8G's running at stock black are probably still a fraction darker than the VT50's. Only behind this gen high end Panasonic's, 9G's and 9.5G Kuro's.

Processing on the 8G's is still exceptional btw even today - and (are) great displays. I would certainly have one (or Fujitsu) as a secondary panel to the KRP - and with any non direct ambient lighting the filters make these 8G's look extremely dark/black imo.

For an audiophile like myself, that speaks of its quality.

The sound is impressive on those sets. I have a 5020, and the sound system is also impressive. I don't even use a home theater system with my 5020. I only have a powered sub woofer attached to the tv and the sound is great. Pioneer not only made great tv's but the sound system they included is still the best.

Been getting the wall ready in the media room to hang the Pro-111FD, and I've had the speakers installed since day one. I was giving thought to removing them prior to the wall-mount, and I ran the idea by my wife. She said leave them on. They sound really good as an alternative to firing up the surround sound.

And she's right.

Yes you are right, for pure picture quality. But the price is the point. Even adding a couple hundred dollars to that budget and you're only looking at bottom model plasmas that the Kuro will beat. Once you start talking VT series you're almost doubling that price.

And that's just PQ/price. The build quality, ruggedness, and the top-notch speakers are all at a level that don't even exist today at any price point. Not to mention assembled in the USA.

If price is less of a concern and PQ is king, then yes, a 9.5G monitor is the way to go. smile.gif

I agree with most of those points, except 60" is now too small for me, and even finding a suitable used Kuro at this juncture is challenging without residency in a big city. :\

I thought they would have at least have some extra's leftover.

Wait for 84" 4K OLED. At the pace of display innovation, you shouldn't need a new panel afterward for about 4-5 years tip 8K comes to market. wink.gif

With a 65" ZT60 on hand, I think I'm good until that becomes a reality (another 5 years in and of itself, hopefully sooner wink.gif).

I checked 65 inch Penny but honestly it won't cut and justify from 60-65 from kuro to Penny.
IMHO it does not even match the glorious kuro
post #29590 of 30263
I was hard-pressed to see any difference between a calibrated 111FD (50") and the ZT60. Both were equally glorious. 2013 is the first year anyone can credibly make this claim. Wasn't about to go hunting for a used 60" Kuro in my relatively rural setting in any case.

Which kuro? I have the 500M and the ZT's pq was right up there. In lighted room it wasn't even close, ZT was better. IMHO......wink.gif

im just curious

Sorry to disappoint, but I didn't see specifically what he was doing other than entering things on his laptop which was connected to my TV. My knowledge of calibration technique is limited, hence the reason I hired an expert. wink.gif

He did use a remote to access the TV's service mode. It looked like he did some color tweaks there. Also, as I mentioned, he corrected the voltage settings that were incorrectly set at the factory. D-Nice explained there was a batch that was incorrectly set at the factory, mine included, that could eventually lead to the red tinted blacks issue. He said the issue usually starts showing up at about 5000hrs. Fortunately mine is only at about 3200hrs, so the fix should prevent the issue from happening on my TV.

Regarding the black level tweak, he was clear that it does not involve changing voltage settings as speculated on these forums; it involves a proprietary software tweak (D-Nice, please correct me if I misunderstood).

Whatever he did, my 151 looks fantastic. smile.gif

Enough with the Kuro vs ZT nonsense. Jesus. This is a KURO thread. Take that crap somewhere else.

Sigh.

Do you mind sharing the manufacture date of your 151?

I bought it in Sept 2008. I'm not sure of the manufacture date. For some reason May or June sticks out in my mind. If that info is located where I can see it without moving the TV I'd be happy to look and report back.

Its on the back of the tv on a small white label. The label also has the serial number.

Scratch what I said about May/June.....

I couldn't see anything on the back (too close to the wall), but I found a sticker from the box I stuck in the owners manual with a serial number and "MFD Sept 2008". So it appears it was manufactured the same month I took delivery (I did have to order it since the dealer didn't have it in stock).

Thats the label. Looks like dnice can get surprising results on a 60 inch 9th generation panel.

Where are you finding the kuros?

I remember it was said Robert at VE was suppose to get the rest of the unsold kuros from Pioneer to sell. I don't how true that is, but i can guess it wouldn't go through since Panasonic had TV's to sell.

I really want to know what Pioneer is going to do with the ones they have left. I would seriously buy a brand new kuro from them right now.

Saprano, the unused 101 is on ebay right now and located in NY. I believe the 'buy it now' is retail - understandable but if I was serious I would still offer him a little less. I helped my sister buy a used 111FD last Christmas in Southern VA.

Don't know, don't care, and can't see it, but I'll say this:

The 151 was sent from Pioneer to a dealer and then delivered to my home in April or May 2010 brand new, as a warranty replacement for a 150 that died in December 2009 and again in late January 2010. It warranty was over April or May 2012.

It still plays great!
