Don't worry about this, I do not have this issue and I would imagine that if everyone was using a high quality HDMI cable they would not have that issue either.

Found the 46Z4100 at the Sonystyle store in my local mall, they had two left after I got mine but I don't know if that included the display model - they were offering a free five year warrantee and a 30 day price gaurantee

my W4100 will arrive in two days and of the many common problems associated with LCD tvs, this "sparkle" anomaly will be the least of my worries. for me, clouds, flashlights, banding, haze, dead pixels, etc. are 10 times more annoying. you can never find a set that's perfect in every possible way

Green blob, purple haze, sparkles, phosphur trails, mura...all of the different defects of flat panel tvs make for a pretty diverse marijuana selection

I believe I'm using a cheap MonoPrice HDMI cable. I'll try a different cable and do some additional testing later on... hopefully tonight.

I'm pretty sure motionflow was off when I played Rock Band. I did notice some weird video stutter during the beginning of Green Grass and High Tides. It lasted about 2 seconds and then everything was fine after that. I don't know if it was a PS3 or TV glitch. It only happened once.

I'm using the HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Silver-Plated Copper CL2 Rated monoprice cables with no issues.

What kind of power protection are you guys running? I went ahead and ordered a Monster Power Connector that has power conditioning and surge protection. The power conditioning sounds like it will take care of that sparkling issue.
The effectiveness of consumer power conditioners has not been well established. I don't want to start anything off-topic but keep your receipt.

Just keep holding your breath. If you do it long enough they'll go away.

naaa, im just a gadget freak! I want the new stuff! i seen the 650 in person and compare to da w4100. Its true, the 650 is more colorful when it comes to PQ. Thats y i wanted to see if the Z had more POP when it came to color like the 650! But dont get me wrong the w4100 is a nice tv!

could you try it with the fake frame effect on and check if it stutters? When I had my 32xbr4 it stuttered like crazy with the smooth frame interpolation.
hm this sparkle thing has me worried, how hard is it to make a lcd without sparkle, samsung has no sparkle and its cheaper, i don't get it. Anyways we need more confirmation of Z series sparkle.
i think lcd's have enough problems that consumers already need to put up with. These unique to each generation added on flaws are just dumb.

Whats the price range on this cable?
I picked up a 40z4100 today.

I'll add some picture tomorrow, and I'm keeping a Very sharp eye on this 'sparkle'

So far I'm very impressed with the TV. I booted up GT5p on the PS3 and said 'OH GOD THE LAG' but game mode made that all better

I'm still trying to find good picture settings, right now I'm trying a few known good ones from the w4100.

If it was the cable, would I not be getting these sparkles all over the screen and not just the top 4 to 6 inches?
I am still new to the HDTV HDMI stuff.

Alright mr.ubercableguy.)

For us PC users we need a DVI-HDMI cable or a DVI adapter.

Is there such a beast as a 1.3a CL2 Certified DVI-HDMI cable? i could not find one on Monoprice.

If not would using a high quality DVI adapter on a 1.3a hdmi cable work?

Settings I like: (I've got experience in this area, but also have unique image tastes...)

Backlight: 6
Picture: 95
Brightness: 70
Color: 55
Hue: 0
Color Temperature: Neutral
Sharpness: 4
Noise Reduction: Off (Anyone see a benefit with this? Doesn't seen to help on SD content)

Black Corrector: Low
Advanced CE: Low or Off
Gamma: Low
Clear White: Low
Color Space: Wide
Live Color: Low

Soap, you want to post your settings you had the other forum member help you with?

I suggest that you call monoprice on the phone (Pacific Time) and ask them about the specific cable you need, or about an adapter.

I don't recall at the moment but I don't believe it was more than $9 for the 6ft cable.

oo so its a connectivity issue?? the HDMI must be slightly loose or something in the back when plugged in..but as long as its not the TV and its the source thats can always be dealt with becasue im really debating on just purchasing the Z blind eyed and hoping its a good one. i like the 650 but ive had bad luck with sammy so osny is the only other brand i like but i worry bout mura clouding and especially smearing which are all teh things that plagued the xbr4

That is just my own personal opinion on the matter.

The lower the awg number the less chance of sparkles, use 24 as a minimum.

At CC yesterday, I spent an hour with a 46W4100 and a 46XBR4 side-by-side, with the same input source. I went through all the settings and could not get the depth of color on the W anywhere close to that of the XBR. I'm hoping the Z will bridge that gap while doing away with some of the motion issues of the XBR4.

Saying they "plagued" the XBR4 is a gross exaggeration.

I couldn't be more happier with the set, I haven't played any games on it as I really don't have any for the PS3. I mainly bought it for Blu-ray and HD content. I have NO regrets with this purchase, I only wish the Z series with it's ultra small bezel had come in a 52inch model.
