No they did not know as I ordered in May.

This is a bad picture of my 50" 1140. My stand rolls and it sits solidly on it. Not screwed down.


Quake zones are another matter.

The date I was originally given was June 10th, this was back when I pre-ordered the 151 in May. I knew that date would'nt hold true. I checked back with them last week and was told the last week of June so I am very happy to be getting it 2 weeks early. The last I was told, Sound Advice has sold 65 151's and they are getting 49 in the first shipment. Hopefully you were in the first 49.

Sounds like you and I are getting pretty much the same info, Marc. I'm in S. Carolina and and ordered my 151FD in May from Tweeter (Sound Advice). A week or two ago they told me to expect mine to arrive June 26th. I'm now told that it'll be here this Friday. I should know for sure by tomorrow or so.

Hope it's this Friday...I'd love a good reason to take the day off!

Your setup looks great, I was just ribbing you about all of your components. The 151 will make a nice center piece.

I returned the TV and my new 151 is scheduled to be here on Thursday.

I got mine today! I'm running the Break-In right now! I did some initial set-up and calibrations with DVE-HD (Blu-ray) and popped in a few disks before I started the break-in DVD.

Beautiful set, to say the least. I think people who are going to be getting this set will be thoroughly pleased.

Now as a little background on me and how this all came about... I got an 52XBR5 about 7 months ago which was replacing a Sony 60A2000 SXRD set. I was generally very pleased with the XBR5, but as the time went on, a couple things really haunted me badly. One was motion lag, motion detail resolve and another was black levels. On top of the motion lag, I would get a little bit of red color lag that was only noticeable on very rare occasions. No matter what I did, I could not get the set to where I truly loved it. If I got the punch I was looking for from the set, the overall black level was sacrificed. If I got the black level I could settle for, the picture was a lot dimmer than I liked. After much deliberation, I finally decided to jump into the Plasma section of this forum. It really did not take long before I got into looking continuously at the 8th gen Pioneer threads and really piqued my interest. After a short little time, they announced the 9th gen and with the darker black levels, thinner panel, better contrast, colors, etc. I knew I needed to get one. Well, here I am, after a short period of waiting, I finally got the 151 into my home.

My brother and I assembled the stand, placed the panel on the stand and set it on my entertainment center all within about 30 minutes and I fired it up just to make sure nothing was drastically wrong with it, then I had to pack up my XBR5 and haul that to my brothers and help him set up. After a long time over at his place getting his system up, I came home and finally got time to adjust the set a bit and then run a few scenes before I initialized the Break-In sequences.

I will be watching normal content (movies and TV shows) periodically, but I will generally be running the Break-In sequence.

I am VERY excited! My brief experience thus far has already given me worlds more satisfaction than ANY other display unit I've used since I started this hobby.

Probably tomorrow, I will be posting pictures of my set. My camera is in my room where my wife is sleeping and I don't want to wake her up just to get it. Look for some pictures and screen shots from me tomorrow!

Oh, also, anyone who is interested in seeing the 151 in action here in So Cal, I know the Best Buy/Magnolia Home Theater got one in and set it up. I saw them setting it up when I picked up a Blu-ray Disc today.

They have the 151 near the 110's so you can do a bit of comparing.

Cool, looking forward to your pixs! Depending on the time my delivery arrives, I may or may not have pictures up on the same day. It might take till Thursday for me to post them, unless something unexpectedly happens such as getting home early etc.

Cool, I like how the video game looks on your set and I like the way it looks with the speakers on. Very nice! Even if I wanted to have the speakers on mine, I simply won't have enough room. I do however have the audio system, so it probably won't matter that much anyway. That is, till I move it to the bedroom several years from now.

I'm also wondering if I need to use the additional attachments on the stand. The only time I can remember having an earthquake was around 1990 or 1991. It's very rare here in Scottsdale and I'm not even sure if it could even knock a 151FD to the ground.

I wish I had room for the speakers on the side, but I don't. As it stands now, I have about half an inch clearance before the edge of my TV stand and directly on one side is my equipment rack, and the other side is my sub, so there's absolutely no room.

Ah well, this thing is beautiful. I have literally stared at some of the colored break-in images for a while now.

Also, for the record, I cannot hear any buzzing from my seating area about 12' away with normal content. The only time I can hear a buzz from 12' back is when there is a white or near-white image (like the one on the Break-In sequence). Other colors, images, etc don't audibly buzz. Also, if I put my ear up near to the front of the panel, about a foot away, I can hear a tiny bit of buzz.

But, for everyday use, I doubt there will be any noticeable buzzing, which is good news for me!

No dead/stuck pixels yet (*knock on wood), either! Hopefully, it'll stay that way, too!

It was funny, right after we put the TV onto the stand, my wife comes up and says, "That better not be permanently on there...", referring to the Kuro sticker on the top right. I mentioned to her that many people had that very same concern on this forum and fortunately enough, it is ONLY a sticker!

Delivery on Tuesday

This is it. The final countdown...Buzz and or dead/stuck pixels...151FD here I come!

Got the confirmation call earlier today and delivery will be between 3-5pm. I will be taking pictures, however depending on when it's actually delivered and the time it's set up, I may or may not be ready to post till Thursday at the latest.

Tuesday night is bargain night at the Scottsdale 6 drive-in...$4 double features! It's an easy and very enjoyable way to check out the movies I may want to buy on Blu-ray.

I won't be missing anything since I'm just going to pop in the break-in DVD.

So where is everyone getting their 151FDs?? Local B&M stores? or online?

I am extremely jealous by the way Congrats to all.

Getting mine from Showcase. It's a Tweeter store but not advertised like that. I set up a pre-order almost a month ago.

Still getting things ready for the big day..

As you can see, on the left and right sides of the old TV, there is now a bit of room. This is because I (temporarily) moved the Xbox 360 over to the extreme left and on the other side, I have the pre-amp and Laserdisc player moved a bit more to the right. There will now be more than enough room to fit the 151FD. It will be close, but "hopefully" it will not look too cramped once the new screen is in place. I'm not going to worry about that too much as I think it will look ok. Also, you will notice the wires going across the top of the old TV. I had to move those from the bottom buried under many more wires and get them out on top since those are the only ones that will get stretched all the way from once side of the unit to the other. Because of this maneuver, those wires will now easily fit behind the center cabinet once it's place.


I don't know if anyone else does this, however I always like to think about the first images I would like to see (or hear) on a new device. Hmmm, what should I play? 2001? After all, it is one of the titles D-Nice suggested that would be good for showing off blacks. Problem is, should I watch the Laserdisc version or the Blu-ray? Hmmmmmmm. Tough choice! Particularly since I don't have a Blu-ray player! Ok, maybe I should pick out something on DVD. I never bought 2001 on DVD since I knew Blu-ray was coming out. How about Aliens?!!! I've got that one on DVD and it's another D-Nice pick! Oh by the way Hamsamish09, does anything look familiar on the table? Maybe I will play that one first...the first 150 hours that is! Thanks again for the DVD!


Fair warning...there may be some reddish shots of the arrival of the 151FD. My point and shoot digital camera JUST starting given me trouble. In this shot you can see the problem of a red streak and a reddish color overall. Oh well. Anyway, here's a shot of some MDs and other video/audio software that's rarely out of the wooden drawers. This was done to reduce the weight so it will be easier for the movers to move the cabinets around.


Now I should probably get some sleep!

It is too bad the burn-in DVD isn't able to get rid of Kuro lettering on the upper right hand side of the unit. I'm quite disappointed Pioneer went away from their understated styling.

I believe the technique needed is called 'peeling'. One, if so moved, must peel the decal off of the bezel. If Pioneer wanted to be innovative, they should have made it disappear, evaporate even, once the set was exposed to medium daylight, maybe with a puff of smoke? (And I know you were being sarcastic, too )

Good to hear. IMO, the buzz will be present to some degree on almost all of these units, particularly these 60 inchers. I would hope that dead pixels are more of a rarity.

You must be blown away coming from LCD. I bet the more you watch the Kuro (with real programming, not just the break in disc ) the more you realize how much better of a PQ plasma offers.

Which Best Buy is that?

Not even time to take off the "Kuro" sticker! Funny, I think most of the pictures shows them with their stickers on. I know you'll get more pictures to us later.
