Buy the wire from monoprice. Buy yourself a case of good beer with the money you save.

What you need to know when it comes to wires are to run them as short as possible and use 10-12 gauge wires. The only reason to spend extra on the same gauge wire is to ensure they have good enough insulation against oxidation which can be a major problem in some tropical areas.

I just made my own speaker wires for the first time with monoprice 12 AWG wire and a bunch of their closed type banana plugs following an on-line guide I found after googling for 'how to use closed type banana plugs'. You really only need a wire cutter and a utility knife to get it done.

That's about the cheapest I know of. Still not that cheap considering how much it costs to make your own.

HERE are some good banana plugs that are very easy to attach. See the instructions on that page. 20-pack is available, too.

Yeah, I know. I just happened to stumble upon them. They didn't offer banana-terminated. The price was right, so I posted the link. Pins can still be used, especially at the speaker end, but can be tougher (if not impossible) with a receiver's binding posts.
