Ralph how do you like those Canton speakers? Nice to see someone else rocking them. They don't get much love on AVS.
Thanks for the list. I have been using it as a buying guide. I watch more movie than most normal people, but will buy about anything for good sound.

I can't wait to see if Immortals falls on this list. As of this writing, I don't think it's on Blu yet, but I have great expectations for it. I saw it in the theatre and I hope it will transfer over well.

I also bought this one too. If you like Adele - this is a must have. Great sound and picture. Also came with a CD of the concert. Catch the preview on youtube. Warning - she does have a potty mouth.

My favorite concert on Blu-Ray is still Pink Funhouse Tour: Live In Australia. It's like a cirque du soleil show. She does a great Bohemian Rhapsody. I have had guests who have never heard of her mesmerized by the show. Very entertaining.

I am eyeing the Sting in Berlin concert next.

Need an official review of Redline (was just released 1/17.) It's an anime film with near reference video and 5.1 surround audio and a different experience than any other animated film - it's basically the tron Legacy of anime...

Got my US release in yesterday and watched it for ~ the 15th time on Blu-Ray last night (have the Japanese & UK Special/Collector Edition releases) and it was still as awesome, hilarious, and exciting as ever (in Japanese w/English subtitles...not too keen on the English Dub...)

Also looking for your review of Moneyball starring Brad Pitt. I got this the week it was released and thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course it helps to be a baseball fan.

Any recommendations for top notch foreign blurays?
Top notch foreign - I just picked up Black Book and Red Cliff. I really enjoyed Black Book for the story too. I can't wait to see Red Cliff (preview looks great). They use House of Flying Daggers as a demo at Gramophone - for sound and picture - and really enjoyed that one too. It's much much better than Couching Tiger Hidden Dragon - quality, story and effects.

I didn't see anything for moneyball in the threads or the database. If there is no review for it, I would like to recommend it! Thanks!

I'm happy to see Rambo on the list! Nothing makes me appreciate my LFE more than when you hear that .50 caliber go THUNKA-THUNKA at the end. Makes me smile every time.

I watched the 2011 version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last night - and then watched the original 2009 European version on netflix to see how it compared. The Euro version seemed very choppy. The 2011 version had a better overall flow.

My opinion tho - Noomi Rapice is much better looking Lisbeth than Rooney Mara's version. I would not toss Noomi's Lisbeth out of bed for smoking. The movies are pretty rough stuff though. Rated R for disturbing violent content including rape, grisly images, sexual material, nudity and language. I would typically avoid a film like this - but it was a very good story (and my hunch was right on what was going on - but still I was not disappointed).

Also check out Noomi Rapice in the trailer for Prometheus (Alien prequel coming this summer). I am more stoked about that movie. I have watched the trailer 20 times now.

Solaris (Original)

+1 for Redline and Jurassic Park, they are absolutely beautiful, both in picture and sound. JP in particular was very "in your face".

I really enjoy coming back to see how often this list gets updated. IO have most of the movies on here and look forward to seeing if The Avengers and John Carter makes the cut when they come out.
Not listed but definitely on my on list are the following movies for both sound and video.
The Warriors Way
Season of the Witch
Sucker Punch
X-Men: First Class
The Island

Super 8

ok - I'm going to go out on a limb and ask if there is a definitive list of criteria that gets used to determine what goes on the list and what doesn't? You guys can tell me to go pound sand now if you'd like.

javry, I wouldn't tell you to go pound sand for making a simple inquiry. wink.gif

Keep an eye our in the coming weeks for an article from me regarding the things that I look for in a quality Blu-ray presentation. That should cover your question.

thanks Ralph - it makes perfect sense to me but then my head moves in mysterious ways sometimes - also I don't know of a better group than the AVS clan for setting this kind of standard - I'll be on the look-out for your paper. Fired up?

Thanks for all the work you do Ralph.
Just finished watching Sin City I was amazed at how crisp that film looks. I would have never thought a black and white film could look so good.
I'm on this website just about everyday. When I need to checkout a review of a movie I may wish to purchase I come here.
