Greetings ALL!!

NEW to the world of home video entertainment and all that.. started off with wanting a ps3 and OBVIOUSLY needing the 50"+ tv to go with it...

LONG STORY SHORT:

got extremely LUCKY and got the deal of a lifetime(at least in my rookie experience)

check it..

Best Buy had a Samsung DLP 56" on clearance sale for $1300, since they were out they sent me to another best buy that had the same model on clearance for $1183!!! AFter getting home and realizing TV had already been opened and going back to BEST BUY to address this with a store manager, RECIEVED another 15% off, so in basics got the tv for only $983!!

Now to my problem...

I have noticed two "smear like" smudges on the lower left had corner..at 1st I thought they were actual smudges on the screen and I tried to clean them.. but they are not..

They really only appear and are noticable against a dark background, showing up almost as two lighted up smudges... i.e. in a movie when they are in a dark room or if playin video games and it goes to a all black load screen, then you see them. otherwise you really dont...

so my 3 main questions to you are..

1. what exactly are they and is this something I can fix or that I should be worried about?

2. Obviously I'm still within in my 1st 30 days of purchase, but thing is.. it was a clearance item and no store has this item any longer it would seem..
so as far as Best Buy is concerned what can or SHOULD I do.. i mean how would they handle this being that they no longer have this TV in that store? What would YOU guys do in my shoes?

3. regardless of what happens, Best Buy pitched a 4 years parts and labor warranty for $250, I have read online and even Consumer Reports that this is a BIG waste of money... but all my friends and family upon finding I went with a DLP have gone up in arms about me making this purchase, saying I'm a fool if I don't do it, based on lifespan's on DLP's.. what do you all say on that?

thank you and I hope you can find the time and patience to help a novice consumer like myself NOT get taken... I mean its only $1000 but still to me thats a LOT OF $$$

please do advise

the model of the TV is a:

Samsung HL-T5676SX/XAA

THANK YOU

Check the owner's thread for your tv, you'll either find the answer or you can post your problem there and get answers:

When you get there, look in the upper right of the thread "search this thread".

As I see it you have 3 options:
1. Live with it as is -- if this is not acceptable, then:
2. Take it back to BB now for a full refund OR:
3. Call Samsung now about the problem, and see if they can get a technician to quickly come out and examine/fix your set within the BB 30-day return window. If Samsung can't respond that quickly, then ask if them (Samsung) to replace the TV for something newer/better at no cost to you. If this option doesn't work, then you're back to option 2.

Sounds like you got a very good price, but maybe you need to keep in mind how much you originally expected/budgeted to spend for a good 50"+ HDTV. After all is said and done, you may still need to spend that much $$ to get everything set up right.

sgoooter, thanks for you AWESOME REPLY!!! I really appreciate it!! I will attempt to contact Samsung tonight, and see where that takes me...

if I go the BestBUy route, is it better to speak with a manager or whats the recommeneded route?

does anyone have any relevant experience in dealin with this or shared experiences?

In my wildest dreams, it would be cool if best buy or heck even Samsung just swapped it out for the replacement NEW samsung 56" HL-56A650 <-- has 120ghz engine, that would be crazy right? any one think they would do that? it sells for $1500 right now...

on the LIVING with it... it does bother me so much as it worries me.. i.e. signal of FUTURE PENDING issues.. ??

again THANK YOU all and any other replies and input GREATLY appreciated!!

p.s. tryin to call BestBuy's CS dept is not gettin me anywhere...one "chick" told me to I HAVE TO BRING IT In, when I called to inquire about my option's.. which is not feasible as i ONLY own a honda civic...
