Audio50h, You do not say how you have hooked up the sound output. Since your receiver does not decode the new audio formats you should probably output through coax or toslink using PCM output. Let the player do the decoding. Be sure the receiver is set correctly. Be sure you are not downmixing to 2.0.

I'm getting a new BD player to get DTS MA bitstreaming, have the Sony S300 now.

In stead of waitng for a more high end player to come with BD Live, I think I just get this one in the mean while.

I read that this loads fast, but no one ever say how fast in seconds.

How long does it take to start from standby to the tray opens. And how long does it take from you push the tray close button to the BD movie startes?

Thought I might get one of these, but no discrete on/off makes it a no go for my system.

I guess I'll be waiting for the next sale........

$388 is the Sony BDP-S300 price at Walmart. I think your Walmarts simply have the Sammy mixed up with the Sony...$348 for the Sammy at all our Walmarts that stock it.

What's wrong with using "play" for discrete on, and "play + power" for discrete off? I've been doing that for years with various dvd players.

What the hell. Maybe its a local thing. I called 7 walmarts (and went to two of them in person) and they all told me 388. It's not a mixup.

I never thought of that.

Do you use this "technique" with a Harmony? Just wondering how long (if any) of a delay would be needed between the 2 commands in order for this to work.

You're going to need to buy blue movies anyway. Why not just use the money for those at the grocery store, and use the GC to buy the movies?

I don't have to buy blu rays right now, i can rent them from netflix

Buying extra blu ray movies is something that isn't helping "drop the price", vs groceries are something that you do have to buy.

rwestley, I went ahead and set the player to the PCM digital output setting as mentioned on page 35 of the manual. It seemed like the more appropriate choice. Everything I have is hooked up via HDMI cables. The problem is, even standard DVD's don't seem to sound as strong as they did with my Yamaha DVD player.

Nope, I checked two Wal-Marts out here in the Atlanta suburbs (including the one where I purchased the 1500 for $348). They all increased the BD-P1500 to $388. No mix ups, the isle markings and stickers on the units were updated to the higher price.

hmm, maybe I need so sell my 1500 for <$348 instead of returning it..

I'm not really a fan of such workarounds, but...

I guess the next key question is how long does the player take to boot up? If too long that could make a workaround prohibitive.

Samsung BDP-1500 running HDMI to DVI on Outlaw 990 I get the logo upon powerup via HDMI then goes to black screen.
Video available through composite so I tried all different resolutions and both TV and Monitor as well as with and without CEC. Same result. HELP!!

Seems like this is an HDMI handshaking issue. Whatever settings are in bootup memory SHOULD be able to be set after bottup so I maintain picture
but can't seem to find them. Have even reset player a few times via reset commands and powerdown. No change.

The only problem with Jumper was the credits. Did you watch the credits at the previously documented time stamps?

Boot up is pretty good. ~15 seconds or so I'd guess.

15 seconds does sound really good for a hi def player. But in the context of creating a pseudo discrete off remote command that would be problematic.

I am actually finding various reports of problems with jumper on past Samsung models and on software based players. On the past Samsung's, the problem appears to be the worst during the credits.

Apparently jumper uses a new version of BD+, and it is giving some players trouble.

So again, for those saying no problems with jumper, did you check all the credits?

And is does that make the problem one of the disc (the encode), or is it a problem with the onboard BD+ decoder?

I have tried 2 different discs and have come up with the same issue. 2 or 3 minutes before the intermission, I get pixelization and macro-blocking. The Rest of the film plays great. Has anyone else experienced a problem with the BD of Patton?

Thanks,
Classico

Anyone else happen to have their BD-P1500 hooked up to a Toshiba 57H94 TV?

I'm having intermittent HDMI issues with my BD-P1500 and I've eliminated all but the player itself and my TV as the issue. The HDMI is just going out for a couple of seconds at various times.

It's my thought that it's the player that is the defective since I think if it were an incompatibility issue with the TV I would get no HDMI connection at all.

This happens regardless of what disc is in the unit and playing.

I just picked up the player on Friday from Best Buy however they have no more in stock at any stores local to me so swapping it out right now is not possible.

I do plan on hooking it up to my other HDTV to see if the issue persists there but I wanted to post to see if anyone else experienced this issue with theirs.

Subtitles -- I threw in an old standard definition DVD, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and noticed an odd thing. There were approximately 6 times during the movie when the subtitles came on for just a split second, maybe 1/10 of a second, even though I had subtitles turned off. I just got this player yesterday, and did not have any similar problem playing 3 BDs (Dead Pool, Gattaca, and Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer).

Mildly annoying, but nothing too serious. They should be able to fix this in a firmware update.

Yep, here south of the ATL, the price is & has been 388.

And just to confirm, I also went to Hiram and Dallas today, and sure enough they were 388 also, and they wouldn't budge. They also explained to me that there would be a 7 day price adjustment policy that wouldn't affect the gift card. But you have 90 days to return the item, but then of course you would lose the gift card.

In the end, I guess the best price I'll ever see is $288, with today's gift card. My expectation is that at some point in time it will drop to at least $299, so for now, I shall just be waiting.

Sigh.
388? Wow. walmart.com is still advertising $348, but I guess every store can do whatever they please. At least I got BestBuy to pricematch the cheaper price and throw in a $100 gift card.

Would the onkyo htsr800 be a good htib for this player? I understand that the onkyo wont put the audio out via hdmi so you have to use the opticle audio out. So would I be able to get the HD audio from blu ray? thanks in advance.

Also another stupid question would 7.1 be worth it if blue rays are recoreded in 5.1 ? I know I know beginer stuff here THANKS

I had a problem with my 1500 tonight. The last movie I watched was Jumper. Since I watched that movie, the player has not been turned on. Tonight I ejected the movie and inserted Pan's Labyrinth.

The player locked into 1080p on disc load, even though my TV is 1080i only. So I got unsupported mode on my TV. I could not get the player to switch out of 1080p. I finally had to hook up RCA cables so I could see the menus, and sure enough, the player was set to 1080p/24.

I had never set the player to this setting, and when I switched to 1080i, it was back to working. However, I find it troubling that the player switched to 1080p/24 all on its own.

When I put Pan's back in, it played in 1080i.

Blu-ray Player: BDP-1500
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V663
Audio Connection: HDMI to receiver
Video Connection: HDMI to receiver
Blu-ray video out: 1080i/60
Blu-ray audio out: Bitstream (Audiophile)

Problem:

Audio Dropout at 1:52:15.

The dropout was random and did not repeat on rewind and replay. When the dropout occurred, the DTS-HD MA logo flickered on and off on my Yamaha 663. Everything had played perfectly to that point.

UPDATE:

This appears to be a compatibility issue between the player and my main TV. I hooked the 1500 up to another TV and have been watching error free now since my original post.

Is there any way I can let Samsung know about the compatibility issue? I tried the "Contact Us" form on their site but they don't even list the 1500 as a unit that you can contact them about.

On a side note I did find out that the Vizio VX32L is actually capable of 1080p even though it is not advertised as such. I told the BD-P1500 to output in 1080p on the VX32L and it worked just fine. The VX32L even reported it as 1080p.

Well mine locked up hard & now it won't turn on

I was using DVE Basics to calibrate/ I had selected Play All. I was an hour or so into it & the 1500 just locked up. It was not responsive to remote or button pushed. So I reached around & unplgged it from the powerstrip. Now it will not come on. The worst part, is that the DVD BAsics disc is stil in there!!

As has been noted by many others, the bottom of the unit was very warm. Mine is on a 99 dollar Wally World stand that is completly open & it is on a shelf by itself so air flow is not an issue.

I am currenty using the Anynet feature with my Samsung LN46A650. Obviously both the tv and player are HDMI 1.3 compatible, however, my receiver is a Sony that has the older HDMI version 1.2. The problem is, each time I turn on the player to watch a blu ray or standard dvd, the tv screen turns a pink color for a few seconds then I get the blue Samsung display, however, the resolution resets itself to 720p and the movie frame (24) feature resets to off. What am I doing wrong?
