2008 Samsung HL67A750 LED DLP owners thread - Page 36

I got this TV a month ago and I'm having issues with the video going in and out like crazy. Probably does it to me every 5 minutes or so. My firmware is 1005.3. Thats the highest I see on Samsungs website. I have everything plugged in via HDMI. Anybody else have intermittent video issues? I have the Onkyo TX-SR805 as my receiver too. It appears its the TV with the issue because after the video goes in and out I get that little box in the top left corner telling me what source is on. Any ideas?

If all your HDMI cables go through your receiver and then to a single input on the TV I would try a different TV input and also try bypassing the receiver and going directly to the TV as a test. If neither of those help, call Samsung. There is some confusion over the firmware numbers. That may not be actually the newest firmware but don't upgrade without speaking to Samsung support first.

What exactly occurs when the tv "goes out"? I am wondering if you have an HDMI issue of some sort.

I'm watching TV and the sound and video will go out for a split second. The sound comes back before the video does. Then the large rectangular box in the upper left corner that comes up when you turn on the TV shows up and tells me the hdmi source I'm using.

I will probably try a different HDMI input on my receiver to see if that matters. I don't recall having this issue when watching blu-ray movies.

If that fails I will bypass the receiver alltogether so I can eliminate the receiver from being the problem. I just wanted to see if anybody else had an issue like this before I dug deeper.

Open a new (big river) account w/ a new email using your real name.

search for " samsung 67 "

down the page for the TV a bit you will see "Buy This Product and Related Accessories" click on the 5 yr samsung service plan.

On the page for the 5 yr plan go to "Rate This Item to Improve Your Recommendations" then click "I own it."

Go back to the top of the page and click on the gold box.

down the page you will see "(your name) Quick Picks"

If the HL67a750 is listed the price should be $1681 click on it and buy it.

If not sign out of the site and check your gold box again later. Do not browse around while you are signed in with the new account. My came up 4-5 hours later. Some say the next day.

Items only stay in your gold box for a few hours from what I understand.

When you say 'open a new Big River account', do you mean a credit account or just a log in account to buy stuff?

What input on the Samsung are you using? When paired with the Denon 4308CI, I had problems with hand-shaking with Samsung's HDMI input 1, while HDMI input 2 worked perfect. Very weird, but it worked.

Just a log in account. You can use the same credit card, shipping address, phone number, etc. You'll just need a different email address since that is what they use in place of a username.

The new account works perfectly. I had an existing sign-on with them and over several days I couldn't get the HL67A750 to show up in my Gold Box. I created a new account as instructed in this thread and followed the "own it" recommendations and sure enough, instant addition of the tv with an additional 5% discount. NICE!

Only thing to do now is return the one I bought from CC last week. Estimated Ship date from big river is today or tomorrow, should have it early next week!

Glad the goldbox is working out for everyone.

My 67 arrives tomorrow.

If anyone is looking for a wood cabinet type stand, I ordered the Tech Craft ABS60 from sears.com for $260 shipped/tax. It is only available online. They gave me 10% off for buying a TV from them (which I never did.) Big river sells it for $323 shipped. Racks&stands $303 shipped.

What are the dimensions of that unit? It looks too tall for the 67" in the picture (unless you have very tall seating)...

That's a change from earlier in the week. Thanks for the update. Good thing is I kept the giant box and have everything else they require, so should be no problem.

I returned mine with only the base part of the box because when I drove the TV home after buying it wouldn't fit in my van with the top part of the box on. At that time they told me the box wasn't required to return. Of course things do change but I suspect the policy will vary from store to store. When I inquired about returning the TV the main thing they seemed focused on was the accessories (remote + power cord).

But in any case I agree you should be fine. Just drive carefully and get it there undamaged. I had my teen son in the back of the van to brace it just in case something unexpected happened while driving.

I did a quick google and found this ...

Dimensions: 23 3/4" H x 59 3/4" W x 23 1/2" D

http://www.racksandstands.com/Tech-C...ml#ProdDetails

That is a bit on the tall side. My stand is 19" tall for comparison.

I think that's way too tall for a 67 (depending again on his seating). I'm having my stand built at 16". I was intending to build it at 15", but I have the TV on a 16" coffee table at the moment and it seems perfect, so I altered the height with the builder.

Of course he may have tall seating or the TV may be in a living room with a sunken area and the seats are on the main level, etc.

Hi there,

Just ordered mine from big river, and have a quick question. Do you know the height from the bottom of the base to the bottom of the screen? I have to come up with a stand. I might just do something temporary so I can try different heights. I'll be doing a seating arrangement with the first row being a sofa (eventually theater recliners) and a bar behind that. So I was thinking I might want to go slightly higher than would be typical for just sofa seating.

Side note, stopped by CC today, just to look at the set again. On sale for 2159 only about 500 more than big river, + tax on top of that, and all sales final, no returns. Liquidation sale, yeah right...

Thanks

Just about all the blogs discussing the CC liquidation have the same thing to say..."move along folks, there's nothing to see here..."

You'd never know it based on the mobs of people in the store picking up all the "bargains".

Yes, they hand out a big red vinyl "L" to them on the way out, to wear on their foreheads.

That is a bit on the tall side. My stand is 19" tall for comparison.

Here is a pic of my present setup, w/ an optoma 65". I always thought it was too low when sitting on the couch. When laying down its about right.

With the tech craft stand at 24" and the 67" TV is 20" at half way. That will put the middle of the new 67" tv at 44". That is approx at the highest glass shelf (besides for the top shelf) The top of the TV will be as high as the top of where the center channel is right now.

So the center channel would have to be moved below the TV onto the stand, which unless I modify the stand, it will not fit as its 23" wide as it sits.

I called Sears and canceled the stand.

I need a stand with a height of 18-19". That way the top of the TV would be even with the top of the towers.

Ranger, Which stand do you have?

Mine should be delivered tomorrow or Monday. Ordered the ideal-lume and am having a custom stand made at 20" high. I hope that is the right height.

Big River just had another price drop. I called and got a credit from my Monday order. Just be polite and it shouldn't be a problem.

Also for everyone who has been asking, they told me it would be $60 to ship it back from NYC during the 30 days if I decided not to keep it. sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Which method did you use to contact Amazon? I just tried where they call you back and got shot down. I was very nice and even said please. The price has dropped $70 since I ordered it 5 days ago.

Sorry I should have mentioned that I had it custom made. Here's a pic. The simple design with open front & back is intentional for good ventilation.

Nice! How much did it cost you to have something like that made. PM me if you prefer.

I think it was about $300 from a local furniture store that has local builders for all their furniture. I drew up basic plans, selected the wood and stain and they did the rest. That cabinet on the left of the TV is also from them but that was a separate purchase
post #1078 of 2675
Bottom of base to bottom of screen about 7.25"
My stand is Omnimount G362, one shelf, black glass and metal, about 15" high.
Puts the center of screen at about 38.5". Perfect for my recliner.

This set replaced my Phillips 64inch rear projection crt mammoth. That was a great tv...still a great tv...the only reason I wanted a new one was for (looking over my shoulder to see if my wife is around....shhhh).....was for my PS3 player. My old set had only one component in for HDTV input and could only handle 720p and since my yamaha receiver is a tad old with no HDMI inputs I was looking for a tv that could handle almost anything I could throw at it.

The sammy 67A750 was the right choice. I have it mounted on a 17 inch stand (omnimount Echo purchased through the Nile's big brother) and is the perfect height for my viewing distance.

This tv is bigger in size yet smaller in footprint and I'm still getting used to that fact because it just seems smaller...I wished they made their 72 inch in the LED but I'll just have to live with it....oh woe is me.

It was out of the box and up and running in under 5 minutes. I used the recommended displayed settings in the FAQ and for the time being I'm happy with the results...I'll do a little tweaking here and there once I pull out my AV setup disc.

HDTV looks amazing but you all knew that....SD is so so but what would you expect Though I do have a ground loop problem that I'll try to work this evening....only through the cable box...I have the horizontal scrolling lines...very faint but I noticed them right away.

Connection to the PS3 was a snap and here too I used the component cables since that's what I ordered with the PS3. Blue Ray's look fantastic and I watched a bit of Surf's Up...just spectacular...I swear i felt splashed from the waves.

I put in Assassins Creed...put it this way...when my wife walked in she asked what movie I was watching....I told her it was a video game....she sat on the couch and basically had her jaw on the floor the whole time.

I got my set through vanns...and they honored the price drop from last week...rebate already back on my card. I couldn't be happier....also went through fat wallet and gained an extra 1.5% off...plus the sammy NFLshop $200.00 gift certificate which I thought I'd get an eagles jersey but we all know how that ended up this year..

I'm really looking forward to seeing some HDTV hockey on this bad boy...the boys in orange and black will look so great in the playoffs I might not even have to go to any games.

If you are on the fence....my suggestion is...jump...jump now.

Congrats Saucerman!

Our 67 came this am. We have it sitting on a 17.5 tall 48" wide coffee table for now. That height seems to be prefect for matching up to the towers that you can see in the above pic.

When playing wii bowling there seems to be a vertical sweet spot. The screen does appear to be dim when you stand up from a distance of 10'. When sitting on the couch its 12.5' from the screen everything looks great.

Back to hooking everything else up including PS3 that was in the bedroom with the LN46a650.
