That said, while the elite will look like any other LCD on the wrong setting (overblown whites, overly processed, digitized image, soap opera effect when motion "enhancements" are engaged, etc.), it will absolutely produce a jaw dropping picture on the right setting (either movie or thx movie) that it is comparable to a kuro.

I think there is a sweet spot in audio/video components where I feel no urgency or urge to buy anything else because what I have is good enough and satisfying. So I'm confident I won't be buying another TV unless necessary (i.e., broken/damaged beyond repair, stolen, etc.). I suppose another factor is that I view things audio/video as an interest rather than a hobby, so I'm less inclined to become driven to a negative (for me) degree in its pursuit.

As I remember, the buzzing was a phenomenon of the 60" sets primarily. That's unfortunate, because the 500s are great-looking, with black levels a bit better than even the 9G sets.

umr was here last night to calibrate (no charge ) our sub. It had a dead amp when he came last april.

When he finished, i ask him what he would do if his 151 died. He said that he would look for a second hand 151. For him the 151/111 models are the kuro sweet spot. Our kuro is the 6010 which does the same thing for me. I'd look for a 6010 or 151 if the worst happened.

Anyway, we both seemed to be in the same sweet spot with audio and video. There is a point where there is no urgency to mess with satisfaction just to have something new. Of course, if i ever need a replacement, i'll be looking for someone who "needs" to upgrade.
