What are the differences between HTR and RX-V Series?

I am hoping that somebody can answer this. Right now, I'm looking at Yamaha's website with the different A/V Receivers that they offer. However, from the way things look, there are two different series that they offer. I'm rather confused as to which one does what. There's the HTR series, which seems to mean Home Theater Receiver, go figure, and then there's the RX-V, which I am wondering how that's different from the other. Anyone know the differences between what they do and features one series has over the other?

There are no major differences between the two lines. They are basically the same product marketed through different channels. Google HTR vs RX-V, there are several hits including a 4yr old thread that's 4 pages long.

Features will be dependent on the model and not the line. Their are usually comparable models from each line. The RXV and HTR series are basically the same receiver, cosmetics are the biggest difference.

Some time ago the HTR series was the more commonly found at the mass market chains and internet sales. The RXV line was reserved for the more specialty shops and not available over the internet, but that has changed in the last few years. Here's an write up on it from the Yamaha site but it's quite old. You'll have to go about 3/4 down the page to find the topic.

Ah, guess that explains that one. Thanks. I was looking at upgrading my HTR-5930 receiver to either one of these newer lines to make my home theater more up-to-date for Blu-ray and 1080p in general. I'll most likely look into an RX-V model, since it sounds like it may perform better with HD audio. The HTR line seems like it has a more narrow field of audio quality over the RX-V, we'll need to see if that holds true.
