I can only hope that one day somebody makes a good performing 85" plasma that is under $10K or so. But I doubt there is much of a market for such a beast.
Under 10K, I bet there is.
You have plenty of projectors in that range.
If you could power it reasonably, I would buy one.

A 75" at < 7K would work for me

What is the biggest screen I could shoot from about 12.5' ? Room width would be my limitation. And do projectors vary in what they can shoot from a certain distance? Lastly are projectors getting better as far as ambient light goes?

I had a few Infocus projectors back in the early 2000s, that was at my old house when I converted an extra bedroom into a home theater. I needed and had 100% light control back then. I have zero light control in my new home. I could do a bedroom theater again but id rather not.

It varies by projector but I am not an expert.
You might want to ask on that forum.

I have 83" between floor to ceiling clerestory windows. That's the +/- 60" 151FD, two large JBL studio fronts speakers, and some furnishings.

Regarding the IEC power cord that comes with the Pio Elite 151FD, is it specifically designed to perform with the Kuro by Pioneer or will any IEC cord do? I ask because I bought a SurgeX XF2 FlatPak surge eliminator that comes with a detachable IEC power cord and was wondering which cord to use?

I got the USB firmware update in the mail for the PRO-151FD, I turned the tv on, I plugged the USB in the side port but nothing happened. How do I get it to download the firmware?
To update the 151FD, unplug the 151FD, and insert the USB stick. Then plug-in the 151FD. It should then start.

Does anyone know what the "black level" setting does exactly?

I noticed that my panel will go from poor black levels to a good, standard one if the set is left idling and then resumed---does this setting maintain the darkest black level at all times?

If you have a computer programmable remote where the Pioneer is not in the programs own database of remote codes. Those are the hex codes, in case you want to program a computer programmable remote control that can accept the Pronto hex code format. They are also the type of codes you could provide Logitech with, if they need to add new remote codes for a device you may own, that is not yet listed in their database.

I need some help - 111fd - a little over 2 years old

I just noticed that there is a RED light on in the back of the display when it is turned off but in stand by mode

never noticed this before and I swear it was not RED before if it was any color at all

I have no idea what the amount of hours are on this display but I used it about 4-6 hours a day every day for 2 years at least, maybe 2-5 days of that time I wasnt home at all - I know that turbe has a way to tell the hours used but I dont want to pay for this feature, I already got the ISF modes unlocked and calibrated the best I can and I dont really need to see the hours used - unless its free

also I noticed this about 1 month ago and when I looked at my paperwork it is actually exactly 2 years from the date of purchase (Nov 17th), to the date - I noticed it about 5 days after that date and immediately thought it was like a light telling me my warranty was up, lol

this could have been there the whole time and is normal - I just cant remember

I believe it was the last one they released back in April/May of 2009. I don't believe they released one since.

Using a mirror on mine, I see the green light when on, but when off I see the red, and then it goes out, shortly. The back then is dark.

Is yours going out, or is it staying red? If the latter, that could maybe indicate an issue. and maybe not.

I found a 101 FD that's been used as a display for over a year and I'm very tempted to purchase it.

I currently own a 500M calibrated by D-Nice in the same size, but I wouldn't mind another Kuro in the family.

Obviously it'd be wise to check the hours on it, but is there an easy way to accomplish this?

Also, what would you consider a good price for it? It looks to be in mint condition with the exception of it actually be a display and not NIB.

yes its staying red when its off

could it be that I have my energy saving settings of whatever its called turned off? - is yours turned on?

I turned it off just about the first thing I did

I have it set like this

Energy Save= Off
No Signal Off= Enable
No Operation Off= Disable

is there a place in the service menu or something that shows is there are any error codes? - I have the controlcal software - I have also noticed that there appears to be an interlacing issue with some 1080i content on history channel, but as anyone should know history channel has been the worst HD out there for years they have been doing things to the picture aspect and audio problems as well so I dont know

I forget what version it is, I just ordered the latest USB firmware they offered about 2 weeks ago, I believe it was the one they released in April/May 2009.

In order for my Kuro to accept and download the USB I need to unplug the tv, put in the USB, plug in the tv and turn it on. I won't do that till I get my new surge eliminator in a day or two. My Kuro is mounted on the wall so I only want to fiddle around in the back of it once and do it all in one shot.

The same way you check the hours on your 500M.

an update

I turned off the display using the main power button on the bottom (which I never do really) and waited for the red light to turn off (it took like 30 sec or more for the caps to drain and the light to go out) then I turned it back on and it was green like it should be and then I turned it off - it stayed red for about 5-10 seconds and then turned off

so I know for sure now that it was not something that was on for the whole life of the display because not only did it turn off like the other person said but it also doesent light up at all in the back of the display and when looking at it I notice that this is how it should look - no red glow in my dark basement when the display is off

I will report back if it happens again, and also I was having a problem with a "red something" or whatever it looked sorta like how a LCD can be red tinted blacks, it was sorta like that but not uniform over the screen, mostly in the bottom and bottom right - I am going to bed now and will see if this has gone away as well

I was just in a local media store on the hunt for another tv and my girlfriend flat out screams through the entire compartment. " They have a kuro''.. I couldn't believe it and went for a closer inspection. They have a PDP-LX5090 for the price of 1500 (which is 1900 Us Dollars). It's the very last one.I was almost handing over the cash but then i slightly hesitated because it was a floor model. It is supposed to be from 2008 but the guy could not tell me how many hours it has performed there. He said not so many but is there any way for me too find out? Through the service menu or something? I know i'm not buying an entirely new set but if it lasts me for a coupe of years untill the plasma game is spot on,I would definately buy it. What do you guys think? Isn't 1900 Dollars with 5 year full guarantee and speaker set of choice a steal? Help me out because i'm afraid someone will beat me to it..

This has been reported previously (check the last few pages of the Pioneer Non-Elite stickied thread for more information). Now it's got me a little paranoid.

I wouldn't worry too much about the hours, this baby will likely outlive the time until new technologies/resolutions come out that you want. Cheack it carefully for burn in in case they laft static image for too many hours, otherwise buy it, great set.

HELP NEEDED!

I am updating my Kuro with the USB firmware update. Someone on here told me to unplug my Kuro, put in the USB stick, plug the Kuro back in and turn on the tv and it will automatically start downloading...

Well I just did all that and I turned the tv on and it went into Standby Mode and the lights on the bottom left corner started flickering like a Christmas tree, the blue and red lights are flashing back and forth simultaneously as the 3rd orange light was on, now the 3rd orange light is off and the blue and red lights are still flickering off and on back and forth like crazy. What do I do? What's wrong?
Ok, everything is all fine now.
