Record from ReplayTV to DVD recorder ??

This is my third attempt at posting a message.......other attempts did not work....

Is it possible to record from Replay TV to a Presidian DVD recorder from Radio Shack ??
I have tried everything I know and have gone back to the store and the "help" is no help.

I have a bunch of This Old House how to shows recorded on Replay TV ( like TiVo ) and want to burn them to DVD on the Presidian.

Unfortunately the Replay needs to be on Channel 3 to see commands and such.
The Presidian needs to be on INPUT or AUX to see its commands.

There is an OPTION on Replay to SEND TO VHS..........I tried that over the coax cable but it did not work......seems like the machinery seems to know it is NOT a TV sending the signal......the Presidian works fine recording from TV....

Nothing I've tried works.

TIA

How is the Replay TV connected to the Presidian DVD recorder? If possible connect the Replay TV to the Presidian DVD recorder using something other than coax cable. Then turn on the Presidian DVD recorder and select the correct input. You should be able to veiw the Replay TV over the DVD recorder. If this works just get your program running and hit record on the Presidian DVD recorder.

I have multiple ReplayTV units and record them to DVD all the time using one of several DVD Recorders. It works fine with any of them.

HDMI Guy has it right. You need to run the composite or S-Video (best quality) output from your ReplayTV to the same input (i.e. comp or S-Vid) on your DVD Recorder. Get your DVD recorder setup to record, select the input the RTV is on, and, as HDMI Guy says, you should at that point see your RTV output on your TV (from the DVD Recorder).

Start the "Save to VCR" from your RTV and then press RECORD on your DVD Recorder. If the Presidian supports it, you can set the time to 1/2 hr, 1 hr, etc. by repeatedly pressing the record button. If not, then you have to monitor the recording and press STOP at the appropriate time.

So, to be clear, the video signal flows from the RTV into the DVD Recorder and out to your TV (so you can monitor the recording). In fact, in order to simplify the cabling in my own setup, I have my ReplayTV setup so it ONLY feeds into my DVD Recorder and not my TV. I turn on my DVD Recorder, select the input the ReplayTV is on (S-Video) and watch it on TV via the DVD Recorders output to the TV. When I want to record to DVD, I simply put in a disk and press RECORD. On my TV I can select another input if I want to watch something else while the DVD is recording (usually the case). All my recorders support setting the record time (like VCR's did) by just repeatedly pressing RECORD. So, it's very easy.

Hope this helps!

Heh, I do almost the same thing.

My old Sony 27" TV has only 2 inputs(*). For a while now, I've had my XS32 feeding into input #1, and my Tivo HD on input #2.

But feeding into my XS32's inputs are my S1 Tivo(**), my PS2, and my Series 3 Tivo. I used to have one of the cheapo manual switchboxes, but it broke after a year or two.. I should buy another at some point.

(*) Though I realize this will probably be somewhat less of an issue with newer style inputs, and I know that most people use an amplifier to do switching... I wish that TVs had FAR more inputs. Like 5 composite inputs would really be useful. If I could add an input for $40 or something, I'd do that. i.e. have options for TVs.

(**) That is my second S1 that I transferred lifetime subscription when they had a deal to do so. It will be turned off in November when the 'free' year is up.

I could probably unplug my PS2 from the XS32 and plug in the TivoHD (even though I *do* play the PS2).. but I nowadays just transfer the programs from the TivoHD to the S3 when I want to send them to the XS32..

sounds very complex, but it mostly works for me.

I have a friend who just purchased a new 52 inch HDTV from Samsung. It has one composite input on the back and one composite imput on the side. It has 3 HDMI inputs and two component inputs on the back. I guess they think everyone is using a receiver to do the switching.

That actually sounds like a *lot*, unless they can't all be used simultaneously (similar to how on older TVs like mine, one composite input 'shares' the audio with the S-video input.. so essentially you have one less input than it seems like).

Yea, I've got two switches, but as I kept reconfiguring, this was easier (less cabling). My TV has only 1 component, 2 S-video/Composite back, 1 front. Never enough. Just using the recorder as a "switch" works. In addition, the image looks very good. So no worries.
