2008 Samsung HL67A750 LED DLP owners thread - Page 8

Hi everyone,

I just got mine on Friday through Amazon/Vanns for $1899 delivered (Fedex). Wow - it is VERY cool. I have directv (HR22) but they haven't come out yet to upgrade my dish, so I have standard def until tomorrow night.

I have a question - there was a warning in the literature I recieved with the TV warning against direct or reflected sunlight causing "white spots" and how that "was not damage". I forget the exact wording. Did anyone else see that and if so, what are they getting at? Can sunlight damage the screen itself? That would have been nice to know before I bought it since in the fall I can get morning reflected and evening direct (through blinds).

Meanwhile, I maxed the brightness to minimize the effect. It took about 20 min to swap out the board and that fixed it. I asked the tech if they've had similar repairs. He said that there isn't much quality assurance at the fab (Made in Mexico) and there's a lot of units that go out with bad guts.

Are these made anywhere besides Mexico or is that the only plant?

There is no anchor point, and IMHO no need.

You could always drill a screws thru the base into your stand.

All the weight is in the bottom of the TV. The stand has rubber foot pads and it weighs 70+ lbs (depending on 61 or 67").

It's not going to slide, move or fall over without taking a fullbody tackle.

You should read it a little more carefully. All it says is that if direct light is shining into the screen you will see a reflection. Nothing will be damaged. I don't think it used the word damage at all. I believe (from 5 months ago for me) it said this is not a defect (the reflection).

I hadn't heard of lip sync issues before, do you have to adjust the delay on a receiver for every movie or is it a one time adjustment that fixes the issue for everything?

Really? I mean REALLY?

After the 1000's of posts thru this forum on people loving this set, one person post on problems that I would put a $100 bill on is all caused by crap HDMI cable with his DVD player, and you are scared about this set?

The audio/video sync is an issue that is usually adjusted by the source (my DVD and blue-ray players all have the adjustment) or in the A/V amp.

When i disconnect the HDMI output at the HR22, the 67a750 will not allow me to change to just scan. It is still grayed out. Will the just scan setting correct the blurryness?

SSE isn't usually that obvious. Someone would have to be really sensitive to it notice as much as Stefski is saying.

I had a 13 year old 60" RP Pioneer Elite and it is amazing how much better this picture is. I didn't go plasma because my viewing room has a lot of windows facing the TV. The old Pioneer had some reflection problems during the day but this beauty hardly reflects anything.

I feel fortunate that this set hasn't had any of the problems others have described. If I had some of the issues described above the set would be on its way back to the store.

One thing I noted is that when watching a SD football game that the close camera shots were very clear, but when the camera pulled back to view the the teams on the line and during the play (most of the picture time) things look blurry. Do I have a setting incorrect that causes this blurryness? I had the set set on Standard mode,16:9. The Just Scan setting is greyed out. Would Just Scan solve this problem? If so what setting needs to change to allow Just Scan to be selected? Thanks for any help!

It is likely the fact that they use high-quality cameras for the closeup shots and crappier cameras for the wide shots. You can pick up the same thing in a NASCAR race, as well as some movies. They'll use great cameras for closep shots of people but poor cameras for wide establishing shots.

I just noticed the BestBuy.com price is $1999 and the stores will honor the web price. This is a recent $200 price drop.
dang it! keep dropping. I have some time left on my price match from CC and need it to drop below 1839 . It was 1849 at amazon a few days ago but unfortunately CC is not going to PM amazon .

CORRECTION: The Tech has a thick accent. He was saying "lead" but, the paperwork stated LED. So it was the LED driver, parts # BP94-02327A, that was replaced.

I don't remember where but someone in this tread, or the 61" tread, stated that they shipped this model overseas. I was told by Sammy that my set was from Mexico. I know there's a big plant in Tijuana near the border.

Last week I asked about standing the 67 on its side(still boxed) for moving purposes to get around a 90 degree corner.....

Well, we did it. Had to carry this badboy up a flight of stairs, stand it on its end lengthwise then up a short flight of stairs on end. Very worried, but got it unboxed and it played flawlessly. I did have to push in the top left corner of the screen a tad, but not a biggie.

Measured the geometry and at multiple points on all sides it is within 1/16-1/8 of an inch..way within specs. I could push on the frame bezel and correct it to absolute perfection, but I can't see 1/8" at 10', lmao.

Got a Comcast HD box and Panasonic BD-35 running to my Yamaha RX-V663 via monoprice HDMI and HDMI out to the 67. HD BLISS-All is working correctly. The Sammy remote even autodetected the BD35 via Anynet+ and controlled all its basic functions with ease! SWEET!!!!!!!! Played several DVD's with no issues, now I gotta go buy a BD movie, lol.

Only problem is I still need to get a Harmony One? remote to run everything so the wife and kids can operate the system without screwing it up.

What about when you use the P-SIZE button on the remote? It should bring up a window with the current settings, keep pressing the P-SIZE button to change it.

Are you using any of the Entertainment modes? You may have to turn that off to adjust the Picture Size, since those modes can lock out settings. See page 68 in your manual.

Tijuana? That explains a lot. I usually have convergence issues after I visit Tijuana. But I'm sure it makes some cents (sic) since the going wage there is around 50 pesos per day.

Thanks Lee. I did more research and learned that the just scan capability is not an option with 420 (?) input to the TV. I discovered that using the P-Size button is the best and quickest way to determine when Just Scan is available based in the resolution of the input signal. Thanks again for the assistance. I've got a lot to learn!!

Hey,

Thanks for some of the tips....and I have been doing some more testing.
The wife was out at the weekend, looking at horses, and took my Panasonic DV video camera to record them.
So - back she comes and wants to watch it on the big screen. I hook up the camera from its "dv" out - which basically terminates in an "s" video connection with l/r audio on rca phonos. I hook this up to the TV - no sparklies, no lines...picture is great.

hhhmm - (I thought) - so back to the movies I go.
!st up - "Battle of the Bulge" region2 special edition - TOTALLY unwatchable! Picture jerks, lines and sparklies!

Daredevil - region 2 - absolutely perfect! No problems, fantastic picture... no issues whatsoever.

I am starting to think maybe it is the cable (I have the one that came with the player) - but I am still wondering if the modding to make it universal maybe mucked up something with the outputs on the Hdmi side?

I am going to take the suggestion on trying the composite cable and see if that makes any difference ... as well as buying a better Hdmi cable... as I have been told by numerous people now that a good/decent cable CAN make a huge difference with the quality of the image.

Failing that- may be I have a faulty input section on the sammy? Hope it is not that as I love this set...even though at the moment I can only watch a select few dvd's

Has anyone else found that a better hdmi cable makes a difference?

Cheers

Stefski

Post some more pictures of content on this TV. I am debating between this TV and a 73" Mistu Diamond Series TV.

Yes I am looking at that one...the earlier mentioned CC sale appears to be no more, it's back to 2399 I think. BB is 1999 but the store tags still have it at 2399, plus local BB don't have any in stock per the web, although I know there is one on the floor. Amazon jumped back up to just over 2k I think yesterday or today. HHG lists them at 1988, If they have it in stock it may wind up at my house very soon. Might throw the conns.com price at them and see if they blink...

Also ebay/paypal has a 10% coupon up to $100 off, but I'm leery of the ebay route on this big of a purchase...there is one for 1895 BIN so apply the coupon that's 1795 no tax no shipping, but the wait... .

I'm hoping to go into a local, pick a set, get a deal on an ext warranty, maybe pickup a stand and a PS3...maybe they will deal a bit more since I am getting multiple items...And it's a new store so hoping they want to pump up sales, etc...

Received mine today. That is a huge box!!!! I am so glad I got the 67. I was worried it would be to big but is perfect. Also noticed the convergence of the white when looking at it upclose but don't bother me from 10 feet away.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm from Montreal, Canada and there is only ONE store that sells those... And the signal there is AWEFUL. I mean, I wouldn't buy this TV based on what it looks like in store.

You guys convinced me of placing my order. Should have it shortly!

30 degrees of vertical from 10 feet away allows ~5.8 feet of vertical freedom in either direction from center, which should be plenty for those who watch TV from, say, furniture (as opposed to floors and ladders, I guess).

Specs aside, I've been very pleased with this set, and have had no issues with viewing angle. In my experience, the man is the only one who's really concerned with an optimum viewing experience, so I just make sure I grab the best spot and let others sit elsewhere. Surround sound already pretty much dictates that one not sit too far off angle, so viewing angle is hardly an issue in my book.

I too have a new DirecTV HR-22 DVR that today received their latest software update (0x290) with support for 1080P24. Does this Samsung HL67A750 support this type of 1080P? I apologize if this has been discussed before. Did a quick review here and on the Samsung Web Site and did not see it. Plan to purchase this set within one month. THANKS!

Been fairly happy with mine so far. Had issues getting CC to price match. I think all said and done they've knocked the T.V. down to around 1900 before tax. I'm satisfied with that.

For the most part the picture is great. Rarely ever notice the rainbow effect. Usually only when I get momentarily distracted. As long as I'm zoned out watching a movie it won't affect me.

One thing that is bugging me is that on the left around certain objects the red looks bit off, same with blue on the right. For example: The side of a person's face might have a blue outline on the right.

Should I call Samsung to see if they can fix it? Is this a common issue? I saw someone else mention it but they said they don't see it from a distance. I see it from 13 feet away. It always red on the left blue on the right. I was watching the Fantastic 4 on HBO last night and it was getting pretty annoying. Also saw it when the wife was watching What Not To Wear on TLC. This woman had a red line down the left of her cleavage and blue on the right. It appears most noticable against black.

I finally bit the bullet and purchased the HL67A750. I must say I love it. My last tv was a 51inch Hitachi Ultravision, 2004 model. While the blacks are as good as my old Hitachi, the tv is amazing, the color is great, no major geometry issues, and HD channels on Dish Network look amazing.

My new Sammy is being delivered next Friday from Amazon. New Bush stand in place and cables in hand. I also ordered a Phillips 1080P up converting DVD player. What is the consensus for hook ups between HDMI and component ? My cable box is Time Warner with HDMI and my DVD player as well. Anyone use the component inputs and let the set up convert and compare picture quality?
