HK avr hdmi and optical audio question

I have a dishnetwork hd receiver, the only problem is it only has dvi out which means the sound has to be carried through optical. Now I have a dvi to hdmi cable but can I connect the dvi to hdmi cable to my HK receiver and have the avr output the video from the hdmi cable while playing the audio from the optical cable?. Thanks.

It should work barring any HCDP issues between the Dish receiver the AVR.

How do I assign the avr to process audio from optical while the video comes through hdmi?.

A couple of questions..
1. What HK AVR do you have?
2. Certain DVI to HDMI cables do not work rite.. Are you seeing the pix OK?

Post back and we/I will try to help you get it sorted out..

Just my $0.02...

Go into the OSD..
You will find a page for configuring the source inputs, there you can make the choice for Video and the choice for Audio for the selected input.

Just my $.02...

Yes..

You could always use component cables for your HD cable since component will support 1080i. Then use fiber optic or digital coax for sound, you'll just have to assign it. It will still up convert that signal out to the tv via HDMI. I personally can't stand anything with DVI, always a pain in the ass.
