I guess I was thinking more of routing the speakers through the TV and leaving the other 4.1 set up through the receiver and simply not muting the TV..is this a no-no?

It's easy to do....
Congrats on your new set..

Skin tones and colors seem correct to my eyes in my dim, but still lighted room area.

Day calibration, I only use the i1pro as it can be place right on the screen. I do not trust the PR-655, or any non-contact meter in anything environment beyond a pitch black room due to light contamination.

i pulled the trigger on a 5020/BDP-51FD last night from buy.com. Hard to beat the deal. It's on a slow truck, so I have plenty of time to get anxious over it.

this thread has been very informative (as has the whole board) and I'm looking forward to life with a Pio plasma.

D-Nice, since you seem to be an expert on these TVs, is the sharpness enhancement and noise reduction fully defeatable in movie mode? A review claims the sharpness isn't fully defeatable and that's making me hesitant to pull the trigger on one of these TVs.

Try Jeff Meier and Chad Billheimer. I think Doug Weil will tour that area sometimes too.

Edit: Shawn Byrne also covers your area.

Great deal... I matched it at my work (Best Buy) so I wouldn't have to wait for the shipping delays. Congrats on your purchase

I'm getting my 5020 delivered to my current address, but will be moving in about two weeks. When it's delivered I'll definitely open the box, inspect it, plug it in, and make sure the panel is ok and the electronics aren't DOA.

I'm wondering if I could leave the TV in the base part of the box (after you lift off the top) and start breaking it in now while I can't really set it up, so that it's broken in by the time I get it setup in my new place.

Basically, does the TV vent out of the bottom at all so that I'd possibly overheat the set or anything? I may just go ahead and assemble the stand I've bought and sit it on that until I just pack everything up, and just put the stand in the U-Haul assembled.

the 5020 comes in the box with a stand already attached. the bottom foam basically covers the master power switch, and the full bottom of the TV. i wouldn't want to run it for any significant period of time partially enclosed like that. like another poster suggested, just take the TV out of the box and sit on the floor attached to the stand if you want, then place back in the box to move. the only packaging that might be a bit of a pain to align properly is the foam for the top, which will want to fall down around the sides of the TV when you put the top part of the box back on. you can probably tape the two pieces together to hold them in place.

yes, you would need ControlCal to adjust the greyscale.

If you mean the Home Theater review, the guy used standard mode for testing because he didn't know how to calibrate it. Movie mode will defeat EE at sharpness -15 but it can't produce single pixel lines. Meaning you'll be able to display content with no EE but it will be less sharp or detailed compared to a TV that can faithfully resolve single pixel lines without blurring them together.

3D Digital Noise Reduction Yes
Field Noise Reduction Yes
Block Noise Reduction Yes
Mosquito Noise Reduction Yes
Tuner Noise Reduction Off / On (for each channel)

Does this mean all this processing is undefeatable? Is it only applied in certain AV modes (i intend to use movie mode)? If it's constantly doing noise reduction and whatnot, that would be a major dealbreaker...

Movie mode is pretty clean, there is some processing on (CTI, Black Level) but it's pretty good, Game is about the same as movie with a higher color temp and a more aggressive ABL (From what I've seen). The rest of the modes are horror shows with practically every PQ killing option turned on.

What does it have to do with being the smartest person alive? All I said was you don't read, which your reply kinda prove .

Most guys on here have been quite patient with you and your repetitive questions about settings and possible damage to your panel. I would suggest you use your remote control, adjust the TV to your liking in whatever mode you think is best, and then just relax and enjoy it.

I bought mine the same time as you also from VE. Doesn't feel so bad once you factor in shipping and tax. Then that 400 dollars looks more like we only paid 50 more. I just think BB is a joke when they have these sales on Blu-ray players and TVs and not a single store in a 100 mile radius has them in stock.

was a real scam by BB..let's see what bait and switch they try next since CC is gone.....I know Robert personally...there isn't a nicer guy you could ever meet..thank god for people like Robert and his wife in the electronics world..the thought of only BB clowns running the show is enough to make one nauseous

Anyone buy the 5020 from BestBuy?
I heard they have a 10% off coupon, which would be nice since you have TAX.
Would be nice if they would through in the BD51 too!
Plasma Concept has a better deal right now, you might wanna check it out.
Robert and Wendy are awesome. I couldn't be happier with the service they gave me. And now that i think about it, the amount of questions i had for them on top of their awesome service is worth the price difference to me.

On the two 5020's I received (Returned the first one because of a dead pixel), there was a yellow sheet packed in with the remote that clearly indicated how to power the TV on the first time.

Did you guys not have this yellow sheet?

Mine that I bought from work (best buy) had the yellow sheet on the top of the tv taped to the foam wrapper... it clearly explained how to first power up the set. Could it be the later build dates? Mine is September of 2008
post #6990 of 14721
I'm pretty sure mine had that yellow sheet
