Well, I am finally ready to start my theater room. It has been a long time coming. Like most of the theater build threads this is going to be kind of a slow one. Also like most, this is going to be a budget friendly build. I just finished remodeling half of my house including the kitchen so I am out of money. I will be purchasing materials little by little every two weeks. You know why? That's paydays! I am not a newbie to remodels and working with tools but I also don't know everything. I'm sure I will have a lot of questions along the way and from my reading this is the best place to ask.
Now a little about the room I will be using. I am converting my 1 car garage. The measurements are 19'6 x 16'3. We do not use the garage for anything other than storing junk. During my recent remodel I built a 16' x 12' storage building in the backyard to store the junk. You will tell from the photos below that the junk still has not made it there yet. There are some obstacles that I am going to have to work around to finish the room. One being the washer and dryer are in the garage and will have to stay. I am going to build a closet around them and try to do the necessary things to cut down on the noise but it is what it is. The way I look at it is a home theater with a washer and dryer in there is better than no home theater at all. The second obstacle is how I am going to do the sheetrock over the existing foundation. You will see in the photo below I have a foundation (brick), then the joist, then the studs. I really didn't want to sheetrock over the studs and leave the brick exposed. I could frame new walls completely but that would be a big hit to the budget. Another option is to frame up above the joist but then you have a ledge all the way around the room. Just not sure what I'm going to do yet. If anyone has any idea's let me know.
Most of the budget is going to be going to the cost of converting the garage so I will not have a lot left over for equipment. As far as the projector goes I am leaning towards the HC1500. Speakers I will use my existing Klipsch. I will be purchasing a new HSU sub. I do not have a PS3 at the time but planning on purchasing on in the future so I will run the necessary cable. Attached below are the photos of the garage and I will keep you informed. Tomorrow I will post the plan I have drawn out. Would do it now but it is on my office computer. So let the journey begin and I'm sure there will be lot's of questions along the way.
