Awesome roadtrip!

You're welcome

Have you decided whether you're going to keep your 6020, or upgrade to the 151?

I am thinking about the 151 bigtime, not to say the 6020 isn't one awesome piece of work though

Hey everyone. Just bought the PRO-151 at my local BB/Magnolia. I was going to wait until Fall, but stumbled across a 12% reward zone coupon on Dealcatcher.com (which expires today). The manager in the Magnolia section let me use it, so I pulled the trigger.

The only drawback? I'm going on vacation for the next 2 1/2 weeks. Therefore, I told the manager not to order my panel until the end of July. Now, I can truly look forward to both the vacation and (perhaps even more so) returning home to enjoy my new toy!

12% off MSRP is probably not the best deal out there. However, I'm a perfectionist and a return freak. Any dead pixels or what I deem as excessive buzzing and I can/will exchange the panel for another one, completely hassle-free... except of course for the short trip back to BB.

Thanks to everyone for all the great info on this forum!

D-Nice may have found some Service Menu settings for the 6020. You might want to hold out and see what comes up with his findings before you move forward.

This review is kind of disappointing b/c it rates the elite almost close to the panny850.

And I don`t understand from where they got this statement regarding black levels

"you’ll have to wait for next year’s Gen 10 model according to Pioneer"

I can top that!! I once drove straight through from Seattle to San Francisco (a long time ago when a friend and I had way more gumption than brains, and gas was much cheaper), just to eat some bagels on Fishermen's Wharf and turn around and come home.

Do you have the option to exchange through your dealer?
lol, I don't take that review too seriously. There are just a lot of flaws in the facts and the review itself. Personally, I've seen the Pioneer 151 near the 850 and the Pioneer beat it hands down. I don't know where they got some of their misinformation, but there's a plentiful amount of it in the review.

Go to a store and let your eyes be your judge.

Yes, anyone on the fence about the elite kuro, do yourself a favor and find someone who has one and check it out in a home environment. I simply cannot recommend this tv enough. Out of the box, with no calibration, the pure mode is fantastic. Every movie I have tested so far looks great. There are dvds that I thought were poorly mastered because they looked so terrible on my old tv that shine like you would not believe on the 151. It really is the best tv I have ever seen. I am in eager anticipation of my pioneer elite blu-ray player arriving in August. DVD is so good, I don't even know what to expect with blu-ray.

Well after lurking for so long I am ready to pull the trigger on a PRO-151 FD! Couple of questions for you owners if you don't mind.

1. Where can I get the best deal on one? If this is against forum rules then maybe a PM?

2. Initial findings show that I can get the PRO 150 for $500 less and both sub $5k here locally. Would you guys pay $500 extra to get the 151? Once again, a PM would be great.

3. How much do these things weigh and what mounts are you guys using?

4. Does the break in DVD come with the set? If not, where can I get one?

Sorry for the noobie ?'s but I would appreciate any help.

I say "Who cares?" if you've already made your mind up on the TV. If the next
guy doesn't think the TV is the best and goes elsewhere then who cares? You've
still got an awesome panel, and what they think doesn't change your PQ. There's
nothing they can do to take away from your viewing pleasure. I say, congrats to
those who have these sets (and are happy). You don't need someone to tell you
how great your set is, I'm sure.

Don't even know if this is a dumb question, but are all you guys using the color sensor? I didn't bother to attach it when I first set up the TV for break-in, and haven't gotten around to it still. Is it actually necessary, or have any tangible benefit, or should I just leave it off? Seems like it'd be kind of ugly if you mount it where they suggest.

Also, I'm still hoping for an answer to this earlier post, if anyone has some insight:

I'm trying to determine whether it's actually likely to help avoid IR, specifically with TV logos and tickers, versus whether it could have any detrimental effect on film images. Since it's apparently a universal setting, it'll apply to both unless I change it back and forth all the time.

Robert - RE-ASK hopefully correctly - Can 141 connect directly to internet and browse via computer in seperate room (both connected to home network) or does the IP ready just enable calibration via the IP address? Can you also please verify it will also have the same Home Media Gallery connectivity as 151s, and hopefully with added benefit of being able to serve as external monitor/browser for the external room computer (not hard connected with standard PC cable but via cat 5 and home network)? Does it have controls (volume/channel) & accessable I/O on the left panel side like 151?

Don't you always need an operating system and browser software for that? Robert will hopefully verify, but I'd be shocked if the 141 is supposed function as an internet terminal.

So does the external color sensor come with the TV or do you have to buy it seperatly?

It came with the TV.

That review was interesting to say the least. Out of the box, the Elites are extremely close to accurate in comparison to the 850. Post calibration, according to that reveiw, the Panasonic would seem to be the better choice, if you take into account the difference in price? I definitely would like to see these two sets side by side post calibration by a certified ISF calibrator that knows what he is doing.

progprog, I didn't bother with the sensor either, and I do not intend to to be honest with you. Oncemy set has been properly broken in, UMR will be stopping by during his August tour to take a whack at it. Reference settings are all that matter to me.
Will someone who actually is using the "external color sensor" please comment as to its affect on picture quality.

Maybe nobody else is using it either. It is kind of like attaching a wart to a work of art....

Are you talking about how the sensor appears on the display or what it does to the picture quality?
I have tried the sensor. The TV does pop, but the color saturation seemed too much. In the next couple days I will take some gamma readings and see where its at and post the results.

I got mine from BB with around a 20% discount. I had to ask for the discount, after another local dealer offered it to me for substantially less than what BB initially quoted.

Here are some pictures of my 111.

My setup - admittedly not as nice as the others:

From Ratatouille, upconverted by Oppo 981:

Ok, back to the break-in disk I go...
