Unfortunately it's my dads and he won't let me mess with it he hates when i mess with the settings...(it's all envy lol) but thank you.

I sent my 111 back to pioneer (prolly 3 years ago) due to a huge buzz issue I was proly one in a million (just my luck no bs) anyway I regret it big time. I have a serious question though
I have a chance to purchase a Pioneer 1540 2006 model with very little hours according to seller and it's for 850$. I'm a lil suspicious but even for a 720p model is it even worth it?

I also have a chance to purchase a 6020 for about 2K which is a little steep for me at this time

IMO, you be better off with a newer Panasonic, than that model.

Man I've been looking for weeks!!! Any pioneer is either to far for local pickup or it's incredibly expensive and risky to get shipped especially since it used and no warranty unless from a "demo authorized store" and those pioneers are demo models so you know they are no good. Idk does anyone know of any sponsors on here I can try or anything to get a safe secure purchase of a pioneer. These pannys and samsung have to many issues to justify the pros of these new plasmas

Unfortunately, the odds of someone finding a Kuro, with low hours, for a reasonable price, in their area, is almost as hard as finding a needle in a haystack.

2012 was a very good year for Samsung & Panasonic, and it looks as if 2013 might be even better.

Are the 2013's equal to the Kuro? Probably not, but pretty close from what I'm hearing.

And to be honest, I'm not sure it's even adviseable at this point to be seeking out a display that is 5+ years old.

Kuro is still king, but he's aging.

Let's say mine was for sale (I'm eying the 2013s). My extended warranty ends in a little less than a year and is transferable, but let's say by some unfortunate happenstance it fails irrecoverably? You won't get a duplicate replacement and will have to settle for one of the competitors.

Elite 151 for sale in my area with 4039 hours for $1495. Good deal?
If everything checks out I would jump on that deal!!! Considering its 5 years old now that’s fairly low usage.

Turns it out this guy has a cottage industry selling Kuros at all different prices. It's the same guy who was selling a 141 in Beverly Hills and then he tried to buy mine by low balling me and now is selling a 151 in Pasadena 40 miles away from BH. Suspicious behavior.

Actually more tempted by the UCLA college professor who has a 6020 with 2k hours fo $1600. At least he's verifable as part of the faculty at UCLA.

This guy is offering me this unit (I got him to go down a couple 100$) for 1610$ with shipping included plus covered insurance. The IO board was just replaced and so was the power supply he said nothing had happened to the TV he did it for future proof of TV. What do you think? Good deal? Not sure of hours though

Ok. Just wondering In case I want a calibration in the future.

Can you tell the difference between a MLL of .001 and the lower level you can get it down to? Is the depth increased with your new technique? To me my 151 is plenty dark and has a lot of depth. Would I notice a difference after your calibration?

I don't know if and/or when they will sell what they have. I do know they have panels on hand for warranty replacement. How many on hand? I don't know.

I don't know how sensitive you are to light and dynamic range. I can see a difference. Others cannot (VT50 is a good reference point for this). I will say every panel's owner I've done this for notices a difference. Where this reduction is really beneficial is making low APL scenes much more tolerable.

A question for D-Nice - do you always calibrate to a fixed gamma (2.22 or something similar) or have you tried BT.1886 (when the owner has access to a video processor that allows such manipulation) - just wondering what the Pro's think.
I have a European KRP-500M, and may be investing in a Lumagen Mini 3D in the near future, so I am hoping to give BT.1886 a go. I use ChromaPure to do my calibration, and Tom has added this functionality in a recent build.

Regards, Mike.

It is not advisable to buy any used display, sight-unseen.

Hi everyone,
Longtime lurker here-- this is an incredible forum with tremendous amounts of information. My sincere thanks to everyone who contributes to this thread, without which I probably would not have taken the time and effort to go pick up a PRO-101FD on Thursday. No idea how many hours of usage it has on it, but looked nice when the guy demo'd it. I bought it with his Elite VSX-23TXH receiver and two Def Tech 7006 towers.

I'm in Albuquerque, NM and looking for someone good to professionally calibrate the monitor. Does anyone here know / recommend anyone good in NM?

D-Nice, I emailed you earlier-- if you're thinking about coming through Albuquerque anytime soon, please let me know!

I just picked up a mint condition 101fd yesterday. Had to drive 2.5 hours to get it, but worth it as it's in excellent shape with low hours and got it for a really good price. I already have a krp 500m so I really didn't need it. Funny how this stuff happens.
Hey congratulations !...

Perhaps you don't need it - but it sure must be nice to have your pick of the two whenever you feel like it though !!! smile.gif

Couldn't think of anything nicer tbh with regard to plasma tech

Someone sold one of those bad boys (101FD) for only $800 in New Mexico. That would've been more like a 5-hour drive for me if I'd seen it soon enough, but the owner apparently just sold it to some lucky bugger (I wonder if they'll be posting here about their score wink.gif).
How does the 151fd compare in the pecking order of the 9G elites?

Thanks! If I didn't buy it, I think I might have regretted it. I will update once I get it set up.

That was me smile.gif . That guy sold me his PRO-101FD, his Pio Elite Receiver (VSX-23TXH), and two Def Tech tower speakers 7006, all for $1000, and he even helped me pack it all, load it all, drive with me to my place, and unload it all. I was kind of shocked... god I love New Mexico smile.gif v97, I posted maybe four posts before you looking for someone local to help calibrate this display. Turbe has been very helpful in putting me in touch with a few people that may be able to . Thanks everyone- this forum rocks. I'm looking forward to enjoying my new setup.

Wow that sounds like a hell of a deal! Give an update once you get it calibrated. I think you will love it!

Jawdroppingly astonishing deal when you add it all up, 00aas. I couldn't afford the round trip anyway. Congrats.

Hey Guys,

I have a little problem and was hoping to get some help. I have had my E-Lite 5020 (PRO-111 FD) in storage for about 6 months due to moving and renovations, and now after powering it up for the first time, my panel seems to be buzzing far more than before. I know that some panels have more buzz than others, but mine has always been fairly quiet and now it's quite loud. Any thoughts on why this would suddenly happen?

Anything I can do? I have a very nice power conditioner (APC S15) that has a grounding screw on the back of the unit that it recommends components be tied to prevent ground loops from creating a hum in the audio system if one is present (unlikely to be a problem, but I guess they put it there just in case) - would grounding the TV make any difference? Since that feature is more for resolving audio hum, I doubt it, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway. Thanks for any help...

EDIT: Apparently, ground loop is a common issue, and something I might want to address even if it's unrelated to this. Funny, every other surge protector I've owned in the past has made no mention of this...

I hope this is the correct thread for this post. Found this forum earlier tonight and five + hours have gone by very quickly.

Have a pioneer pro-111fd that is a little over four years old. This last week the set has had problems turning on. Through research I have unplugged the set pressed standby button for 10 seconds and wait until the next morning plug in the tv and press the on button. The set may turn on or the blue light comes on for 2-3 secs. and then click and the blue light blinks 8 times and then repeats 8 blinks. Also through research I have unplugged the x assy then separately unplugged the y assy board. Still 8 blinking lights.

Using D-Nice suggestion on this site, I will buy a y assy board and attempt to replace it myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. When I get lucky like for the super bowl the tv turns on with the same incredible picture and stayed on for 12 + hours until I turned it off. It has not come back on since.

Purchased a repair manual and it says something about doing a reset after replacing parts but no details. Any help.

Paid a repairman 200.00 (to many screws) who found no swollen capacitors but scratched his head more than I did. Have another repair quote at over 500.00 for labor and house visit and cannot afford the fee at this time.

Thank you in advance for any and all assistance!

I'm actually in the same boat but for a 6010 that I bought for $200. I got the 8 blinks and 12 blinks so I'm changing the main tuner board I bought for $50. Hopefully once replaced ill be able to join the kuro owner club for $250! If there is a reset procedure after I install the board I'd like to know.
