last night, it worked but the only thing I don't like is that all the messages are gone now. For instance when you fast forward you can't see what speed it is going at like before. It is the lesser of two evils though.
