DS3 a requirement for MGS4?

I know you can play MGS4 with the sixaxis but wanted to get the opinion of others who have had a chance to play with the DS3 to find out if you are missing out on anything by not using the DS3. I have the game (still wrapped as I'm at work) but don't have a DS3 and am just curious if there are things in the game that use the DS3 for effect that you can't take advantage of with the sixaxis. No spoilers please - just let me know your thoughts on it as being a 'requirement' to enjoy the game fully - outside of just effects.

If it's anything like it's predecessors, then yes.

Is it huge? no, but just little touches

That's my concern - there were some scenes where the dialog wrapped around the DS, just wondering if it's the same with MGS4. I'll probably pick one up after work if that's the case...

Yes it is used alot trough out the game. For many thing, including reloading, outside mortar effects. IMO it was made for the game, and I suggest you go out and pick one up. Actually all PS3 owners should do so!

I am not a fan of "vibration", but I did buy a DS3 when I got this game, and I'd say that the vibration touches were well done.

Dang. Maybe I should pick a dS3 for my run through the second half of the game. :Q

Thanks for this tip! Everytime I've heard they're cheap on buy.com, I miss it by an hour or something and they've gone back up.

Finally have ds3 haha. 35 is a great price for another controller. Thanks again!

No prob, originally found it on here. They happen to have a new deal for Canadian readers: DS3 for $25 with purchase of GT5:P (so it'd be $65 total for both).

Thanks, I have one on the way now.
That will make 3 PS3 controllers for me but one of them has to be reset all the time and the PS button doesn't work. (any ideas on why this is happening)

I just purchased a DS3. It is always assigned port 2, even without the other controller being turned on. I have to switch it to port 1 every time that I turn the console on. Is there a way to permanently switch its port number? I intend to sell my Sixaxis, so it's going to become annoying to always have a controller that I no longer have permanently occupying port 1 (on startup).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Rumble effects in MGS4 are extremely well done.

It definitely adds to the immersion factor in the story.

Make sure you don't have anything else plugged in via usb like rockband controllers etc...

Yeah my IR remote dongle always kicks my controller to the #2 assignment. A small irritation that I have gotten use to.
