You will not (nor will anyone else) probably be getting a Kuro.

He even said so himself (post-calibration) that if my set was next to an Elite I would not be able to see a difference.

I can't wait to get home and watch my set....I know I know...I'm pathetic :P

Very interesting. In the case of your panel, the generic offsets would have made the picture less accurate.
Thanks for the reply. Enjoy the Kuro.
Wish he would come out west.

D-Nice Calibrated my Samsung LCD LN-5265 last night. The reason for this was after his Calibration of my 5020, the LCD looked so bad I was concerned I would not have the best of two worlds(I.E.using the LCD for SD, Fox News, and any thing in 4X3.

Under difficult situations(due to the TV) he spent a lot of time doing the best to make my TV world and plans better.

I showed my wife a Blu ray Disc Movie the next morning , and she could not believe how good it looked. This is from a women that doesn't care if it is in SD or HD.

I want to thank D-Nice for making a senior citizen much happier.

Again, thank you D-nice

it's hard to describe the picture. i find the flesh tones a bit rosy (specially HDTV material, like sitcoms). AV mode was Movie and the panel has been in use between 150 to 200 hours. It has already gone through the 150 break-in period.

Here are my original settings:

R-High: 507
G-High: 502
B-High: 500
R-Low: 500
G-Low: 500
B-Low: 500
ABL - 110 (I realize we should never adjust the ABL)

So after D-Nice settings, I am at:
R-High: 494
G-High: 502
B-High: 549
R-Low: 500
G-Low: 500
B-Low: 500

You can always try these settings to see if you like them.

What is ABL and what are the implications of changing it?

So do you now find you have the best of both worlds? Is SD in the LCD better than on the plasma?

If only I could set up two TV rooms. And get my wife off the couch when she watched 4:3.

I never view SD on my Plasma. The only SD I watch on my LCD is cspan and cspan2.

I use it in HD for fox news channel , Basketball Games( due to all the extra stuff on the screen) , any for any program that I just do not want on my 5020. The 5020 is for Movies and Scenic programs only.

You might want to verify that by having someone else call and ask if they carry that model and how much it is.

If the salesman is eager to make a sale and says they have the unit in stock, or can get it quickly, you know you're being fed a load of bull. (Which is often the case).

Ensure that your various players and cable box are sending the proper signal to the panel. How are you connected to the 6020...via a receiver? Check that it isn't processing the signal is some manner.
yeah i have connected to the 6020 via a receiver, the receiver i have select pass trough, also i connect the PC and have the same problem, the PC is connect direct to my tv, the anthena is connected to the TV Tuner and have same problem
post #9258 of 14721
Run directly to the TV panel with an HDMI cable from any of your sources, preferably the HD DVD, and set it to pass 1080i or 1080p. Select that input and see what you get. What did you mean by Athena to the TV tuner? Is your source an antennae?
ya i mean OTA antenna, I try what you say, i connect the Sony BD Player directly to the TV and still have the same problem, , i also try 2 different HDMI Cables, do you think the TV is defecting?

I just got my 5020 and it does the same thing, really only see it if you are right up on the screen, I think what you are seeing is not part of the pic at all, I can see like electrical stuff in my half inch of black or so like connections or something, hard to explain, I think that is just the way it is except mine is not half inch more like a 1/4 inch. Dun know.

No. This is the first 5020 out of about 70 that I have seen pre-cal RGB readings like that.

Actually do have a question for you, how hard is it for an ordinary guy like me that is pretty computer savy to use ControlCAL for a 5020, does not seem like too many settings for a non elite, what do you think. I take good direction as well.

Even my wife noticed a huge difference when we watched some sample Blu-Rays and she is blind as a bat. (just kidding honey) When I receive my reports I will post them.
If anyone has the chance of using D-Nice to calibrate their 5020 I strongly recommend his services. He is very professional and believe me you will NOT be disappointed at all when he is finished. He is truly a 5020 genius. He did tell me that he might start doing national tours but not starting till the summer.
Once again thank you D-Nice for leaving me a unbelievable picture which I am sure I will enjoy for many years to come.

Thank you for the kind words.

Hey Guys, just received my new 5020 last week and it is awesome. Totally blown away, and that is before doing any sort of calibration...but that is coming. Anyway, I have one issue that I did not anticipate having and I hope you all can help me sort it out. It is an audio pass through issue. I apologize in advance if this issue has been addressed elsewhere on the forum. If it has, I cannot find it so a link to it would be appreciated. Issue follows:

When I ordered the TV my plan was to run HDMI from my DTV box, Panny blu-ray, and Denon DVD with the digital optical out on the 5020 then running to my Outlaw Model 1050 AVR. My intention was to pass the DD and DTS bitstreams thrrough the 5020 to the AVR which would result in only one digital connection to my AVR, freeing up the other two for my Xbox and LD player (yes, I have an old LD player with the RF modulator). Problem is, I get nothing from the 5020 when I do this. I get sound out of the 5020 from all of my HDMI sources into the 5020 (i made sure all of my sources were passing audio), but nothing from the optical out. My AVR shows that it is receiving a signal, but it is registering PCM and pro-logic (with no sound)--not DD or DTS. I have verified that all of my sources and the 5020 are set to output bitstream and not PCM. Am I just out of luck? Is the 5020 incapable of doing what I want it to do?

As of now I have my digital outputs from my DVD, Bluray, and Sat running to the AVR and the dig outs for my Xbox and LD unplugged. Totally sucks. Any help would be appreciated.
