HDMI + Wireless rear speakers - do they exist?

Hi there,

I have read all about the sony HTSF2000 and am close to waiting to buy the new HTSF2300 because I need a player-less system that supports HDMI for my ps3/dvr and has speakers on stands which I prefer as I have no where to put them otherwise, but I also can't have a wire going across my rear two speakers becuase there is a walkway between them that goes into another room.

Is there any hope for me? It seems that the only sony systems that support the wireless rear speakers do not have HDMI inputs

Wireless speakers are a nice idea, but are more of a novelty and usually won't be included in "better" systems. The sound quality is mediocre and they're prone to interferance. They're also not completely wireless. There's a rear receiving unit that has to be plugged in to an electrical outlet, and then the speakers connect to that. Speakers aren't powered on their own so if they're not connected directly to the receiver, they have to get power from somewhere else. The only benefit is that you don't have wires running from the front to the back of your room.

If you absolutely must have wireless rear speakers, Rocketfish (carried at BB) has a wireless rear kit that can be integrated into pretty much any system.

Also remember you can always buy some speaker stands if the system you buy doesn't have floorstanding speakers. You can find some decent stands that don't cost a fortune.

As for your walkway problem, the best and cleanest solution (in my opinion) would be to run your speaker wires in the wall. That's what I finally ended up doing and am very pleased with the results, but I understand if you don't want to tackle such a project. You could also try running the wire under the carpet across the walkway (if you have carpet) , but repeatedly stepping on that wire isn't a great idea either. Good luck with whatever you decide.

thanks that is helpful! I do not own my place right now as I am living in Vancouver temporarily so I can't run wires into the walls.

Just another opinion, but depending on how long you will be temporarily living somewhere, I might just buy a system (5.1 or 7.1), and set it up as 3.1 using the center, fronts and sub for now. Then when you get settled, set up the rear speakers. You could also consider looking at a soundbar. I've read good things about the Sony HT CT-100, but I've never heard it. After you get moved, it might be something that would be good to go in a bedroom. If you don't have somewhere for it to go after moving, though, I would hate to tell you to spend money on a component you'll only use for a short time.
