I have this player bitstreamed to an Onkyo 705 and I get Dolby True HD and DTS Master audio without much issue (got a couple of audio dropouts). That being said the picture turned a hazy purple then it would not play a couple of blu rays after that. In addition I can't get it to play 5.1 out of PCM only stereo even if I set to PCM on the 1500?

Gpmbc, check your HDMI cable to be sure you have a good connection. There are 19 connectors in the cable and it sounds like there may be a connection error.

Well, as much as I hate to say it I am returning this player to Walmart today. I could not solve the lip sync problems I was having and my return period ends today. I stopped on the way home last night and found a BD30 at Walmart and got the $100 gift card with it too. I hooked it up last night and sure enough, no lip sync problems. I did not get a lot of time to spend comparing the two other than to notice immediately the weight difference between the two players. The BD30 is much heavier and seems more substantial in that department at least. I did not notice any difference in picture quality that really jumped out at me. Audio was similar between the two but the biggest difference was that with the BD30, lips matched the audio. I really liked the 1500 but I couldn't live with the lip sync thing. It was like watching a badly dubbed kung fu movie! I tried to blame it on my receiver, tried every tweak I could think of with that but no joy. The BD30 out of the box exhibited no issue so I'm keeping it for now and the 1500 goes back.

I believe Wal-Mart's in store return policy is the same as their online policy... don't you have 90 days?..

I know I returned a player after a couple of months.

Well, I was honestly going by something I read on this site which was 15 days for electronics. The receipt doesn't say either way though. 90 days? I thought Costco and Sam's Club were the only ones with that liberal a return policy. The link you provided shows anywhere from 15-45 days for electronics although it doesn't speak specifically to A/V components, so perhaps this would fall into that 90 day category... I just didn't want to take a chance with not being able to get my money back but I may make a call just to verify as I would like a week or two to evaluate the players side by side.

Charles, nice looking room by the way. Are those DIY acoustic panels on the walls?

May have missed this, so apologies in advance if I have, but is a 2.0 profile possible for the BD-P1500 via future firmware upgrade?

What receiver/processer are you using?

I'm using an Onkyo 705, everything running through HDMI. This receiver is known to have lip sync issues but I had never noticed them with these sources:

Scientific Atlanta SA8300HDVR
Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player

The lip sync using the 1500 was REALLY noticeable right away. I'm not sure why but my receiver and this player just don't seem to want to play nice. I know others have had no problems with the same combo however. It would be interesting to see if updating my receiver firmware would make a difference. Only a DSP update is available to users while the main firmware upgrade requires taking it in for service.

I don't have my manual with me here at work, but I believe this player is described currently as a 1.1 (i.e. Bonus View) capable player with the promise of FW upgrades to 2.0 in the future.

That seems to be the general consensus here as well.

Well, I was able to watch Cloverfield last night in TrueHD with no audio drops, something I couldn't do with my BD30. So +1 towards me keeping the 1500.

That is what 2.0 ready means. It doesn't currently have it, but it is ready for it (meaning all necessary hardware is in place, just needs firmware).

Got this unit at Walmart last night for $348 with $100 gift card. Was told by clerk that I had 90 days to return it.

Everything works OK - watched a bit of 'Casino Royale' - looks and sounds great. This is my first hi-def player so I can't compare it to anything.

Anyone know what the 4 color buttons on the remote are for?

I hooked it up to my HD A35 with the same cable and had no issues.

Some type of memory will be needed as well. Connectable thru the USB. I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong.

Does anyone think I'd have a leg to stand on if I told my WM that has the 1500 for 388 that other WM around the country have it for 348 (not to mention they had it last week at that price).

Yes, I know how you feel. I have a Denon 2808ci and Denon Jeff sent me a firmware update file--I tried, but doing this was way over my head. The update is not even on the Denon site One good thing is my receiver has a lipsync adjustment--I haven't had to use it yet--don't know if it's global for all inputs,etc. Hopefully I won't have to use it.

Ps. I hear from my son that a BD player has been procured by my wife---I assume that my hints were enough to head her for the 1500--but I won't really know till Father's day. If she did this on her own, she usually goes to our local Sound Advice(tweeter) and no telling what they would have sold her. I guess anything from a Pioneer to the BD-30. I purposely left Sunday's WM flyer out so she'd see the GC thing. The wait continues--but I'll be ready.

Yeah, my receiver has a lip sync adjustment from "0" to like "250ms" I believe it is. The problem is that even "0" was TOO MUCH delay and of course it doesn't go in the other direction. If audio was ahead of video in this case then the lip sync feature might fix it but for me it was the other way around. Audio trails the video by a good bit and there was no way to fix that. The BD30 syncs up perfectly for me with no adjustments.

Nope. No leg to stand on. I have two nearby Wal-Marts, about 30 miles apart. One had an item for less, and I tried to get the other to price match, as it was closer to me. I was told that Wal-Mart's policy is to not price match other Wal-Marts.

Great if this is true. Do you have a link? I know that the sony s350 that is coming out is 1.1 and 2.0 ready with the firmware updates but some article is saying that when the 2.0 firmware update is ready for s350 they will need to buy a external memory usb is that right? If the sammy comes with the hardware like the s550 (not s350) that is sweet........I am glad I don't have to spend extra money for the memory.


On the other hand.

I went to fry's last night they have USB DESK FAN for 12.95 is this the one everybody here is talking about I believed someone said it is 19.95 so it maybe a different usb fan. By the way I thought I don't have an issue with 1500 over heat because I keep touching the top part of the unit not the bottom and you guys are right this unit is hot even for 1 full movie. So I might need to get the usb fan but can someone post a photo. The one in fry's look exactly a desk fan but just really small and it has to stand upright to use I am looking for more flexible stand (twist) so I can point it downward at the bottom of the 1500. I agree completely and I have never returned any item because I paid more than I wanted to given hindsight. Wal-Mart and Best Buy both operate on pretty small margins although I must admit I have several customer return items I purchased at Best Buy at a discount, probably returned for a similar reason. If the product doesn't work properly, by all means return it. Finding a cheaper price somewhere else isn't a valid reason to burden a retailer with a return in my opinion.

The fans that I am using is the Antec laptop cooler. It sucks air out of the bottom of the 1500 and sends it out the side. It is powered by the USB port. It was on sale last week at CC. Watch the ads they and others often run it on sale. It works great. The reason why this is different than the usual usb fan is that it takes the air out of the unit.
There are openings on the bottom of the 1500 and as has been reported the case is used as a heat sink.

The sammy 1500 decodes truhd right? but it only has 2 channel analog so how could someone enjoy a 5.1 truehd track if the sammy only have 2 channel analog? and I heard there is a rumor that the sammy 1500 will be able to decode DTS HD MA through 2 channel analog converted to PCM to the reciever (like Onkyo 705) to 5.1/7.1 speaker set up? I am confused I think I will try this later with the truehd track with my samsung. Sorry for the newbie question. Or maybe the sammy 1500 will decode truhd via hdmi and converted to pcm? Is it the same case with DTS HD MA when it become available with sammy 1500 to decode?

I hope I am not confusing everyone and pardon me for the lengthy post. So let say I have a truehd movie track with bonus view features and wanted to access the bonus view I would set up my audio into PCM and still enjoy truhd sound since the player can decode it. RIGHT?

Second if I have a DTS HD movie track with bonus view features I will hear only dts if I access the bonus view feature RIGHT?

third if the sammy 1500 can decode DTS HD MA (rumors say it's gonna happen) it is safe to set up my sammy into PCM and still enjoy DTS HD MA but it will show as PCM in my Onkyo 705 receiver RIGHT?

Wow this is great if the rumor becomes true. We will have a player comparable to PS3, S550 and bdp50 in terms of the great PQ we get but also the internal decoding of all new codecs. anyone can comment to this?

The price for the Antec laptop cooler went back up to $39.95 at CC this week. I was able to get mine last week when it was $19.95. If you look around the net, different people have this thing on sale at different times.

I think it's delivered with amazon prime for about 23-24 bucks.

At Wal-mart in our area (Renton WA) some employees are like that. they will give you a look like you are trying to con them. Those employees need to go to a customer service seminar in lengthy period of time IMO. I feel you.
