* Rumor has it future firmware will provide this... I'm skeptic.

My mistake- you get core 1.5 DTS with DTS-HD MA/HR anyway. It will re-encode TrueHD to 1.5 DTS. Bottom line is that the Samsung 1500 offers the best sound options IMHO for people who have receivers that cannot decode DTS-HD MA or TrueHD.

Hi. I have looked all over the place for an answer to this but am having no luck.
Is there a way to only send Audio via the optical out. I run the HDMI cable into my LCD and optical into my reciever.
On my PS3 i have an option as to where i send my audio. On the BD-P1500 this doesnt appear to be an option. I have to turn the volume level down on my LCD otherwise i hear the audio from 2 sources giving a strange effect.
Is there a quick solution to this?
Thanks in advance.

So how many people have installed the latest firmware on samsungs site dated i think 10-24 and it actually helped with the DTS audio dropouts for example the Rambo BD ?

How do I tell what firmware is installed currently ?

I do not want to install the latest firmware and it mess the player up worse than it already is. Thanks

Why do you say "anyway", when that's what my correction to your post stated? You were getting the lossy encode.

Well, I know you stated it was "IMHO", however, why would you say it's the best option for people without the advanced codec support in their AVR, when there are many such AVR's that CAN accept LPCM in on their HDMI inputs, and would thus be able to enjoy lossless sound from the over half a dozen players that can decode advanced codecs internally and send it to the AVR via that method?

This is the best player for those of us with AVR's that only have Optical inputs for their Blu-ray player.

Ok I like many others had problems with Rambo audio dropouts. I talked to Samsungs live chat last night and the guy said install the latest firmware and it will fix it. So I loaded the firmware up last night with zero problems.

I have everything going to a Denon-789 AVR which supports DTS.

So after the firmware update I load up the Rambo dvd. I start it and the sound is working like normal. I try to skip a chapter to see if the sound works which it would not before and IT WORKS ! Ok I go to the notorius boat scene to see if the audio drops out and it works also. So I get excited. Then I notice that my Denon avr says "Multi Ch In" instead of "DTS Master Audio". And the Blue DTS light is not on like it should be.

So I go into the blu-ray players menu and go to Audio and it has it changed to PCM. So I changed it back to "Bitstream Audophile" I load Rambo and the DTS light comes on like normal BUT THE FREAKING AUDIO IS GONE JUST LIKE IT WAS BEFORE.

Is there any difference in PCM and BITSTREAM through the Denon-789 besides the fact it doesn't say DTS ?

What all else in the settings does the Firmware update change ? It has PCM Downsampling Turned to ON and Dynamic Compression On. Is that correct ?

Thanks

I don't know why it won't play Rambo with bitstream audiophile. My Denon 2808 didn't miss a beat with the Samsung in DTS-MA. Anyway, everytime you update firmware, you'll need to go and change the menu settings for playback as it puts everything back to default. You don't want PCM downsampling on and also turn off Dynamic compression. Maybe, try to do a reset via the menu or unplug for about a minute and replug. Then go and redo the settings as you need, ie. bitstream audiophile, etc. Try Rambo again after that. Good luck and I'll have no idea if that doesn't work. Samsung will probably suggest you send it in.

Nevermind on the decoding part. The 788 doesn't have decoders for the new HD codecs. You're best bet is to go via HDMI and set everything to LPCM in the BDplayer which will read on your AVR "Multi CH IN". You're getting the player to decode everything and pass it the AVR. You'll get no loss of SQ vs bitstream with all codecs except DTS-MA which these Samsungs don't have internal decoding yet. It will pass it as a DTS core signal--still reading Multi CH IN on the avr.

Hey I'm sorry I have the Denon-789 not the 788. Sorry for the confusion. Now what do you suggest ? Thanks for all the help.

So I guess your saying that one will decode DTS-MA, etc.? If so, then do as I mentioned before my Nevermind part. You could also go into the menu and verify that the update did go through(it sounds like it did since everything reset to default). Good luck and let us know.

I just picked up the Samsung P1500 from the Amazon deal and received it yesterday. So far, so good...the image quality is excellent (although my HL61A750 said it was feeding a 60hz picture when I played Resident Evil: Extinction...until I looked at one of the bonus features, then it switched to 24hz, then when I went back to the movie it continued to play at 24hz also...some weird quirk? I didn't notice any quality differences when it said 60hz versus 24hz).

Anyway, with BonusView discs like RE:E, there's a constant "BonusView" message in the upper left corner of the screen. The only way I found to turn it off is to shut off all System Messages from the setup menu...but then I don't get ANY feedback messages. Is there another way to shut off the BonusView message without shutting off all messages?

Who would ever want to see that annoying message on the screen all the time? People who miss the constant TV logos and want to reproduce the experience with BD?

Thanks,
-JimmyHDTV

Yes it will decode DTS. I will unplug the unit and go from there. I already verified the update. So your saying I need to turn pcm downsampling and compression off ? Thanks

BTW did you say you watched Rambo on your setup and had no problems ? I know many members on here have had the same problems with Rambo that I have had. I watched Hitman bluray and it never missed a beat.

How much different is PCM versus Bitstream coming through the receiver actually gonna sound except for the pretty blue light not lighting up ?

I watched Rambo on bitstream audiophile (DTS-MA) without a problem--it was even a netflix rental. I would turn off downsampling and compression for sure--don't degrade the full signal we strive for.

You shouldn't need to go the PCM route, but if you do, it would be theoretically near identical with the exception of DTS-MA tracks that the 1500 can't decode and then pass as uncompressed PCM--you get a DTS quality sound there.

Quick fix- click the INFO button, then the Menu button just to the left of it on the remote--turns it off until you pause and restart etc. Then just do it again. I found that by total accident and posted it a few months back. Works!

Thanks for the info wabkab.

I gotta say though...that is really bad design.

Agreed. I don't think any of us have laid this issue on Tech support?

Well i just got home and unhooked the power on the bluray player and tried it all again. If I skip chapters the audio disappears like it did before. I can hit the pause button and then play and the audio comes back. I read that on the Rambo movie the pause and play button will make the audio work if it drops out and it does. Ok so I fast forwarded to the boat scene where most have problems with the video freezing a little and the audio dropping out. With the audio and video working at this part of the movie it no longer freezes or loses audio. I'm hoping that part of it is fixed however if i skip chapters the same thing is still happening. I have no reason to skip chapters as long as the movie i'm watching doesn't freeze.

Any more ideas ?

I have a feeling, with this firmware, it's as good as it gets! I don't remember skipping chapters, maybe I didn't? There is word of a new one coming out by the end of the year--some have said it will allow for internal decoding of DTS-MA. If that were true, one could use the PCM settings and have everything in HD sound but the DTS-MA light up on the AVR. That's how a PS3 works.

It is not the player nor the AVR that is flawed but rather the disc itself. Probably you got one of the many Rambo BD that have been reported to be defective. It's a hit-or-miss and I remember watching a Netflix rental of Rambo and it played just fine on my 1500. My receiver is a PIO 1018.

Yes, that makes more since and I think remember that issue with the disc mentioned.

I've been searching the forums to find recent talk about audio drops, but couldn't come up with anything recent about what I have. I only have two BD's that towards the end of the movie, last 10 mins, maybe, the audio drops out for not even a second. Almost like a quick layer change. I've watched maybe eight different discs, and the only ones that do this so far are: Hostel II, and Indiana Jones...Crystal Skull.

I have the setting to bitstream, audiophile. Onkyo 605 AVR. Latest FW on both.

Any news here?

Thanks-

No but I'll be getting the Indiana Jones from Netflix and watching it this weekend. I'll keep my ears open for that. May be worth contacting Samsung about.

I have a 1500 and an Onkyo 605 (am bitstreaming audiophile as well) and did not notice any audio drops on Indy4. I have watched it all the way through twice now on the 1500 with no issues. Odd. It almost sounds like it is the disc.

Ok in light of BD Live.....
1. Anybody tried attaching a Keyboard (USB)
and or (if this has been answered my apologies...)
2. Anybody added a USB Switch to increase USB ports.

Testing out chat Feature on Sleeping beauty....
Remote is ackward and tiring after a while.

Thanks

USB port is for BD Live memory only
I've searched the forum and haven't found similar posts so here goes....

Anyone have issues accessing the bonus features on No Country for Old Men? Every time I try, the unit goes back to the Samsung screen and reloads the disk. I have tried all three of the bonus features with no luck. I have the latest firmware. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Resolved. I changed the ACI option or whatever its called in the HDMI options and the problem went away. However, I can't get Hellboy II to load at all.
