Distance RG59? Loss with baluns? Extron?

If I have runs approx 100' will I be fine running RG59 over this distance. Will there be any loss to speak of.

Have people had issues running RG59/Component using an Extron Matrix or similar?

Is there any loss when using Component over Cat5 w/ baluns?

If I use a cheaper component switch and use baluns is there loss to speak of?

Which would you say would be more problematic Component over Cat5 or RG59? I'm assuming this probably depends on hardware but in general?

I am looking at purchasing an extron switcher. The seller says its p/n is 60-325-15 and from what I can tell this is a crosspoint 300. Pictures show a dipswitch...is this the model has had good luck with passing digital audio?

Thanks,

Justin

You shouldnt have any problems with the distance with the RG59. Extron Matrix switchers are very reliable, in 14 years I have only seen one problem and Extron was very prompt in replacing the switch.

The cat5 baluns should be active(powered) and you wont have any loss worth worring about.

I cant speak for the quality and losses of a cheaper switch as I have never used one.

I cant say that either cat5 or rg59 would be problematic. If you go the cat5 route, be mindful of the baluns or converters. Some of them are preconfigured for cable distance over 1000 feet. Make sure that you are using baluns or converters that will operate within your cable distance. Some of Extrons converters have adjustments on them so you can tweek the levels to compensate for cable length.

Good Luck

Thanks for the information.

So its pretty much a toss up between video over RG59 vs Cat5. Seems like the cost of the baluns outweights (slightly) the extra cable costs but the Cat5 appears to be a bit more future proof and easier to run. I guess I'll just run both for now and figure it out later.

Thanks
