Mine came with 3 pieces of styrophone on one side (though it looked like it had broken from 1 into 3), and 2 on the other side that had ragged edges, like when they packed it, they just broke off pieces from some generalized packing foam in order to make it fit... kind of weird that it didn't look custom made for this unit.
It's similar to that Shinji23 guy's unit except instead of having a broken top backlight, I have bad backlight bleed on the corners where the styrofoam was broken plus bad black level overall and a few dead pixels, the unit also makes an insanely annoying dog whistle buzzing sound that I hear occurs on non-damaged units too so mine is getting returned for refund and this concludes the largest run on sentence ever. Mine also turned off while watching it so it's definitely screwed up.
No dead pixels that I can see; backlight seems fine (tho' doesn't have a huge range of adjustability) - I even wrote to Panasonic to ask why the range of adjustability for the backlight seemed so tiny... i asked what the adjustment's for if it doesn't seem to have much effect, and I got an email back that said, quote: "The backlight adjustment is for adjusting the backlight." D'OH!
And I do get a pretty strong buzz from mine, though when watching a movie I don't really notice it; I wonder if it's hurting my hearing subconsciously. :-/
