Wal-Mart throws in $100 gift card with Blu-ray player purchase - Page 6

Live here in North Dakota. After working from 8am to 9.30 pm went to the bar for a couple of beers then went to WM. They had two. If they would have had 3 I would of got one. Nuff said on that. If I would of have one less beer I would have got one. I am off thurs. so I will try bb by getting there a little early. The 2 walmart people DID get the $100 gc. If I get one at bb I am pretty sure they will match the gc. The gm of the store says I am one of the better customers in the store.
yeah i got there 10pm and was 1st. one other lady (a walmart employee off duty, no less) was 2nd and she got there around 11:30.

they only had 4. i asked if i could buy the other 2. he would only let me buy 1. i waited a few minutes after midnight and somebody called and he held it for him until he got there 5 minutes later and bought it.

5 minutes later he let my buy a 2nd one. it's now on ebay. hopefully it will help me pay off the one i'd like to keep.

cash register added the $100 gc automatically to each.

Anyone know how much Wal-Mart's Extended Warranty is & how long it is for the Playstation? Thanks.

Since the 80GB Metalstorm bundle is under $500 - i.e., $499.99 - it's $28.88 or so (versus $58.00 for $500+). Wal-Mart's extended warranty adds 2 years beyond the manufacturer's labor warranty (up to 3 years total).

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5640647

(The in-store price last night was $28 something, not $32.)

I guess there is a 3-year one - don't know if I can go back and get that in-store or not, for $50 or so:

Wal-Mart Product Care Service Plan

Service Plan
2 and 3 Year Service Plans provide an additional 2 or 3 years of product protection beyond the manufacturer's labor warranty.

LIMITED HARDWARE WARRANTY AND LIABILITY FOR THE PLAYSTATION®3 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Sony Computer Entertainment America ("SCEA") warrants to the original purchaser that the PS3TM hardware shall be free from material defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the original date of purchase (the "Warranty Period"). If the product is determined to be materially defective during the Warranty Period, your sole remedy and SCEA's sole and exclusive liability shall be limited to the repair or replacement of this product with a new or refurbished product at SCEA's option. For purpose of this Limited Hardware Warranty and Liability, "refurbished" means a product that has been returned to its original specifications. Visit www.us.playstation.com or call 1-800-345-7669 for instructions on how to deliver the product, freight prepaid, to an authorized service facility.

Since labor isn't differentiated from parts, I assume it's parts and labor for 1 year. Hence, the Wal-Mart extended warranty kicks in after the first year, and is good for years 2 and 3. I bought it, but may or may not keep it, since my American Express card adds 1 year to the manufacturer's warranty. I.e., do I want 2 years' of coverage, or 3?

I addition, last night and this morning the Walmart associates told me that I have 90 days after my PS3 purchase to decide if I want to add the Walmart extended warranty.

Thanks Guys, And for $30 I Think I'll grab it because the Playstation is a gift for my daughter who lives in another state so then I won't worry about it if something goes wrong because it will be covered. She will be using it mostly for Blu-Ray Movies & every once in awhile a game or two. Thanks Again.

I went to the Niles, IL Walmart at 8am and they were out of stock. They only had 4 when they opened at 7am and were gone within 5 minutes. The Best Buy across the street opened at 10am, and had 10-15 in stock when walked in. However Best Buy DIDNOT match the Walmart $100 GC offer. The BB manager said that they only price match, if the competitor have it in stock (never heard that before). The BB manager also claimed that Walmart wasnt offering the $100 GC on the 80gb PS3. He supposedly called 2 Walmart to confirm it!!!!!

You can easily tell if a BB manager is lying - his or her lips are moving.

Check the Blu Ray deals thread. Others have reported getting the gift card from BB with their PS3 purchase.

I'd trust forum members far more than a BB employee.

Guy #1 arrived at 11:00 AM, guy #2 at 5:30 PM, guy #4 about 8 PM.

Set up tomorrow (i.e., today, since it's after midnight).

I don't understand. Since you were #3 and 4 units were available, why did you have to settle in for a long night instead of buying it right away??

I can confirm that they are giving out the $100 gift card with the PS3 MGS4 bundle pack (Bought one this morning). The card rang up automatically too, so it's definitely recognized by their system as being a valid product to receive the promotion.

Their computer would not let it go through as a sale before 12:01 a.m. on 6/12/08. According to one guy, the computer is hooked to a system that transmits the sales information, and if Sony sees that it was sold before midnight - i.e., before 6/12/08 - it's a $1,000 fine or something like that. They didn't even bring out the 2 80GB bundle shipping boxes (two units per shipping box), nor the separately-available Metalgear Storm 4 (?) games/discs, until about 11:45 p.m.

Ratondrguano i wold call the best buy corporation and complain ,maybe they'll send you the $100.00 gift card.

I bought an 80gig PS3 bundle this AM on the Walmart website. It did not mention the $100 GC anywhere, so I called them. The rep was very positive that I would get the $100 GC automatically, and said thay are making corrections to fix it not showing up.

I bought a Samsung 1500 from Walmart in Ohio on 5/13- paid $348. I went back to the store and the price went up to $388 and they told me in order to get the gift card I would have to bring in the player- take it back and re-purchase it, but it would be at the $388 price Forget it now- not worth the time and extra $$ for gas.

He is not only lying he is also lazy, He does not want to put up extra work for giving you a giftcard. I feel yeah, But in our BB area their customer service is excellent.

Thinking of getting a bluray player. Should I get a Samsung 1500 or a PS3. Only used for movies.

Picked up a Magnavox player, $288 or so and $100 GC included.

I had to make a CSR scan it to make sure it would prompt for a GC, the CDRs didn't know, and the flyer didn't have a pic of the Magnavox.

The system did prompt for a GC, so all was good, so there's a sub-$200 blu-ray player for ya.

Same here. Bought the 80GB combo unit this morning, then returned the 40GB unit I bought there a few days ago.

Now I just need to sell the MGS4 game since my wife won't allow it in the house (we have a 5 year old son). What do you guys think is a fair price for this game, unopened?

Thanks!

Did you guys have the Wal-Mart ad with you? Or did you just go in and speak to a manager about it?

The Best Buy on Hwy 121 and I-35E in Lewisville, TX, had 6 of the 80GB bundles when I stopped there tonight at 6 pm. $499.99, but don't know if they'll match the $100 GC.

But if you didn't get the PS3 last night, they're obviously still available.

Right, but for the people who got Best Buy to match the $100 GC...did you bring in the Wal-Mart ad detailing the offer, or did you just mention it to the manager and they already knew?

Best Buy makes me mad. Wife got me the Sony from BB for my bday. She didn't know about the deal so I took it back to get them to match it. Orland Park Il BB the manager said ok and then the customer service girl looked it up on the website and decided against it. So i got my refund went acros the street to walmart and got the same Sony for $12 less and they handed me a $100 gift card that I could use on anything.
BB in Mundelein, IL price matched Walmart with no ad in hand on the 80GB bundle. Got the last one at 6:00 PM though. Said Walmart had to have one in stock, but they did not call when I checked out. Piece of cake.
I DID have the Walmart ad with me. However the BB manager insisted that the Walmart offer was only valid on the 40Gb version of the PS3. Amazing the inconsistencies between stores!!! I'll probably try to go to a different BB store with my receipt and Walmart ad and have them match it.

BB managers are probably responsible for profit in some way. If they can bs customers and save some $, it must serve them in some way.

I have a BB right down the street from my house and use them strictly for getting the look and feel of products I might be interested in buying.

When one of the friendly sales droids drops by (which is about every 3 minutes) I always tell them that I wouldn't consider actually buying anything from them. When they ask why, I'm honest in telling them their prices suck and their customer service doesn't meet my expectation.

After that, they generally leave me alone (probably muttering some unflattering comments under their breath).

I have to admit though that the store is always busy. There is a CC store a couple of blocks away and they rarely have any traffic in their store. Must be plenty of people that really think these guys know their stuff and that they are getting a Best Buy.

Sad.

Heh, I do the same thing at Best Buy...in fact, the only reason I bought my TV from them (Samsung HLT6187s 61" 1080p LED DLP) is because I went in to check it out and a manager came over to ask me about it.

I mentioned how much I like it and think it has an awesmoe picture but that I'd be getting it on Amazon. Just wanted to check it out in person first. He asked why and I asked if they'd price match. I told him it was $1900 on Amazon with free shipping and no tax, but I'd have to wait a bit to get it. It was marked at $2599.99. He went to a computer, did some number crunching and came back saying he'd give it to me for $1999.99 if I took it right there.

I couldn't say no.

Otherwise, no...I'd never buy from them unless it was a super-sale (such as my Westinghouse LTV32w6 that I got for about $540 because it was on sale and I used a 12% RZ coupon on it too sice the cashier was brand new and didn't know those coupons don't count on sale items. ).

Hehe... well for those in the Northern Virginia area I can tell you this:

Best Buy in McLean/Tysons has a bunch of Sammy 1500's, and they will price match Wal Mart @ $349, including the gift card, if you bring in a printout of the web site ad.

I'll also mention: Wal Mart in Dulles/Sterling had ONE 1500 returned to them today at about 5pm. I happen to know that even though it was opened to inspect it's contents upon return, it was previously unopened and unused, and was in fact brand new. Actaully it was only in a car for the 20 minutes it took to drive between McLean and Dulles...

They've been out of stock since I bought the last one in mid-May, so if you hurry you might get it, although you may have to get them to sort thru their returns...
Will this work? Can you get a ps3 and then get your gift card. Then go to another store and do it again and get another gift card and so on. Then take the ps3's back and get you money back. If you do this 4 times you get a free ps3, correct?

Good to know. The only problem with that is you have to get the BS BB card , the opportunity to use it rare compared to wally world. Wally card is like actual cash
