My room here in SoFla, (the converted garage that never was) that has hubby junk (PCs, and all that A/V stuff, you know, all the 6000+ lps, and CDs and books, and...) is the warmest room in the house, and so I put a small desk fan behind my 50A650 aimed at the left bulb...
This week waking up to the house at 65° (it's in the low 30s outside) the Sammy, PC and all the stereo gear and lights gets turned on to warm the room and me...and they do!

My fiance and I were talking about that last night. She said that in the 1800's, people would bake a potatoe and put it in the bed with them. I joked that we could turn the tv on for about 30 seconds and then use the bulb for warmth.

yes, there was not really much dust. The usb fan I made has really helped out. It hasn't shut off once with an old bulb. I am sure I will have to clean it a lot more now.

maybe I can use 2 80x25mm PC case fans one to push the air in and one to suck the air out?

that is a big one. The one I make was just one of the 80cm fans that are on most old computers. It is extremely easy to attach one of those to a usb cable. Then I put it in that black tube that runs trait to the bulb. It is really easy b/c when you cut the usb cable open, it has black and red wires, disregard the other two.

Haven't been here in a while, but with all the recent talk about 3D going mainstream, thought I'd check in.

I know my HL72A650 has 3D capabilities when connected to a PC through the HDMI3 connection, but was wondering if it would work with the 3D channels coming out later this year, without using a PC and just using my Directv DVR?

Any thoughts - or better yet - anybody with actual facts that it will or will not?

Basically, the set will turn on, then immediately turn off, then it makes a buzzing noise from the left side, comes back on, shows me picture for 3-6 seconds, then turns off, repeat forever until I unplug it from wall.

The first repair they sent a ballast, bulb, and power supply. It worked for a week and started doing the same thing.

The second repair they sent a ballast, bulb, power supply, and color wheel. This time it worked for about 3 weeks, now it's doing the same thing again. I have it plugged into a very large surge protector.

I haven't called to make a repair appointment yet, but if they send the same parts again, it's almost a guarantee it's gonna start doing the same thing.

It just happened to me again! This will be the third time it's happened. This last repair only lasted less than two months. I'm going crazy with this tv. I'd love to sell it but I would feel bad knowing it would happen again to the new owner.

2x in the past two weeks I've heard a crack, like a firecracker, or the crack of a whip from inside(?) my HL50A650....

Has anyone ever experienced that...it's kind of scary!!!!

edit:
I also have my speakers behind Sammy, so it could be a a surge through them...or...
it could be a surge through the surge protector...also behind the TV...so...I've moved the protector to the side of the TV to eliminate THAT....
and cross my fingers that nothing blows up...

I would say that about once every 4 months since we got it, we do hear a loud CRACK / POP from the TV set area. I have no idea what it is, but I have always thought it was something in the set. However, no smoking and no issues with functionality and there would be no way to reproduce.......so not worrying about it.

If anyone was wondering, the USB fan has been a huge success for me. Even with one of my older bulbs, I have experiences no shutoffs.

All you need is a usb cable and a computer fan. when you cut open the usb cable, it has red and black wires inside, connect those to the red and black wires of the fan and wrap up with electrical tape. There is a usb slot on the back of the tv. put the fan inside the tube that points at the bulb.

An 80mm fan will fit inside the tube. If you use a bigger fan, you will need to mount it externally blowing into the vent.

I have been using it for a few weeks now with a bulb that I was sure was finished.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I have been looking through this thread and have seen some issues that are similar but nothing that is the exact same.

I have a HL56A650 (ourchased 12/08), recently it has started to turn off, by that I mean the screen goes black, the sound cuts out, just like someone hit the power button...with one exception, 2 of the 3 LED's are blinking (the Left and Right LED's).

If I let it sit, nothing happens, when I press the power button it it then turns off like normal, by playing that little sound it normally does, and the LED's go off. When I push the power button again, it turns on just like normal.

This is very random, once it happened within 20 minutes (or less) of being on, other times it has been on for a few hours.

The owners manual says the lights mean that the lamp door may not be closed, I have never opened it, and thought it was an odd error anyway.

Before I jump and buy a replacement bulb I figured I would check this forum, a co-worker of mine told me about this and so far I am VERY impressed with all the info I have found.

Any advice would appreciated.

Thanks
Shimmy

I'm having a problem with my remotes (DirecTV and Harmony One) not operating the TV. The remotes are working fine with everthing else but the TV.

I thought it was just dust so I wiped down the TV and they started working again. Then a couple weeks later they quit. I pushed on the bezel around the power button and they started working again.

Has anyone else had this problem with their remote controls on the HL50A650?
Hey guys...its been a while since I've posted in this thread. I mistakenly posted in the 650/750 thread. Anyway I've had the HL50A650 for a little more than a year and a half. I still love the picture but I'm sick of the service issues I've had with it. I had a bulb replacement in December and just recently had another blow out. Well this time Samsung had to replace the ballast, power supply and another bulb. The tech said I should be good to go from here but I don't want to take the risk. Samsung has been nice enough to cover 2 services for me when I was out of warranty though. I think its time to try to sell it on Ebay or Craigslist. Anybody have any idea how much I should ask for my particular model?

Am I doing something wrong in the settings with the HL61A650 cause using the DVE Blu-ray or the AVS 709 disk I have to set the contrast to 100 to come even close to WTW and I am still a few bars away from it.

Same remote but a 50A650. Works great, but since Logitech took over Harmony TS, CS, software and the physical build of the remotes are now crap. My H1 is peeling and the touch sensitivity is all over the place. The crappy "rubberesque" over plastic coating, which can't hold up to friction wear, that they use on their mice, like on my MX Revolution which is looking like a molting snake. It has been replaced without question once I mentioned the malady. But no answer as to why such the cheap build. They are making all product lines the same why. I haven't inquired about my H1, but doubt I'll get the instantaneous results I did with the MX. Watch how you set it down. The middle ridge takes the major portion of the hits and will wear first. Along with, on mine, the left side along the seam, which I don't touch and is making no sense as to why it is wearing, where the face place plate meets the back. My point is that although they charge a ton for these they are not the be all of remotes in many ways. They still haven't fixed many issues with sending signals to my gear. They can't figure out why mine is sending two signals instead of one.

On that note, I have had several issues with programming, that in communicating with the Mothership, things get corrupt. Also the remote drops programming and if Logitech decides that your device is not longer supported, even though it's up and working great now, it'll erase it the next time you update making you have to teach it. Which many times I have found works better than the H software. I have never liked the idea that the software has to "phone home" every time I update. But if I want "cool" I have to roll with the punches. /rant

I have an HL72A650 and we were smelling something burning the other night. Then the TV started to click on and off just as the OP's set was doing.

I took the back panel off and there was brown slime running down the power board. It looks like one of the capacitors blew.

The board that is in my set currently isower supply MODEL NO: PN082DPS-VF CODE NO: BP44-01002A INPUT VOLTAGE: 100-120V 50/60Hz, 6.3A REV. 1.3

I think there is a new one out BP44-01002C

I heard this is common on these sets?

Should I get the new 2C or stick with the 2A?

Where should I buy it?
Found a 2A for $45 new.

We will see how long this one lasts......

This just happened to me again for the 4th time! I hate this tv now

Guys,

I bought my BP44-01002A power board on Ebay but you can also look on Google for it.

It took my no time to install and my TV is back up and running again with no problems.

It this power board dies in a year I'll just keep buying more. It's an easy fix.
