You've kind-of got it a little mixed up there Stew. You don't have to fulfill with sd. You can fulfill with BD. I'm wayy too tired to get into any more now, but if you explore more at dvdtalk, you'll get more help mapping the average cost per disc over there.
Those guys have it down to beyond science .
Fact of the matter is, buying BRs on sale a CH beats out the store prices all day long. ...and if you do it right, it'll be way cheaper than the stores .
Good luck and good night.

OK, lets say you have the get 6 now, buy 3 more deal (one of the better deals). Your 6 now are going to cost you about $10 (with shipping and tax added). The buy 3 more deal is going to cost you another $75 (@ $20 per movie + shipping and tax.). Now if you use BOGO every time, you'll get 3 more movies, but it'll still cost you $75. So, you'll have 9-12 SD movies for a total price of $85. How much are those SD movies worth if you trade them in somewhere? $3 - $5 apiece? You could turn in all those movies somewhere and get about $30 - $60 in credit. How many Blu Rays will that buy you? 2-3? So, you will have spent $85 to get 2-3 Blu Ray movies.

Even if you join in time to take advantage of the current BOGO on Blu Ray, most of them are $30 - $40 shipped. So even if you bought 8 movies now (and only paid for 4), it would cost you $120 - $160 for 8 movies. That's a pretty good deal at $15 - $20 per movie.

However, if you now calculate in the cost of joining, you will have spent a total of $205 - $250 and received 10 - 11 movies. That comes out to an average cost per Blu Ray of $21 - $25 per movie. Now, you might find free shipping codes and other deals along the way, but the point is that unless you WANT SD DVD's, it's not worth the cost of the hassle to join just for the BOGO sale on Blu Rays.

ummm, no. With the Bogo right now. the ones that you buy in the BOGO count towards fulfilling your membership. also it comes out to $16 shipped per movie if you buy say 6. that's $96 shipped for 6 movies and you only need to get 3 (the ones that you didn't get for free on the bogo) to fulfill your Blu ray member ship. You don't ever have to touch an SD movie. and no they are not 30-40 shipped per movie. $30 is on the high end for the bogo.

WTF?!

I just got mine @ the $27 price. I'm going to ask for a price adjustment. If not then I places another order with the better prices. I'll send the other one back. Damn it.

I usually tear into anything new I get right away. Luckily I had Rock Band 2 to distract me. If it wasn't for that I would be totally screwed.

Well, as I said, I'm pretty familiar with dvdtalk, although I haven't paid attention over there since I went blu. I didn't realize you coudl fulfill with Blu and even so, my numbers may be a bit off, but I think the point is still valid. Unless you happen to be able to fulfill with Blu and take advantage of BOGO on all orders, I don't think it's worth signing up just for this deal.

Assuming your membership details go through in time to take advantage of the current order. And when this conversation started we were unaware of the ability to sign up for just BD, so yes you would have to "touch" SD just to start the membership.

Just trying to save some guys the hassle of thinking they had found a great deal only to discover that their membership wasn't accessible until after the BD sale was over and then they were locked into a membership they might not want.

Why would you be screwed? Couldn't you just send the second one back with the first one's invoice?

Doesn't look like they have any Disney/BHVE movies at all. They seem to pretty much be Sony, Warners, and Paramount.

Well I called BVHE today, spoke with a Lana. She said they don't have the KB rebates in stock yet, but will ship me 2 when available. Didn't ask where I purchased from. Hopefully they'll honor it. Especially given BB, Fry's, and Barnes and Noble have all had them on sale for the same price or less I paid through Amazon.

As far as I know, they still have a pre-order price guarantee (you will get their lowest price). They just got rid of their post-purchase guarantee.

You are correct DavidJ, Amazon still has preorder price guarantee. The post-order is gone as of Sept. 1.

I think I will wait for the holiday sale. I think these blu ray are too expensive right now.

I have absolutely no need for nor intentions of buying anymore SD movies, so the CH deal is out for me. It's unfortunate they won't allow you to buy BR movies outright, but I guess they're not all that interested in increasing their customer base. As a business, limiting (also known as managing) your prospect base really limits your business. It's a very interesting business model, but it is their prerogative.

I was skimming through this part of the thread & read the section above. That coincided with the multiple times I've read before that you have to buy SD movies to get in on the BR deal, so this must be pretty new.

If so, then it's about time CH got a clue. Good business decision for them.

Edit: I just visited the CH website & received this message when trying to add 5 BR's to my cart: MEMBERS ONLY You'll have access to this title once you become a member.

Don't let it bother you; they don't seem to be able to answer their phone anyway. What a way to run a business.
So, I have to hunt down this secret code, get lucky & predict the next BOGO date & spend who knows how much time on the phone with them just to buy some Blu Ray movies? Yea, I don't think so. I'll keep price matching at Best Buy like I have been since the beginning & continue being a satisfied customer.

CH has their business model ass backwards, as I stated above. They think we're supposed to work to earn their business (we should feel privileged to do business with them). Newsflash, you actually have to earn our business. I'm not lifting a finger to jump through their ridiculous hoops to become a customer. They can come & shine my shoes for all I care.

Where have you been for the last 50+ years? CH's (and BMG's) business model has always been that of a "club" where you get a good front end deal, then commit to buy product to offset the intro deal, then get YMMV deals after that.
