Connect two receivers to cable box (outdoor speaker setup)

Hi,
I currently have my home system setup (plasma connected to hd cable box via HDMI, all speakers connected to Onkyo receiver, ps3, etc). I now want to hook up some outdoor speakers, simple enough.

However my wife likes to use the music channels offered on the HD cable box for parties. I have an extra receiver which I thought I would use to power the outdoor speakers alone. So my question is, can I connect that 2nd receiver to either my current receiver or my cable box so we can listen to the cable music channels via the 2nd receiver on the outdoor speakers?

Some thoughts....
- would like ability to listen to cable music on both receivers (indoor and outdoor speakers) at same time, but also ability to listen to one or the other
- Main system is located on one side of the house and the second receiver would be placed in garage connected via speaker wire run under the house in the crawl space.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!!

Some boxes won't output analog and HDMI audio at the same time, most will, you'll have to test your box and make sure. Secondly, so I get this straight, you want to place the second reciever in the garage and have speaker wire run between there and the cable box? Seems like it would make more sense at that point to put the second reciever next to the cable box and just get an RF remote. The other option if this is possible is to run (2) runs of coax under the crawl space to the garage and terminate with RCA plugs.

The answer is very probably yes, but since we don't know what your cable box or receivers are it is hard to say what the best way will be.

Probably the best way to do would be to hook the 2nd receiver to the back of the cable box, assuming that all of it's outputs are active.

What outputs does the back of your cable box have? Does it have an analog stereo audio output?

You probably want to run shielded coax not speaker cable in your crawl space.

Thanks for the responses. So took a look at what I am dealing with and here we go....

Would like to connect my cable box (currently connected to tv via HDMI and cable box via digital coax) to a second receiver located on the other end of my house. This second receiver will have outdoor speakers connected to it only. As mentioned, would like to be able to listen to the cable music channels from my tv on the outdoor speakers.

My cable box has outputs available for RCA audio cable and Optical Toslink connections. My 2nd receiver has the same available outputs. So can/should I run a Toslink cable from my cable box to the 2nd receiver through my crawl space? Any potential issues?

- What if I have both receivers on (inside and outside speakers)?

- what if I only have one receiver on, issues?

Thanks in advance for your help on this, as I am definitely a novice compared to the people on here! Thanks!
