Thanks all

And... are they still "cheap" after shipping charges?

Not that some auctions on ebay do that...

We all know they will not be "cheap" as the name implies he was wondering because of my post stating they will be selling the DTVPal

SolidSignal is not accepting coupon orders it is listed above as if they did
CheapDigitalConverters has a form to be notified of pre-orders

Provantage was accepting coupon orders and has stopped and been removed from the NTIA list
FreeDTVShop received their maximum number of pre-orders.

Here is Ditec/CheapDigitalConverters contact information:

Ditec Santa Maria
1529 Stowell Center Plaza Suite B
Santa Maria, CA 93458
(805) 614-0908

Ditec Los Angeles
6460 Whittier Blvd Suite A
Los Angeles, CA 90022
(877) 347-4701
Email ditectv@gmail.com

Those of you who live locally of course don't have to pay shipping as they say they offer local pickup.
They are on the NTIA approved list but so was Provantage

Also lexus2108 about the shipping you can't add the DTVPal to the cart yet so that is from the Tivax converter they sell.
The DTVPal is lighter and smaller so it should be less but you know how retailers are.

$40 seems to the lowest of the online stores

Just like lexus2108 asked...

Anyone with some first hand experience with this company?

I mentioned on the DTVPal thread that it's web site... particularly it's "front page" is very archaic and even some of it's other pages are poorly formatted.

Current price for a DTVPAL there is $59.99 before any discounts, shipping, and taxes. They expect stock July 1, 2008 .

I'd be very cautious.

Thanks

I'd be very cautious of any site that advertises the DTVPal and has forgot to add the letter "R" to the word "your". And it gives me a bad feeling when it goes from CheapDigitalConveters.com to ricochet.heritagewebdesign.com when you click on the order button.

Did you forget to add your coupons to your account LOG IN AGAIN go to MY ACCOUNT and then go to VIEW or CHANGE my account information and add you coupons

After all of the shady business and bad preorder deals. I would be cautious of any site that sells CECBs.

I've mentioned the claims of icon plagarism in the comments section and what looked like a childish retort (did they delete that?), saw them later lift the exact wording on SolidSignal's " please read" statement. IIRC, they were taking coupon numbers online at first. There have been multiple errors like the "add you coupons" mentioned above. In addition to names above, they also using the name ditec, apparently no association with the lender ditec.

How common is it for a business to use gmail?

The "about us" was blank. So I looked up an address, without the suite number. I wound up in a field. It could be another street with a similar name, but I wasn't putting a lot into this, and didn't pursue it.

From what I've been reading "ricochet.heritagewebdesign.com" is the cheapdigitalconverters "Web Design/Web Host". So we know where the "cutting edge" web site design is coming from. (They actually claim to be ranked in the top 1% of Hosting Companies... wonder who ranked them. Their link is on the front page as HWS)

I can probably forgive most of the "sloppy" design if their service is good. As previously posted questions about the DTVPAL are being answered, so "service" might be OK.

It's just strange to see a "professional" site with such glaring errors or amateur rookie mistakes which anyone with the simplest Web Page editor could fix or flesh out.

On the other hand if "cheap" means they are cutting corners on the web design and passing the savings onto customers and their pocket I'm OK with that... As long as the product/service doesn't suffer.

Anyone buy their currently available CECBs? The pricing looks good for the most part.

Hey just a thought.. Could a company have the moniker QualityConverterBoxes and still be crap? :P

John

Probably should have went with a name like DiscountConverterBoxes.

Ahh Marketing!!

If the name isn't taken yet... "cheap" could have HWS sign them up and with only a few minor changes to the site corner the "quality" converter box market.

Not to judge a book by it's cover but if they choose the name specifically because they wanted to provide CECBs at the cheapest price (or best quality)... that might effect how much they invest in other areas.
