Ceiling mount Traverse Rods?

Do any of you guys know of any ceiling mount traverse curtain rods? I know the makita and Add-A-Motor kits can be ceiling mounted, but I can't seem to find regular ceiling mounted Traverse curtain rods.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Just do a google search on "ceiling mounted Traverse curtain rods", it looks like there are a few options. Are you looking for a rod type system or a ceiling mounted curtain track type system?

What kind of curtain weight are we talking about? If it's something heavier (12oz and above), you might need a track system like the above poster mentioned. If it's just regular household type stuff, then a traverse rod would be fine.

Not a lot of weight. 10 lbs each side max. Probably more like 7 lbs. each side.

Do the track systems above have the pulley system that a center draw traverse rod would have? I am working on a masking system and have the mask panels ready to go, but even doing the google search doesn't come up with anything that would work for me. I am going to go over to a custom drapery shop and see what they can do for me.

I ran across this brand of IR controlled motorized curtain rods a while back, most likely sold under a couple of brand names, but take a look to see if these might meet your needs. You could "Google" the model number "CL-800" & see whom else might sell them. Kits come with wall & ceiling mounts.

This site has some great photos showing the kit.
6.5' - 10' $195
10' - 13' $285

Some say on this forum, that curtains will ride too far from the screen to mask it well (due to stackback). Read about AVS member Vern Dias's build & he placed another track closer to the screen surface for the vertical masks to ride in & provide a connection 'tween the curtains & that 2nd trach to pull the masks along as the curtains move. See this AVS thread for text @ post # 10

Here is a company that makes AL curtain tracks;

An eBay seller named "curtaintrax" also sells their products.

The AVS Forum is such a great place.
Maybe Vern will check in & add more details about his great build...

Thanks for the information. I only need to mask between 16:9 and scope modes. It would be nice if I could set it to 4:3 mode too, but that is not critical. Can this be configured to that fully closed is only 1/3rd of the way closed?

I don't own this curtain rod setup, I am a long way from needing them. Not sure the control will permit what you are asking. Write them an email & ask, they should answer. Someone might be able to come up with a "hack" of some sort with limit type switches to shut off the motor at desired AR points. I had asked them a question similar to that & dog gone I erased it...dumb me! Let us know...

It might just take something that blocks the rod from going further. I think that is how some of them work. When the rod stops, the circuit senses that the motor is straining and turns off. I could be wrong though.

Oh yeah as a side note, I am masking with framed panels so stackback isn't an issue for me.

Cameron,

I ran across this link somewhere on this forum. It will take you to a setup by Shane Mattson, using an Add-A-Motor & controlled by an X-10... Read about how he programed his controller

Another item; an Austrailian eBayer seller "curtaincontrol"
sells an IR controlable curtain rod motor (cord puller type). Guess you would need to get a US 110 VAC wall wart to power the motor. Click on the high lighted word "installation" in the description section to download a pdf of the instructions to see how it mounts to various curtain rods. See item number: 280231026042

Hope this helps.

Yeah that first link shows some promise it is essentially the same as the add a motor job. I wish there was one more stopping position. This could work for me as a worst case scenario (that wouldn't be that bad) I suppose.

The second ebay one looks interesting too. Might work better than my DIY motor solution. I will have to investigate a bit more.

Thanks!
