Pio 550/650 HDMI question

Would anyone know if the Pio 550 / 650's HDMI outputs only upconvert the signal from the DVD player, or also from the tuner? If the tuner signal was upconverted as well, then that would help with the poor picture quality of SD sources that all flat panel TVs exhibit right now.

I just read about this, and here's what the Future Shop spec page has:

"1080p HDMI Upscaling: This allows you to playback DVDs in the highest possible resolutions, making sure you get the most out of your viewing experience."

Nothing on upconverting TV channels that I could see.

Thanks. I was hoping that someone who has any of these recorders (Pio 550/650/560/660) set up with a HDMI cable to a HD TV could confirm this. I returned my HD LCD TV because of poor SD performance, and thought this could be a way to resolve that problem by having HDD recordings and TV channels upconverted.

Good news! According to a Pioneer rep, Pio DVD recorders with an HDMI ouput (550 / 650 / 560 / 660) upconvert signals from all sources: DVD, HDD, and Tuner. So they can be used to improve regular SD channels, and content recorded on the HDD, when viewed on a HD TV!

Thanks for the info.

I just bought a Pio 650 recently and was able to set it to output 1080i and through hdmi to my 3 year old Panasonic AE900 projector.

My tv cable now runs separately through both the Pio 650 via hdmi to the projector and separately through a Pio 640 via component cables through to the same projector.

This way I am less likely to miss a recording opportunity as both recorders can be in simultaneous operation on different signals.
