No. Totally different things. And 120Hz can't cure it because most TVs simply convert 24 to 60 then doubles it. As I said, you would have to stair at certain scenes closely to notice the subtile differences. For most of us, it is not that noticeable. For purist, it is a deal breaker. There is plenty of thread in AVS explains what is 24Fps and why it is important (or not). Search around.

Several days and movies after doing the 2.1 f/w update (from 1.3) I am hearing definite improvement in the audio. Better definition and clarity in the lossless codecs (especially TrueHD). Since nothing else in my system has changed, I can only attribute this to the new f/w.

Often one hears improvement, because one is LOOKING for improvement. I wasn't. I did the update in hopes that it would solve the drop-out issue I was having with "Enchantment". (it did) But BEFORE I put in Enchantment I was watching Batman Begins. Then I went to other TrueHD titles. All showed improvement, especially the Paramount titles. More dynamic range (punch) and an improvement in separation and definition. The rear channels (6.1 config.) had a decidedly better definition. DTS MA showed similar if less dramatic improvements.

If I am alone in hearing this, sorry you missed it. Samsung "fixed" something, that at least in my configuration, made an audible difference. Anyone else who is "hearing things" is welcome to chime in--or call me delusional if your 1500 wasn't "fixed" like mine. Either way "perception is reality" and I'm enjoying my new improved "perceived" reality.

My audio issue is not fixed. I've been having an issue with the center channel of audio fading out while watching movies. It won't totally go out, just sounds like someone turned the volume way down. So far the problem titles are...

Batman Begins
The Dark Knight
Be Kind Rewind
X-Files: Fight the Future

I upgraded the player on Friday night after watching the original X-Files. Saturday I watched Be Kind Rewind and the issue was still there, and that was actually the worst of the movies yet. I replaced the speaker wire hoping for an easy fix, it wasn't.

I posted something to the receiver forum about this issue but I'm not getting any responses. My thought is either my receiver is dying (2001) and this is the 1st sign. Or since my receiver cannot handle the new audio codecs its having issues with the Bitstream from the player (Bitstream Re-Encode over optical).

Really I'm just looking for someone to tell me its OK to buy a new receiver
post #3274 of 5644
If you're using digital audio to your receiver, it's definitely the fault of your receiver. Just for a test, set your digital audio mode to Bitstream(Audiophile) and select a DD track(none DTS/DTS-HD disc), see if the problem still there. There is a possibility that your old receiver can't handle DTS @1.5mbps (a lot of of old receivers have this problem) when you use re-encode mode. When you use audiophile mode, you will get legacy DD track @640kbps for non-DTS/DTS-HD movies.

Does this player upconvert SD DVD to 1080p/24?
or is it only 1080p?

Thanks

1080p. I know the Panasonic BD35/55 will do 24fps for upconversion, but I don't know of any other players.

You NEED to buy a new receiver--it's OK. I have the Denon 3808CI. Great sound and f/w updates have improved AQ & PQ over the last 6 months. They also added additional features for a fee. Worth a look if you've got about a grand. Works great with my 1500--and even better now with 2.1 f/w update.

yes it means my cable on an HD channel looks very similar to that of a blueray disk. where as when i am at a bestbuy and i watch a blueray on a smaller lcd tv like a 40inch the picture quality is so good its almost fake looking. i am referring to a 5th element vid i watched at bestbuy comapred to watching Wanted on my home setup.

tks.

Some cable companies actually have excellent picture quality, so if Wanted isn't that well-mastered then it's possible that BR and cable could look similar. That's just a guess on my behalf and I don't really have anything more to offer. I suppose there could also be issues with your home setup.

Regarding 5th Element, I've heard that the mastering is stunning. Heck, I thought he original DVD looked great, so I only image how great the BR version would look on a small, properly calibrated 40" TV. Eye-candy! Which I suppose can reach the point in some eyes as being fake.

PQ is indeed very subjective. But if you know where to look for differences, you will find out plenty of PQ differences. A lot ppl can't even tell the difference of PQ between SD DVD and BD, let alone HD programming vs BD. But the differences are there for sure.

Have upgraded to the latest firmware using ethernet connection with no problem but when I play a disc with BD-Live it does not load as I have tried multiple USB flash drives with no success. I do have the allow all BD-Live activated but when it asks if I want to download BD-Live features the loading screen appears for just a few seconds and the the dicc loads but when I go to BD-Live I don't get anything but the menu on the disc explaining what BD-Live is but no menu screen. Any ideas on what could be wrong ?

Have you let the 1500 FORMAT your flash drive? Is it at least 1 gig? Are they later tech with fast read/write times? If all your answers are yes, then you might want to ensure that your f/w updated properly.

Good luck,

Is anyone having issues with the BD-1500 and Universal Remotes?

I have a URC MX-980 and I'm having issues with some functions (like pause/up/down/left/right). Tried both the pre-programmed database and learning IR.

I've got an MX-500 and it works great with the 1500. I always use the learning function.

My Logitech Harmony 550 seems to work fine with my BD-P1500. So far I haven't come across a function that isn't working properly with the default buttons for the device. About the only thing on my todo list is to map the device menu button to my "Watch blu-ray" activity and add the letter buttons to the soft buttons so I don't have to switch to the device from the activity to do certain things.

That's been out since the beginning of the month. I'm still hoping they will release a firmware that enables Netflix functionality for the 1500. It's in their interest to do so just because it gets more people to use Samsung and Netflix. As far as I know the players use the same chipsets. I'm still thinking about seeing what would happen if I try to install the 2500 firmware on the 1500. Anyone tried this? Does it just say it can't do it?
The 2550 and the 2500 firmware are for different chipsets... If any hacking would be done, it would be decompiling the both the 1500 and 2550 firmwares and reconstructing the 1500's to allow the new menu items and load Netflix and Pandora Java applets.

I found and am using a 8 gig thumb drive (funny thing it look just like the one pictured in the Samsung manual) it was on sale for $12.00 and $2.00 shipping. Works great on both the BD-P1500 and HL61A750A1F.

It's beyond my ken then. I can do a lot of things, but so far, not that. Hopefully Samsung will come through eventually, since supposedly that's where the market for delivering movies is going.

Why would you need 8 gigs on the player?

So I can plug it into my Samsung HL61A750A1F for Pix and Tunes also, and at that price why not?

Ah ok - music. That makes sense. I have other setups for music.

Have done all of the things you mentioned The firmware version is
081126.01_081908B1_XAA How can I tell if it upgraded correctly?

BritInVA

I had a problem when I first programed my MX-500. Even though it said it had learned all the functions I wanted it to learn, none of the them worked. Replacing the batteries in the Samsung remote and relearning the commands made it work.

It certainly looks like the correct version. Assuming your internet connection is working, you should be able to access BD Live. Try other titles with BD Live, and if you get the same result, you might have a bug in your system interface. That means returning the unit if that is the case. It just seems that you (we) are missing something that is OBVIOUS--because a hardware failure like this is so specific. And if you were able to download the f/w through your ethernet port BD Live SHOULD also work.

This player cannot play Interview with the Vampire. I have rented it twice now and while both discs looked flawless i get the same "this disc cannot be played" error.

I have the latest networked software as of i think last tuesday and my flash drive and bdlive are working no problemo with iron man and dark night. I have had this player for about 4 months and it never rejected any other disc.

Can anybody confirm? I really wanted to add this title to my collection but it's not looking good.

Have you tried placing a garlic clove on top of the 1500 and then tried playing the movie?

Sorry.. Could not resist. Hopefully you can get to the bottom of this one.. I have not seen this movie in years. If my local Blockbuster has it, I may rent it and give it a shot in my 1500.

Everybody knows that garlic doesn't work on Anne Rice vampires.

Is anyone experiencing audio glitches? I have the Samsung BDP 1500 which outputs 5.1 via toslink; during louder scenes the audio drops in and out. This happens on all discs, PQ is fine, that does not drop at all.

I have other BD movies which play just fine as well as SD videos. Latest firmware update on the player.
