Need to check hours to make sure this is actually a new in box pro 111 but don't know how to do that, some have said from reading other post that you need special tools to do it.

You need ControlCal. For more info, go here http://www.controlcal.com/forum/index.php

If you dont see the home or retail picture then does it mean that the set has been powered on after leaving the factory?
I am not sure if 101 has the same menu in terms of choosing home/retail when you power up first time but pretty sure 151 did so assuming 111 should have it as well.

Can one ControlCal package work on both a 6020 and 101FD or am I stuck buying both? If so, am I just better off having it professionally done instead?

No, you don't necessarily get the Home/Retail setup, so that doesn't mean the panel is "used" or anything like that. The panels are set to Home by default, though occasionally, new owners report getting that menu. I've had three brand new Kuros, sealed in the box, and didn't get that message on any of them.

You need to buy separate Profiles for those panels.

No. See my previous post.

Don't jump to conclusions just because you didn't see that setup option. But you still may want to get ControlCAL anyway, just because it's handy for activating the ISF modes. To check the hours, you'd need to buy an additional "special profile" along with the one for your 111FD, which will be included with your ControlCAL license. (To help you decide whether you want to try it, take a look at the User's Guide to see what you need and how it works.)

Much appreciated. So in your opinion does an ISF for a few hundred more to have both done exhibit much better results than only buying the ControlCals?

"an ISF for a few hundred more?"

progprog,

Thanks for all the helpfull info again. This is a great forum for info and to also keep some sanity.

By the way from a post I sent a few weeks ago, tried to get the pro-101 at reduced price to go along with my pro-111, no such luck B/M store wouldnt budge on their price. Ended up buying a pdp-5010 that was a Sam's club liquidation tv. all sealed up in the box, white strapes attached, Sams Club stickers on the box and they checked out with Sams club, I go their often so I knew who to talk to their. There was 3 of these 5010's sitting way back deep in the warehouse full of dust on the boxes. I got in trouble for posting the price in the non elite threads so lets just say it was cheaper than the cheapest 50 inch panel made by any company making plasma's.

Not a bad picture at all, not as good as the elight 9g but not bad at all especially at the price I paid

I have a year old 151 and have been hearing alot of popping / cracking noises from the back of the set. It is a hard sound to describe. It is almost like a when a house settles. This is not the buzzing that everyone talks about it is more like the plastic on the back of the TV is "creeking". It happens probably once every half an hour or so.

Does this make any sense at all? As I said it is hard to describe.

Thanks,
Steve

Home/Retail does not apply to the monitors.

D-NICE,
Are you saying that a pro-111 should see the home/retail? And if one doe's not see this when 1st powering on after taking out of the box that the set has been turn on after leaving the factory?

Some do some don't. That does not mean it is not NIB.

The 5010 is a very good TV. In fact, I went to the store all set to buy one a while back (also at a good price), and then saw it side-by-side with a 111. I left with a 111. There was enough of a difference to convince me. But absent the 111, I thought the 5010 was the best-looking thing there.

And from what I hear, a really good calibrator can squeeze out that little extra bit of PQ that brings the non-Elites nearly on par with the Elites. That seems to be a key difference, from what I can tell.....with more limited user-adjustable settings compared to the Elites, it takes someone like D-Nice to really get optimal performance from those panels.
My understanding is that the 5010 has more user adjustments compared to the 9g 5020.

The user guide on the 5010 is a lot different in apperance than the 9g's elite or not. The 9g's as you all know is stylish, the 8g's are kind of cartoonish looking.

+1. What I tried to do myself with my 500M and 600M vs. D-Nice's calibration of my 5080 can best be expressed by this box score.

Some things are just better left to the pros!

Are you sure it's not something else like your entertainment stand? At night, when it's quiet in my house, I can hear random pop/crack noises from random objects.

Otherwise, someone a while back said they often heard pops from their Kuro. It happened to be the power supply, so he had it replaced.

Finally did the firmware update to my 111 yesterday. No problems. According to the instructions it was supposed to take about 10 minutes; it was done in just under 5. At first I wondered about that and even started to call Pioneer, but decided that the 10 minutes is just a rough estimate and not gospel. I don't use the TV's tuner, but the time could come, so I thought "why not"?

Hello,

I am looking for a pioneer screen. There are a few available from internet resellers who are not pioneer authorized dealers. Pioneer says its warranty will not be valid if the sets are purchased from someone who is not an authorized dealer.

If I purchase a NIB set from a reseller who is not an authorized dealer, can I still purchase an extended warranty? I see that SquareTrade will sell one in that situation, with the warranty starting 60 days after the purchase. Their prices are astronomical, however, at almost $600 for four years regardless for any set not just ones without warranties. This is more than BB!

What about Mack or other companies?

I wanted to find this out before I buy anything. One of the sellers says that they can sell a CPS warranty but this company has probably the worst online reviews of any.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
I found mine by using the "Find a dealer / Enter zip code" feature on the Pioneer website. Make sure to to extend the search radius in order to improve the odds of sucsess.

I have an HD cable box for Verizon FiOS. When watching some HD programs, they do not come up as full screen. Instead they look to be 4:3 aspect ratio. Is there a setting on the cable box or 151 that I need to change? Thanks.
when an HD station is telecasting a non hd program it will have black bars and be 4:3

Some programming really is just 4:3 (though it's not so clear cut as HD vs SD......either one can come in a variety of aspect ratios).

So if you want that 4:3 content to fill the screen, you'll have to stretch it out, which distorts it. If that's what you want, there are a couple ways. You either have your FiOS box do it, or you have the Kuro do it.

In the Kuro, there are a two approaches. This settings combination should automatically detect 4:3 content and stretch it:

[Menu > Setup > Option > Auto Size = Wide-Zoom]
[Menu > Setup > Option > Side Mask > Detection = Mode 1 (or Mode 2)]

In conjunction with the above settings, the HD Wide Mode option allows you to set your preference for Wide1 or Wide2 when the Kuro is automatically stretching 4:3 content:

[Menu > Setup > Option > Side Mask > HD Wide Mode = Mode 1 (Wide1) or Mode 2 (Wide2)]

This can sometimes be a little unreliable because it doesn't always get the right flags from the cable signal. So the other approach, when those settings don't work, is to just manually change the Screen Size setting. Wide/1 and Wide/2 will both fill the screen.
