I can't post anything on this thread, so I was wondering if anybody has reviewed or seen the new Band of Brothers on Blu Ray? I would really like to to see how well it improved over the DVD set that so many enjoyed.

I just got it today but I haven't opened it.

Thanks

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but which Incredible Hulk are we talking about? I think there's been 3.

Greetings,

I picked up The Incredible Hulk and watched it over the weekend. Definitely reference quality. I will pick up HB II at some point as well. Right now I am pretty busy with coverage for the studios that I handle. Unfortunately Universal, who released both of these films has not been responsive to requests for review copies. If I begin posting reviews of their titles after purchasing them then there would be no need for them to ever consider adding us to their list for coverage of their releases.

Hopefully that will change soon.

Thanks.

Thats right, I remember you telling me that Sorry, as I forgot about that bit of info and that makes total sense. Dont they know you are the official AVS reviewer? Hopefully Universal will get you some discs soon.

I just received Hellboy 2 and will view it this week-end when wife can watch. I will return. Now I got to order latest Hulk as Ralph says it is reference and he is has been right on with discs I have purchased because of previous reviews.

Same here. I was amazed...

Even my wife, who wouldn't know the difference between SD and BD if it hit her in the face, made a comment on how great the movie sounded. And she never comments on anything besides the movie itself. It was that good.

Thanks Frank.

I've seen the Edard Norton version, but only in SD.
I want to buy a BD player. But I know if I do that I will want to upgrade my pj, and that's big money. Especially when my wife can't see anything wrong with the system we already have.

Greetings,

As much as I enjoy discussion wvasko/Nordo, this has drifted a bit too far off topic. I have deleted non topic related posts.

I absolutely recommend Kung Fu Panda! Not only is it reference audio and video, it is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. My whole family loved it.

This morning I bought a Panny BD-35 at my local Sears - a fantastic deal.
My HT is 1080p/24 and can handle the new audios over HDMI.
So, if you had to pick the single best Blu-Ray movie to get that will really blow your socks off for visual and sound impact when using this player, what would it be?
I'm in the same boat with Sgooter but can any of you in here recommend a documentary like Galapagos, Planet Earth or etc? I am guessing maybe alot of the documentaries are not full 1080p and won't really show off blu ray in the audio department.

I vote for Transformers which will blow more than just your socks off! Strap your house down!

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for the list. I noticed you put Flyboys as recommended for both Audio and Video. I know you have not written a formal review, but would love your thoughts. I saw a demo at a local high end store, and saw about 5 minutes of a dogfight scene. I didn't know what movie it was, but had to ask the salesperson what movie was playing.

Any general thoughts on movie content, audio and video presentation? I might just blind buy this.

Thanks!
Greg

Ralph I have been reading your reviews for a long time and I love them. I think now is the time that you have to be tougher on soundtracks since they are all getting so darn good in HD.

I see that your LFE ratings are sort of high for movies that I feel should be at least 1 notch lower. For instance last night I watched the Lion, Witch and Wardrobe and to be honest the LFE for that movie was at best a 3 out of 5. Really only 2-3 scenes stood out to me and I, like you, have a PB-13 and mine is in a 1800cu ft theater. Movies like Cloverfield and WOTW should be our 5 star benchmarks. I doubt for instance Kung Fu Panda and the upcoming Prince Caspian can reach the levels of those movies.

The new HULK in my eyes wouldn't even get a 5 start LFE...I'd say a 4 because it was very good, but not JAW DROPPING besides just a couple scenes.

Just my 2 cents

Greetings,

Thanks for your input. I would have to agree that the Lion, The witch and the wardrobe wouldn't be in the LFE catagory of KFP or Prince Caspian. That was one of my eariler Blu-ray Disc reviews and I hadn't had the exposure to the number of discs that I have seen to this point.

I don't agree with your assessment of The inscredible Hulk but do agree that WOTW and Cloverfield are two of the best LFE experiences.

Thanks again and I look forwrd to seeing you here at AVS..
