NEW NEW Blu-ray Special Buys, Discounts, BOGO Thread - Page 89

Have ordered quite a few HD DVD's from inetvideo with no problems what so ever. Have not got any Blu rays yet but pretty soon. No problem recommending them, good prices and service.

5 orders from inet. Never a problem. In fact I got a couple of free discs due to their mistakes.

If you are nearby to an Edward McKay's Used Books store (locations in Raleigh, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Winston-Salem) be sure and check them out!

I'm killing the golden goose for myself perhaps, but I finally paid them a visit last weekend... and they not only have an extensive selection of used DVDs, but a nice shelf of Blu rays and a handful of HD DVDs as well.

I've picked up for myself Cars @ $15 (included the outer sleeve and had the Disney Rewards code still too!), Heroes Season 1 @ $50, and Godfather Restoration Set @ $45.

I have also seen (but did not buy because I already owned): Smallville Season 7 @ $35, Ultimate Matrix @ $60, Die Hard Collection @ $52, Ultimate Matrix HD DVD @ $35, Heroes HD DVD @ $35, and a bunch of other stuff that I didn't compare prices.

Best part is that I've traded in a bunch of my older DVDs that I either no longer wanted or have been upgrading to Blu, and I actually haven't shelled out any cash yet for the stuff I've bought.

YMMV on the trade credit, but they have good deals on used stuff.. and all the Blus I've seen are scratch free and in nice-condition cases still and they do provide 7-day return guarantees so if you play 'em quickly and had a problem you can return.

I've made a couple of trips this week and each time saw some things gone (the good stuff goes quickly) and other new good stuff back in place. Example.. 2 days ago Ultimate Matrix Gone today, but I got Godfather and left Smallville sitting on the shelf.

Like I said, might be increasing competition for myself... but check these guys out.

OH, one last good bit for a non-national store chain... Trade credit is good at any store, so you can trade at your local one and then take a road trip and use the credit at another location if they have something you want.

I have ordered several times from INV. Mostly buying HD-DVDs and a few DVDs. Several of my HD-DVDs did have the bi-lingual cover art, which I don't really have an issue with. Initially, I did have an issue with the fact that they do not inform their customers ahead of time that the products could have bi-lingual cover art, but that time has passed and I'm over it. The alternative cover art just has a few words in French in small letting next to the English words. Not bad at all IMO.

With that said, I just placed another order with them that I received today. For the first time, I ordered some Blu-ray movies from them (6 of 'em) along with a few HD-DVDs. None of them had the bi-lingual art on them.

I went to Best Buy got a price match for 11.95 on Terminator 2 and then used the 10 dollars off blu ray coupon. In total I paid 2.14 for this blu ray!

Why are you bothered by that?

I've made a number of purchases from them, all without incident, as have hundreds of other AVS Forum members. No reason to be suspicious.

I'm not suspicious. Just irritated. I don't like the idea of paying a CDN company in USD (particularly with our dollar going down the drain).

I believe they are based in Canada, but have businesses operating out of Canada and New York. I would imagine that purchases made through the .com website, rather than the .ca website, would generatate funds for the USA. At the very least, they'd have to pay taxes to the USA for operating their business in NY.

Just a quick heads up that the previous Amazon B2G1 has expired, but was replaced by a new set of titles (mostly Sony now): Amazon Buy Two Get One Free - supposedly to run through November 6th.
That "sale" actually makes me mad. I have never seen so many titles priced $5-$10 above their normal price in my life.

It helps to keep a close eye on Amazon disc pricing. Ordered "The Holiday" yesterday from Amazon for $17.95. During this sale, it's up to $24.95. Might save a buck or two with these prices, but it's no bargain, and you have to find three discs you want as well.
I went back and picked up a bunch of titles that I held off on.....I think the days of the BOGOs are over by now as most can see and imo, getting decent releases for around $15-$18 is already a good deal. Anything under that is just icing on the cake with the pricing as is today. And also imo, it's not unreasonable to pay full amazon prices for new releases if it's truly a good discs spec wise and movie wise....much better than when dvds or laserdics first took off.

Haha nice.

I picked up the original Halloween for $5 and Pans for $10 with the BB coupons.

I agree that $15-$18 is a good deal for a decent title. Just a bit frustrated that they play with prices so much for sales. It's all marketing, I guess.
Yes, I think under $18 is a good deal too on new titles.
I also don't like how Amazon adjusts prices before a sale, but if you think about it, Amazon's price is a "sale price". Most stores put things on sale for a weekend and then raise the prices back up until the next sale. It stinks to see them raise the prices so drastically, but it is still better than MSRP
post #2658 of 14871
I think the mistake that Amazon is making is that many of us in the past have assumed that Amazon had the best price on just about everything.

Now that we know that they play around with prices (jack them up before putting item on sale), it'll cause us to check prices more carefully against their competitors.
It still works out to a good deal "per movie" even when they jack the price.

The usual $14.95 movies are raised to $16.95, but $16.95 x 2 you pay for= $33.90 /3 you get = $11.30 a movie.

It's the same as getting 2 at $14.95 and paying 4 bucks for the 3rd, or if they lowered it to $11.30 a movie but forced you to buy 3.

Sorry for the obvious math I'm justifying it to myself too, it would be better if they left the prices but I guess they found some price point they didn't want to go under.
Nomad817,

Know what you're saying.

I think their pricing would work better if they included movies from all studios at the same time rather than limiting it to just 1. That way, you can be pretty sure that you'll find 3 that you really wanted.

I too think the days of the good BOGO's are over so I took full advantage of the awesome Best Buy $10 coupon. After price matching first then using the coupon, I picked up 9 Blu-ray's and only paid around $10 apiece for them. Maybe closer to Christmas Amazon will have a good BOGO or something.

The pricematch+coupon thing worked for me once--I managed to get From Russia With Love for 12.99 (steelbook, too!) last weekend. But when I went back in yesterday to get Baraka, they would only do a pricematch or the coupon. Guess it's a moot point now that the coupon is dead, but it does show that sometimes you get an over-riding manager who will pay attention to the small print on the coupons....

Yeah, no kidding. Though I did end up using the coupon to get LA Confidential for 15 bucks. Not a great deal, but not horrible either.

When I was 9, I cheated a kid out of a cool GI Joe.

Looking back, I'm not particularly proud of it.

Hmmm, the USD has not been going down the drain, the CAD has. The CAD was worth $.78 USD last week So it's really no deal for Canadians!
