Please help techno dummy with Canon GL-2.

If I buy this camera, I assume I should upgrade my 15yr old, analog TV. I don't watch TV very much so am just concerned getting one compatible with the GL-2 videos I make. Can anyone give me some suggestions? I appreciate the difference between digital, 720 and 1080 HD, but that's about all. I am concerned about the image files produced by the camera being compatible with the TV specs.

The GL2 is a standard-definition DV camcorder that records plain 480i and also has a 30 fps pseudo-480p mode. Video shot on this camera will display fine on your 15 year old TV and will be easy to edit on any computer made within the last 5 years.

The GL2 was a nice prosumer 3CCD camera when it came out 6-7 years ago but it is older technology, and the industry is rapidly moving away from those delicate MiniDV tapes. Unless you're getting a great deal on a used one (say, $500 or less) or really need all the manual controls, you might be happier with a newer flash-based camcorder... maybe something like the Canon TX1, which records very nice 30p video to SD cards in easy-to-edit MJPEG AVI files.
