Thanks for the responses. The thing I don't understand is I'm pretty sure the program is being telecast in HD. For example, I get the 4:3 aspect ratio when the "Amazing Race" was on last season. And currently "Big Brother" is showing up as 4:3 even though I'm pretty sure it is being broadcast at 1080i.

I just read your response again and it sounds like even though a show is HD it can still have a 4:3 aspect ratio. And the only way to fix this situation is by streching the picture. Is that correct?

Whether or not a program is HD is separate from its aspect ratio. Yes, there can be HD broadcasts with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

If you are watching a program that you know has a 16x9 aspect ratio, but you are getting side masking bars, it should be pretty obvious that it's getting squished. If it doesn't look that way, then it probably really is 4:3.

So when you say you want to "fix" this, I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean you want everything to fill the screen, regardless of its native AR? Or do you mean that some 16x9 programs are being squished to 4:3 and you're trying to figure out which settings are forcing this?

If it's the former, I already described the settings for stretching 4:3 content. If it's the latter, I would check that your cable box is set for the proper TV type, and that it's not doing its own AR "correction." And finally, make sure the Kuro's screen size is set to FULL or DOTxDOT. (Also, make sure you're not tuning into the SD versions of your shows. I get CNN-HD, for example, on one channel and it's 16x9, but I can also still get the old SD version on another channel, and that's 4:3.)

Haven't posted for a long time but today I woke up to a problem with my 151. There is a thin vertical red line running down the screen about 10-12" from the left. I ran the Video Pattern but I knew that wouldn't fix it. I emailed Pioneer support and was wondering if anyone else here had a similar problem and how it was resolved. Will the display have to be replaced and if so what are the chances of getting that done now with the company not producing panels any longer. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Does it do it with all content? Even the Video Pattern?

Yes all sources. I just talked with the my local Pioneer service center(top notch HT install and service shop), the tech there said it was the panel. They are coming Wednesday to pick it up. He said Pio really makes them put the panel through several tests before allowing a replacement. I asked if it could be a board or something else and he was confident it's the panel. He said I would have it back in a week to ten days. After a fresh break-in will I need to reactivate the ISF settings or are the settings I activated through ControlCal on the main board and remain intact?
Thanks,

Thanks,

I'd wait and see what they actually have to do with it first. I'm sure the guy is good, but he seems to be diagnosing it without even seeing it. I would think (and this is only my speculation) that the ISF modes will remain activated, but your calibration will no longer be accurate.

I understand what your saying, he was reacting to my description and experience tells him the problem I described is overwhelmingly panel failure. I was just happy to know that there are still panels available for replacement given the discontinuation of the line. I'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks for your quick response.

Thanks for your quick response.

Good luck with it. He does sound like a helpful guy who wants to gets this resolved for you, so I hope it's a quick and painless procedure that gets your panel up & running again ASAP.

Congrats on your new toy. But you can just start watching it, no need to wait. The break-in is for using D-Nice's settings with particular models he has specified, and the 101FD isn't one of them.

i haven't posted in a while, but i have to tell you, my 151 is still spectacular. Not one problem and the picture is unbelievably beautiful.
^^^

always good to see someone post that they aren't having problems with their display... too often, only complaints get aired...

it'll be spectacular for a long time too... other than a 9g, i haven't seen anything yet that makes me want to get rid of my 8g...

Ironically, I'm in the exact same boat. +1

As the hours have progressed considerably on my 151, the black levels have consistently fallen.

I bought a pioneer pro101fd monitor about two months ago and I'm very impressed with it. However, for the last several weeks ago I've been hearing a light popping sound, which I think is coming from the back of the monitor. Yesterday, I shut everything off and I heard the pop right afterwords. I've seen a couple posts referring to this issue and was wondering if anyone has found out anything. I have a denon 2310 receiver, a samsung 3270 dvr, and a Lg BD390 Blue ray player. I have a rocket fish unit that allows me to have wireless surround sound, and the back speakers sometimes pop, but this seems to be a known issue with the rocket fish unit. The popping in the front seems to be coming from the pioneer monitor, although I can't be sure. Any suggestions or feedback would be much appreciated.

Perhaps it's just the fans turning on & off.

Hi progprog,

Just a word of thanks about how attentive and helpful you are to everyone on this board. I, for one, really appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness.

x1,000!

(although on your latest comment, I don't agree that a fan turning on or off would make a "popping" sound. If I remember correctly, somone corrected that problem by having Pioneer replace a power supply board. Previous consensus, it seems, is that noone ever hears the fans)

Dan.

Thanks Dan. I do agree with your comment about "popping." But another guy recently posted the same thing and when I asked whether the "pop" could be described as a "click," he said it could. So I just put that out there now as a possibility in case he's using a similarly broad interpretation of "popping."

Can anyone who is using ControlCal or KuroControl tell me if ISF Day & Night is available to input in PC Mode? I watch majority of video materials from my HDPC and want to assess if it is worthwhile to open up ISF modes.

Mike

I believe the ISF modes are available for all inputs, including PC. But since I don't actually use the PC input myself, I'm only 99.9% sure. Confirm with turbe before making a buying decision based on that requirement.

Monitors are fairly orthogonal. You can preview the capabilities on the ISF page at http://your_kuro_ip/cgi/isf.cgi (replace your_kuro_ip with the IP address of your Kuro).

These sorts of things have been discussed on the monitor threads.

It's worth keeping in mind that sometimes people say PC meaning the VGA port and sometimes they say PC meaning PC mode on another (e.g. HDMI) port.

Finally -- the barrier to entry for a Signature is sufficiently low that you should just go ahead and try it out.
Yeah, that's what I meant. You should consider the orthogonality of your monitor before you ask such questions, Mike.

Indeed. But only going forward -- I don't expect learning something new to result in retroactive adjustments. Unless you're the Doctor (Who).

In the 101-FD's Service Info page (I'm looking at it via KuroReader), are the temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit?

Mine show:

Temperature : Temp1 ... *** Temp2 ... 041
: Temp3 ... 032 Panel ... 050

I am working on a new project and have a couple of questions regarding the 111/151 models:

1) Do the Elite TV's (111 or 151) have a serial number sticker on the top right of the panel (facing up), or only one in the back?
2) Is the serial number 12 characters?
