PS3 feature wishlist for next firmware update

Thread Starter
Hi there!

I know a similar thread alredy exists, but most of the demanded features of that thread have become reality by now, so I thought it might be time for a new thread with new demands (insatiable as we are ).
Some of the features I would look forward to are quite simple in nature and I am surprised I must say, that they still haven't been integrated.
Some others are just the logical next steps considering the PS3's and PSP's evolution so far.
So here we go:

1) Ability to integrate folders into folders (e.g. in MP3 or Photo mode).
What's so difficult about letting the PS3 (and PSP as well) recognize that there's another "folder in the folder"? Works in private network mode, so why not with content on the PS3's HDD as well?

2) Shoutcast (PSP already has it, so PS3 should only be a matter of time)

3) Correction of the "Channel assignmet problem" (see seperate thread, stereo MP3/DIVX/AVC/...-Sources are output as 7.1 data-streams with 5 channels dead) - MAJOR FLAW!!

4) Ability to still display the "dynamic ribbon" (or whatever you wanna call that transparent moving thing behind the XMB) in front, when a custom-wallpaper has been set. Just to have some movement, looks cooler!

5) Ability to stream AVC-files via private network (why doesn't that work already, btw?)

Can't think of anything else at the moment, but further additions are welcome of course!
Let's just hope someone important from Sony reads this anytime soon...

More granularity for fast forward and rewind on BD playback. Going from 1.5X to 10X is to much.

HDMI 480i output for DVD. It may not be possible via software alone though.

open up codec support, and allow dd 5.1 and dts 5.1

I'd love to see the disc resume feature changed so that if you exit playback while at a menu, it goes back to the menu when resuming. Currently if you stop while on a menu, it starts playing track 1 when you resume. It's annoying for TV on DVD and I wish it would just return to wherever it previous was.

I'd also like to ability to preview wallpapers in a downloaded theme. And perhaps the ability to turn some wallpapers off. I like downloading themes, but if I want to see what wallpapers are included, I either have to apply the theme over and over and over or open it on my PC. The theme my wife is using has two wallpapers and one is for HD and the other SD. So she randomly gets a crappy looking background. That's when it would be nice to disable one of the two wallpapers in that theme.

I think the disc resume feature is part of the BD-J authoring of the discs and isn't a firmware correctable "issue".

The ability to playback Apple movie trailers from the internet would be nice ( Can you do that already ? )

When installing a game it would be nice to have that done in the background so you can browse the net or watch trailers or anything really while it installs to the hard drive.

More improvements done to the SD upscaling and yes improve the fast forward as 1.5x to 10x is too much and there should be a 2x and maybe a 3x and 5x times speed option in there as well.

and....

The ability to understand AAC tag info just like every other device that is AAC compatible. I hate having to re-enter all the artist/album/track info for every song after importing AAC audio files to the PS3 hard drive that I've ripped using the iTunes or Nero AAC codec.

A miracle happen and bitstream capability become enabled...

HDMI overscan correction...
my current TV is crap, and cuts off a solid 5% or so of the image around each edge with no adjustment for it... but if i feed a 720p signal from my Macbook via HDMI, it shows the whole screen. I figure Sony could make the PS3 do whatever the Macbook's doing.

I am happy with the sound! I would just like it to have the option in the future so I could compare...

This is a small pet peeve I have with both the PS3 (and also on the wii). When you press the PS button display the current time. The 360 and PSP both do when you press the guide button/home button.

Continuous play of video files. Having every Looney Tunes cartoon on my PS3 from Vols 1-5 would be SOOOO much better if i didn't need to manually start a new one every time one finishes. Imagine needing to click on a different song every time a song completes. Talk about annoying.

It kind of bugs me that it'll do this even after you eject the disc and turn off the unit. I wish there was an option to have it always play from beginning on auto-load.

WMA Pro audio...PLEASE! I have some discs I'm dying to play that have no audio currently. If Sony doesn't want to pony up the money for some additions, as far as licensing goes, I wonder if they would offer some additional features for a nominal fee. Of course, I would prefer free, but if the only way I can get WMA Pro is to pay for it, I might be game.

1. Mozilla Firefox web browser.

2. QuickTime support.

3. It plays back flash videos from the web but it would be good to be able to playback .flv files directly from the hard drive.

Like Funcha, I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for things associated with licensing.

it be nice if you could program the ps3 to shutdown after downloading from the store like the 360 does.

NTFS support over the network for file streaming.
