Is there any reason why my screen turns pink when i change to RGB 16-235? Thats with TV. On the PS3 I have to change to RGB to get rid of it.

I get other colors like green when i try anything else. Automatic seems to work fine though.
That points to a color space mismatch (between the TV and the PS3)...
How do i fix it?
Set the color space to the same value on your PS3 and your display. Or set the PS3 to whatever you want and set the display to auto.
Any reason you want to use something other than RGB, Saprano? That is the ideal color space for the Kuro, if I'm not mistaken.

You're both right. The Kuro can accept whatever the PS3 sends it but the Kuro performs best when sent RGB.

Was trying different settings.

Anybody had these problems before?-

I don't undertand why green is showing up now. Aren't kuros with a green problem from 2008? Mine is from 2009. And wouldn't this show when i first got the set? Why the change now?

I can send two sorts of RGB - RGB 0-255 or RGB 16-235 - which one is the best for the Kuro? Thanks.

16-235
I use 16-235 also but what stinks is my cable box always reverts back to non RGB no matter how many times I go in there and set it to use RGB. So, I have to manually switch the TV to AUTO when using the cable box and RGB 16-235 when using anything else such as the XBOX or PS3. Anyone have any solution to this? My cable service is Comcast and the box is a Motorola DCX-3400.

Dump ComCrap and switch to a different provider. ComCrap still doesn't even use mpeg4 to my knowledge....

Just givin' you a hard time. I will check with my sadistic friend who enjoys calling Comcrap every few months to haggle the price down and see what he knows.

I do know he has mentioned that he has to turn his devices on in a certain order to prevent some stupid thing their boxes do from happening....

Ya I guess I could mess with that. I use a harmony remote so I could just tweak which devices come on first. The DVR box is never turned off however so it seems a little strange that it keeps changing.

Yea... leave the display set to AUTO. Set the output to RGB16-235 on the other devices and be done with it.

When you use your cable box, the display will operate in whatever mode the cable box outputs and it will then flip to RGB16-235 for your BD and game. You won't see a serious deficiency in the cable picture anyway - especially with Comcrap

Anybody have any green settings for 2009 kuros?

The green is really distracting. Don't know why it's showing up now. It also seems to get more green the longer the TV is on.

I thought i had a perfect kuro without any problems. Guess not.

Also, does anybody find going into the picture menu makes the set brighter? It changes color a little too. It's really weird. It. It does it every time. When i change AV selections using the tools menu it brings the brightness back to normal.

I wonder if going into service menu to check hours is causing these problems.

It would be too easy if that worked haha. I have a 500M and it is a known problem that the 500M cannot correctly do AUTO. Something with it is messed up. So, this is why I need to set my cable box to RGB. Every other device I use is set to RGB 16-235 but I am stuck with manually swapping the video mode when I switch between sources such as PS3 and cable box. I don't understand why the cable box switches when I am not even turning it off. Maybe my Harmony remote is sending some sort of signal to the box which triggers it to switch video modes even though the box is not turning off.

Maybe I will try posting something about this in the cable box forum as well.
Hey Mac, which Comcast box do you have?

I have the newer Pace RNG model and it outputs 16-235 to my 500M just fine.

Never heard of that model. Is that and HD DVR box? Mine is a Motorola DCX3400 HD DVR box. It will output 16-235 but when I turn the TV off or switch sources and come back to watch TV then it will switch back to non RGB sometimes. Do you switch sources etc?

Although this problem isn't limited to the KRP Kuros it's an example of why posting monitor questions here can be less helpful.

If you can't change the cable box (and it isn't defective) the set of options are enumerated in the KRP FAQ. In my case I have an older YCC box and a newer RGB-CE box. Neither is switchable. My current solution is an AVR with dual HDMI outputs. I still can't win because my AVR changes output colorspace to YCC when there's no input signal.

I spoke with my friend who has the same DVR in his bonus room. His DVR is run through a AV receiver and then to the display. He figured out that when there was two HDMI handshakes (the first one at the receiver and the second at the display) involved, the DVR would reset itself to default settings. This was causing his 4:3 setting in the DVR to change. For him, a "fix" was to turn the TV on first and then his receiver and when he was finished watching, he turned the receiver off and then the TV; this circumvented the handshake issue. He eventually put the TV and receiver on a power strip and just shuts both off with that.

It is possible your issue is related to this and if I were you, it would be all the more reason to switch content providers.

Ahh right, The Pace model is not DVR. It's Comcast's newest model and has a whole host of outputs, including firewire. I wish it had DVR--it's quite nice (and small).

If you have it switching through a receiver it could mess with it. My Marantz supposedly passes the HDMI signal through untouched, but hell if I can get the my Apple TV2 to work right with it. I was stuck at 720p 50hz (with nasty judder) until I just plugged it into the Kuro directly. Then 720p 60hz, problem solved.

I will try that out. I can just program my harmony remote differently.

This is the green patch i was talking about i see on my kuro-

http://www.**************.com/showth...n-The-ST-GT-VT

EDIT- I forgot we cant link that site but just go to HDJ and in the plasma section there's a thread called "Localised Green Patches On The ST/GT/VT?"

This is from the OP

http://amigos.amiga.hu/dudeeg/p50g20..._orig_1280.JPG

It's not as bad as his though. It's very very light and only on the left and right side. I have that also with a green tint on movies. It gets more green as the TV stays on.

These problems appeared 2 weeks ago.

Apologies if this has been asked before....searching did not turn up a related topic.

I use a PS3 as a primary blu-ray player in addition to occasional gaming....w/ the Harmony One, is there a way to set up an activity where it will change the Kuro's picture mode from "Movie" to "Gaming" automatically?

I obviously prefer the calibrated movie mode for everything other than gaming....the latter having perceptibly better input lag and necessary for timing-sensitive games (baseball quickly becomes frustrating when you're consistently late on mid-80's fastballs :-0 )

Thx.

I am sure there is but you will most likely get a better/quicker response by posting this in the Harmony One thread in the remotes forum.

Does no one know the problems im talking about???????........Sure seems like it.

The TV is un watchable sometimes. So much so that i think of buying another display!

Me? With anything but my kuro? Well thats how bad the green is. Tried to watch ghostbusters last night but the cast skin tone was too green. Then on a bright white color the green patches show up.

Have you tried lowering the green in the menu and maybe bumping up other colors to obtain a balanced picture? Perhaps a good calibrator may be able to help. There is also a thread with some settings which DNice posted.

I tried lowering the green low, it helps, but then red creaps in. I tried playing with the red and it just doesn't look right. balancing the colors is very difficult. You think you have a neutral picture, then compare it to something else and it looks bad. Watching some broadcast channels the colors are all over the place.

I tried Dnices's settings and it's still green. But those are for 2008 kuros.

And i still have the green patches to deal with.

Hire someone to get your display calibrated.
