So here it is.
At the moment I have 2 of these in their own ported enclosure of roughly 12cu ft tuned to 14 hz.
After moving the subs to the harmon recommendation haflway on the side walls facing each other i seem to finally have the impact I was looking for originally.
The problem is they are way too big and interfere too much.

My idea is to go sealed and make them as shallow as possible. width and height don't have any limitations.
Here is a picture where you can see how much they intrude in the room.

So what I'm asking is what is the shallowest I can make the sealed box, and what is the optimum size I am looking at.

I guess I will eventually need a BFD or something similar, but that will come later.

Thanks
Mike

With sealed you will lose output down deep, that you know.

The IXL18.4 works well even in a very smallish sealed 4.5-5cu ft cabinet. You can add stuffing to lower Q.

The cabinet can be as shallow as 10-12inches ! Here bracing is very important as the front baffle and back will be large.

My IXL 18's will reside in 4.5cu ft boxes(per driver).

So how do you like the subs, sound quality and output wise now?

For the price I paid they are amazing. Granted, I can't compare them to anything else but the 12"jbl gt in my car. But, they seem very well.

Arthur. How low can they go in sealed alignment.

Sound q they seem to be pretty good for music and awesome for home theater.
Output they are each running off of a channel on my ep2500.

In room, you can expect single digit extension...good output to below 20Hz.You would need four IMO to get plenty of output down very deep in your room.

Model two in a 9-10cu ft cabinet with enough power to reach 25mm excursion each way ~ 12Hz to give you an idea. A little help from the EQ ...3dB gain will not hurt,I would say try a 3dB gain at 15Hz.The room will help the response...further.

So, if I'm using them for ht use more than music do I stay ported and just build slimmer cabinets.
I'm liking the idea of the smaller sealed cabinets.

I doubt 'All in the family' is doing them any justice though

lmao.
I didn't even know that was on until I took the picture. When I'm on the computer the tv is on just for backround noise.

Hmm you say you can go high with these? Why not just make them as tall as the room but much shallower? Then maybe you can build another pair of ported subs or *gasp* maybe a transmission line. BTW, you don't even need boxes that big, you could easily put those guys in 5-8 cube ported or PR'd boxes.
