I have noticed over the past week on my 6020 that when I watch CSI on SpikeHD (Directv), that the picture seems to jump around, stutter some. I haven't noticed it on any other channel yet. Could it be the feed from D*, or maybe a setting on my 6020? Has anyone else noticed this?
sounds like a directv source problem with that one channel. have you checked your sat signal strenght for that channels transponder?

Well, I just ordered a Pioneer 5020 (along with a Sanus TV stand) from one of our forum's sponsors, and I have to say that I'm pretty excited. This is going to be my first flat panel display, and I can't wait to hook up my PS3 and see the Planet Earth Blu-Ray discs in all of their glory.

I have a quick question about the recommended break-in period: What is the purpose of the break-in? Does it increase the longevity of the panel? Does it make for more a more accurate or pleasing picture when the break-in is completed? I assume it does something; I just don't know what!

Thanks!

The best idea is to look through some of the threads dedicated to discussing break-in (there's an official thread which is a sticky at the top of the forum) and decide for yourself. There are many proponents and opponents to it around here (enough to quickly get this thread off-track with a long argument).

I do haircolor for a living and have a pretty discerning eye when it comes to color. I've noticed the color is way off on my new 5020. I'm currently watching a baseball game and all the uniforms are pinkish white, slightly magenta. When I looked at the screen today in an off state, the surface even looked pink! Is this the anti-reflective coating? What is going on?

I tried changing the color, the tint, the contrast, the mode, etc to no avail. I'm going back and forth between my computer monitor as a control...the whites are so much more pink on the 5020. It doesn't look like reality!

I tried changing the media also to Blu Ray...everything just looks off. Do I need to wait on the break-in period? Do I need a different TV? Help please

What's with the PIP controls? How can you get PIP with this TV?

Under options, ------> HDMI input, ------> video, make sure it is set to "auto", you may have the wrong color choice set there. Unless you know the source, use auto, it will detect correctly for you. This can cause a magenta coloring if the wrong option is selected.

If changes to Tint and Color are "to no avail" then your set would have to be defective. Not sure why you would be changing the contrast for magenta.

Tint should certainly alter the hue on your primary colors and Color control should pretty dramatically +/- the color intensity.

If I see too much red in a source for instance (since it can vary some with source) a few clicks toward green on tint and or a slight decrease in color is enough to fix it nicely. If you can't get color adjustments I'd be thinking defect. Are you working from movie mode? Optimum?

That would have been me. The lone delivery guy was running late (missed 4 hour delivery window by 1 hour) - of course he needed help getting the box into my house - he was willing to unpack the TV and plug it in and to allow me to plug in a source connection (while laying flat on the box?) - but refused to assemble/attach the stand. I probably argued with him and his supervisor (on the phone) for 20 min to 1/2 hour. His supervisor insisted that they "don't build a stand to set the TV onto" - and I kept stating that the stand in question is integral to the TV and that we could not check if its functioning properly without setting it onto the stand. It went back and forth like this (think Monty Python's argument clinic) for some time and over the course of 2 seperate phone calls. Afterword the delivery guy - perhaps understanding my point) did help to assemble the stand and did stick around while I hooked it up and checked it out - but he refused to attach the speaker.

I later put on the speaker myself (no big deal) and the TV works great - no buzz, no damamged pixels - all A OK. However I did send a detailed complaint to Amazon and they responded that they forwarded it to their delivery department or some such. My problem may have been due to circumstance - don't know - because otherwise I have always been pleased with Amazon service. I don't know if Amazon/CEVA makes use of the same delivery folks for the whole DC area. I'm in Fairfax County VA. Hope this helps.

winoman --That stinks! I was lucky and the White Glove delivery of my 6020 from Amazon was done as advertised. It ultimately depends upon what local cartage company CEVA uses for local deliveries.

The cartage outfit CEVA used in OKC turned out to be just fine. Two guys came, unpacked the TV attached the stand and the speakers, and tested it. I did have a brief debate about the speakers with my delivery guys but in the end they came through and attached them for me. As noted in my earlier post, my 6020 seems to be perfect.

Enjoying the Olympics on my new 6020. I've noticed on some scenes with fast motion, such as a gymnast performing a somersaulting vault, that the image breaks down in the area with the motion (i.e., the gymnast becomes blurred or pixilated). Would that most likely be an issue with the 6020, my provider (Verizon FiOS TV), or the broadcaster? I'm currently using the settings provided by D-Nice (Movie, et al).
It's the signal crash. Digital break-up is the fault of the provider not allowing for enough bandwidth for the image to handle the fast motion. The amount of information gets compressed in order to fit the alotted bandwidth.

Welcome to the Kuro club!

Well, I've now read (or at least skimmed) all 97 pages of this thread, and I'm more excited than ever about my 5020. (Hopefully it will arrive early next week.)

I do have a question that I haven't found an answer for, though. I'm going to be using a receiver (Sony STR-DA7100ES) that, at least as far as I know, cannot pass 1080p24. So, I plan to connect the PS3 directly to the 5020 via HDMI. That leaves the question of how to get 5.1 sound to the receiver. Are these my only two options? (Are they even options at all?)

1. Run a digital audio cable from the 5020 back to the receiver. There seems to be some controversy, though, about whether audio from HDMI sources can be sent back to a receiver this way.

2. Run a digital audio cable from the PS3 to the receiver. Can the PS3 send the signal through HDMI (to the 5020) and digital audio (to the receiver) at the same time?

Any ideas?

I apologize if this question has, in fact, been answered elsewhere. If it has, please direct me to the post.

Thanks in advance!

Matty

Thank you very much for the clarification - it definitely helps. I am probably going to purchase sometime in the next two weeks (a few financial loose ends to tie up), and will decide then between Amazon and Robert. I'll post an update once I've gone ahead.

Thanks to everyone on this thread - invaluable information here!

1. no, it will not pass audio from hdmi sources, only from the internal tuners.
2. yes, connect the digital audio out from the ps3 to your receiver.
I too have had the problem crasht51 mentions - only once (2 instances right after one another) and I initially freaked out about it - but it seemed so antithetical to the experience I've had with the set so far that I figured it must be Verizon's fault.

msilverz - I have my PS3 feeding optical audio to my AVR and it sounds great (Dolby Digital) - I also have conected the optical out of the set to the AVR but have yet to test it - but I feel that it should pass the audio from an HDMI source - but don't know for sure.

This is what I do and it works great for basic dolby digital and DTS, however, I don't believe you can get the newer audio codecs (dolby trueHD and DTS-HD) over optical cable. So, you'll need to get a new HDMI reciever that supports them if that is important to you.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
In order to take full advantage of the new audio codecs, you will need HDMI connection to your PS3. The PS3 decodes it and sends the LPCM signal to your receiver via HDMI. It's not sending the new audio codecs digitally, though.

You don't need a new receiver to utilize what the PS3 is capable of sending. Just a receiver that meets the HDMI 1.2 specifications. The newer receivers will almost all have HDMI 1.3 specs which is what is required to have the receiver do the decoding, if your player allows for the digital signal to be passed through (which the PS3 cannot).
Thanks for all of the quick replies! I'll run a digital optical cable to the receiver until I upgrade to an HDMI 1.3 receiver.

I am using HDMI video from my PS3 to my 6020 and optical audio to my Yamaha RX-V2400 receiver. It works just fine. BD audio via optical, although apparently not quite up the standards of the latest Codecs, is still the best I have ever heard - anywhere. Of course, the PQ of 1080p BDs displayed at 1080p on the 6020 is out of this world. Now, if I could finally solve my mounting problems and get the 6020 off of the floor, I would REALLY be happy.

anyone have some reviews of the 6020 that they could point me towards? My sister-in-law has an unopened 6020 (purchased via pioneer's employee program) that she's decided to sell via Craigslist (apparently too large for her room) and needs some reviews to attach to the ad. TIA (and **cough** pm me if you know of anyone looking for a good deal on a 6020 in socal).

It's called macroblocking. It's introduced from NBC's feed, not your Kuro.

LPCM is digital. So any signal sent over HDMI, whether it is the original codec or LPCM is digital. The only analog signal sent from a BD player is via the 7.1 RCA outputs and the PS3 doesn't have this.

Just purchased 2-week old Pioneer 5020 and love it...but I noticed -- so far only during commercials -- blue vertical lines about 2-3 inches long, maybe 10-12 of them, spanning the width of the screen, flickering on/off. Usually only visible/appearing if the background is white.

I'm desperately hoping this is just the cable/signal and not my beautiful plasma?!!

(I'm using a cable HD signal with an HDMI cable).

Any info/help about this appreciated.
