The service sometimes requires moving speakers, but my service also includes installation advice. Wall mounted speakers by their very nature have less flexibility and would require mounting before I arrive.

I'm curious, did you try the new Anthem ARC-1? It's the only room eq that I can live with. Totally different to my ears then Audyssey or TACT, and much better sounding.

But since my room is passively treated, I rarely use any room eq...

I have worked with the Anthem ARC-1 once and it was horrible.

I am very happy with my blacks. The uniformity of them got better over time and the blotches decreased. It really does seem like the Blacks got a little deeper after break-in.

When I first got my 151FD I kinda went into Panic mode when I saw the blacks. They did not seem to match the level of my previous 6020. Don't know why because the specs are the same for both.

Call me crazy, but when I am watching my 151, Sometimes I still feel like the 6020 was a hair darker. And sometimes I feel they are the same. Strange huh.

When I got my 6020, she was blacker than the depths of hell from the second I plugged her up.
But it seems like the 151 had to be broke in a little to reach those black levels.

But take into consideration that I am using no instrumentation to measure the blacks/MLL. Just my eye. Which as we all know, the human eye can be decieving. Which is why test partterns are used to calibrate instead of the human eye.

HDPEET, When you first got your 151 did you kinda feel like the blacks were a little different than the 6020 you had before hand? Just curious.

Is get that baby calibrated. Get on UMR's schedule......worth every penny.

10, 20, and 50 IRE are your problem right? It doesn't look like you have touched the CMS controls. PM me your settings so I can see where you are.

I had them saved on my laptop, since I just went ahead and implemented your updated settings when you posted them. I am looking for them, and will pm you when I find them. I will say that I did play around with the CMS, and I could never get the values right, so I basically would try to find a decent middle ground. Problem was, my end results leaned heavily torwards red.

In any event, I'll get them to you as soon as I find them.

Thanks D. I greatly appreciate it.

Also does Pioneer have any plans to put out a 65 or 70 inch plasma in 2009 !

the Pioneer Kuro plasmas have much deeper blacks and higher contrast ratios along with excellent processing that the pannys and sammys simply cannot match. and the Elite models add more settings that allow for the best overall picture quality on the market but you do pay an added price $$ for that pq with the Pioneers.

just speculation so far if pioneer will offer a bigger size like 65-70" for the 10G models which may not be out till ~jan 2010 since pioneer plans to have a long 18 month product cycle with the 9g. maybe they will give us a hint at CES Jan 2009 or could be later in 2009 before more solid info is out.

get that Pro151 from one of the avs forum sponsors and start enjoying it asap

Finally pulled the trigger on the 111FD (thanks Roman)!!! First of all, many thanks to all of you providing so much useful information on the Pioneer products.

I have been researching for a plasma for the past 2+ months. Initially have my eyes on the 42" Panny, since I have EPP. But after reading through so many posts, Panny was out of the question and I was torn between 5020FD and 111FD. I am 1mm away from buying the 5020, but oh well, since I can afford both, whatever!!!

I will use this TV mainly for blu-ray, gaming, and OTA HD. I bought a ps3 few days ago and I plan to use my Logitech 5.1 speakers as my sound system. I am planning to use the following cables:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

HDMI cable to connect my ps3 and the Kuro.
Optical Toslink cable to connect my ps3 and the Logitech speakers.

Am I getting the correct cables? I notice the optical cable has toslink to toslink, and toslink to mini-plug. What's the difference? Also, the HDMI cable has "in-wall installations", what does that mean?

Last but not least, can someone suggest a bias light for me? I heard that help ease eye strain and improve overall watching experience,

Sorry D-Nice, I can't wait any longer on your review because I really want to watch Olympics on the Kuro, instead of a 15 years old, 20" CRT TV, o_O. Hopefully I make the right decision on choosing the 111FD over the 5020FD. I guess time will tell,

Many thanks again,
-Andy

Those cables are fine. Toslink-to-toslink is the way to go for an optical connection. I've never heard of toslink-to-miniplug, which means toslink connector on one end and a miniplug connector on the other. I don't even know how that could work...

"In-wall installation" simply means that the cable meet code for running inside wall cavities. (Usually related to flammability, etc.) You can use it "outside-wall" as well.

Now all you need is an HD audio upgrade, and you're golden. HD sound here I come, I mean you come
post #3201 of 28860
I think I need some time to regroup after the 111FD, haha. By the way, what is HD audio? 5.1 = surround sound already, and there is something better? Sorry, I am very outdated on this stuff,
-Andy
Toslink mini plug looks like a 1/8" rca and is used on laptops' pcmcia sound cards (for optical out) or other applications where a smaller connector is required. Usually you can get one of these mini plug adaptors and plug a regular toslink optical in it...

A system that is capable is of supporting the HD audio codecs, ie HDMI. Toslinks do not have the bandwith to pass fully uncompressed audio.

Example, a receiver such as the Onkyo 606, Denon 2808, or Pioneer tsx91 etc. All these receivers have HDMI switching, and can decode Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD MA.

Ah, so I need to buy one of these receivers and have it connected between my ps3 and the speakers to decode the audio signals coming out of the ps3? That doesn't sound too expensive, maybe I can do that soon,

Hey guys do any of you know if the 151FD can pass surround audio to a receiver? Reason I ask is I'd rather have all my audio go the the TV and then be passed to a receiver thereby the wife wont have to fumble with multiple remotes to go from Cable to DVD and/or Xbox HD-DVD.

Just thought of something, people talk about the buzz coming from the Pioneers but I bet the farm it has nothing on my 360 and Cable box. I'm just waiting for one of them to hurry up and take off down that runway that they are obviously waiting for clearance to open up those jet engines they keep revving.

I can compare a 151 directly with a Panasonic 800U series. Three months ago I bought a Panasonic 46PZ800U to use in the bedroom. I also ordered a Pioneer 151 for my principal TV, replacing a 6-year-old CRT-based RPTV. The Panasonic 800U TVs have been very well reviewed (it's the current favorite at CNet) and looking at it over the last few months, it is an excellent set with very good color if you use the THX mode.

Last week my 151 finally came and after completing the break-in, I finally got a chance to watch it a little (using D-Nice's settings). Well, this TV is in a whole different league than the Panasonic. This is simply the best TV (of any kind), I have ever seen. The blacks are much blacker than the Panasonic could go and all the colors are just perfect. The picture, despite being much larger, also seems to be somehow clearer and sharper and more detailed than the Panasonic. The Panasonic is excellent but the Pioneer is excellent squared.

No, you cannot pass the surround audio through your TV. I don't think any TV does this. Get your wife a Harmony or some other good universal remote that can do all the right switching for you and you won't have to worry about this.

I have no idea what he was focusing on but apparently not the same distortion issue I showed him was there with Fios; just goes to show that you need to do all of your own research.

The DVD player I am using is the Oppo 983 outputing to 1080p. Again, no problems whatsoever here on playback that I can see. On the contrary, the 983 and the 111 are fantastic together.

I wonder at this point if what I am seeing intermittently with Fios HD channels is an artifact of how the Fios system delivers HD video signals. Curious, though, that the problem only comes up when picture size is set to Full or Dot-by-Dot. Any further thoughts here?

I too have seen that distortion on Fios (and only Fios, as far as I can tell, so I was confused when you said you saw it on other sources). So I assume it is something in Fios's delivery. I think it doesn't happen on 480i (if you set the 4:3 override) and if it does auto-sizing to get rid of sideboxing, then I think you wouldn't see it there, either.

It seems odd that the 141 omitted the USB port found on the 151. I see no reference to that in the 141 manual. In fact the entire Home Media Gallery is gone on the 141. Why omit something like that from the display that is supposedly your top-of-the-line product? You'd think you'd get additional features not less (yes I know about the additional picture adjustments).
