Deal Alert !! PS3 40G for $299 at Walmart and Bestbuy

Thread Starter
Looks like Walmart will offer 100 Gift Card with the purchase of any BluRay player. That shuold bring the PS3 40G to $299. Best buy will match the offer. If you were on the fence this a nice deal.

Edit: I did not see the other thread with the same special for the previous week. So it looks like they extended the sale to 6/14.Mods please delete thread.

I'm sorry this deal does not lower the price of the PS3. You cannot apply the $100 giftcard towards the purchase of the PS3. You pay out of pocket $400 plus tax. Plain and simple.
However the GC effectively gives you $100 discount off the purchase of specifically Blu-ray discs.
AKA $100 bucks off blurays.
Thanks anyhow for the heads up.

If BestBuy price matches will they just give you a normal gift card that can be used on games or whatever?

You'll have to talk to a manager to get them to match the deal. Also it is dependent on whether your local Walmart has it in stock. Plus you have to hope the manager will match it because, as someone posted elsewhere, BB will not pro-actively or match this deal because it does not really fall under their price match policy.
If they do most likely it will simply be a normal gift card.
Good Luck!

My brother bought the 40 gb from walmart and they gave him a $100 gift card to spend on anything in the store. It isn't just for blu rays. However, YMMV. I would think though that this is probably a universal sale policy.

Most BB should do it if local Walmarts have them in. It was on their intranet site and store memos to match it this past weekend (at least the current June 1-7 deal; not sure about next weeks BluRay deal).

Wal-Mart sells gas?

Damn, with a $100 gift card, and current gas prices, you're lucky to get 1 1/2 tanks out of it
post #9 of 36
I was going to say your still spending $399, just getting something else small for free.(still a very good deal)
I had 'NO' idea Walmart sells gas though?

You're pretty much getting the PS3 for $299 because they have everything you are going to buy already (paper towels, toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, etc) -- it's not like you're going to have to buy stuff you wouldn't already buy with your other cash.

the super walmart stores sell gas and everything else under the sun

This is what more people need to realize. If you use that $100 GC towards consumables and foods that you would have to buy anyway, then you are in essence saving $100. It's all about being smart and using it on things you have to buy.

No. Assuming you are buying the ps3 by itself w/o the GC promotion then buy $100 dollars worth of stuff on top of it that equals $500. With the GC you break even and again the PS3 is $400 dollars but you saved a 100 bucks on your other purchases.
Of course I'm not a math major so I could be wrong but it seems disingenuous to say it comes out as $300.
With the Sony CC on their website that does work out to be a $100 dollars off the $400.
Best Regards KvE

It doesn't matter how you split it, it's still $500 worth of goods for $400 in cash. Works out to the same as the Sony deal. Take the extra $100 from Sony and buy food and you have same thing.

Late! I posted this first, then some other guy posted it... How many more threads do we need

A friend of mine was saying that if you sell a gift card to a very popular merchant on Ebay, you'll get nearly 90 percent of the gift card's value back. The reason being, that people with extra $$$ in their paypal account will buy it, because paypal has monthly withdrawl limits, and this is one way to circumvent their monthly withdrawl limits.

I don't have personal experience with this, and haven't actually tried selling a gift card on Ebay, so YMMV.

it may be possible to pay a credit card bill with the gift card.

eg. buy at walmart with a walmart credit card. Pay your balance with the received gift card.

At least that's what i would do.

Buy the ps3. Get the card. Return the ps3. Use card to rebuy ps3 or just keep card altogether? Wonder how this will play out.

When returning the PS3 they will most likely deduct the amount of the gift card ($100). So it's not like you're getting a free gift card, more like $100 off the PS3.

I bought the 40Gig at bestBuy getting the $100 Gift Card WalMart match.

I plan on using the $100 for Christmas gifts, justifying this as a $299 machine!

Great Deal!

look at it like this - at the end of the day, your wallet is still going to be $400 lighter no matter how you spin it. just because you're getting 100 wally bucks doesn't mean you're getting a deal, jut a fantastic bonus gift w/ purchase of an msrp ps3.
as someone pointed out earlier... you're getting $500 worth of stuff for $400, NOT $400 worth of stuff for $300!
now if it was a $100 rebate, different story, but since it's a GC, not cash, you're not saving a thing, just getting something extra.

that's all. happy shopping.

unless you ebay it and in about 30 seconds some of the people that buy walmart GC will drop 96-97 $$ right into your paypal account for it. there is your approx. $90 discount anyway.
